Title: Why Bitcoin is a computer game
Post by: HCLivess on December 08, 2015, 12:43:53 PM
A few days ago I realized that game design is incredibly similar to Bitcoin design, at least in my implementation.

Insert number (hash calculation), if the number matches the game algorithm (hit under difficulty threshold), you are rewarded with some points in the global ledger, or scoreboard (btc)

Interesting to see that. Maybe we are in a videogame :P That just look real only to get more points is to collect bitcoins (money).
When you die you just wake up and is the real you :O

better comparison is game product keygens..
generate a key, if it matches a valid games product key, you get a free game :D

Bitcoin could be some sort of a 'MMO game' if you see it that way, where everyone team up and mine together to earn rewards in bitcoins. If you think about it the other way, this could be a game idea inspired by bitcoins. If a game like that really appears, and the rewards are given out in bitcoins, I suppose it would be nice! It's like bitcoin 'game-ified', making mining some sort of game. :D

yeah and in fact there altcoin that have implemented a game inside it like the old good huntercoin, sadly it was a bot fest at the end so it did not worked well

but i've always see it as a game on pure numbers, maybe in one of the sidechain we could repliacate a real game where you can earn bitcoin by playing, it's my little dream

Computer games are based on reality. I mean programming is based on reality, so of course...
Now Bitcoin is based on programming as well. And it's based on reality more then anything else. That's why it may look similar to computer games. But bitcoin is not based on computer games and it's even less a computer game.

Comparing bitcoin and video games is just bizarre.

May be in some terms mining bitcoin  can be similar to get points and reward when you passed the level like solving bitcoin algorithm. But there will be no negative point when you don't solve.

Well is similar to Bitcoin design, because people made the game and people have found bitcoin.
Also is just a game here in real life you earn real money with bitcoin.

However the metaphor given is pretty interesting comparison. However bitcoin is grown way bigger than the initial "game" so by now the resemblance may be difficult to find.

I like to view the development of bitcoin to be in comparison with the development of companies and games and whatnot. The initial product almost always stays the same, however the bells and whistles added over time give it a extra polished look. Let's not forget that bitcoin is not developed by a single entity, but as a community project.

That's good if you compare it with the features of a game where it all depends upon the probability of you to be able to win among all the ones competing for one genesis block to get the rewards...
It ain't a game actually, it is a very innovatively programmed protocol which runs on a technology called blockchain which is a chain of transactions that help run this protocol in a smooth manner...

yeah and in fact there altcoin that have implemented a game inside it like the old good huntercoin, sadly it was a bot fest at the end so it did not worked well

but i've always see it as a game on pure numbers, maybe in one of the sidechain we could repliacate a real game where you can earn bitcoin by playing, it's my little dream

I remember other blockchain based games like Motocoin, which I think nowadays is probably pretty abandoned as well. But the game industry has just begun with Bitcoin, the Battlecoin game is a great idea and nicely implemented within the Bitcoin blockchain. I think we will see more and more stuff like this in the near future.

Yes, that was a first thought when I saw this thread, a Motocoin! :) This was a neat idea. I am sure as well that programmers and enthusiasts are just started and that we will see many different implementations of blockchains and video games.

Why to you have given a name with only letters and with any number? Why all us are humans? Why have born you and not another with other combination of genes taken always from your mother and your father? Why was invented computer? Why I have a laptop? Why exist the actual numbers and the letters and not other ones? Why To grow up and to live every human must eat food and must drink water? Why was created the water? Why the life become from the water? Why someone like one thing and an other another one? Why for different people the being beautiful is not the same? Why Some people like bitcoin and some others not?

Ask to the above question and I will answer to your question...  ;)

I would rather see all this effort put into the actual Bitcoin blockchain and not in other altcoins. If Motocoin was implemented in the Bitcoin blockchain im sure it would be a success and a lot of people would be playing it right now, the problem is when you want to have your own altcoin, and most people don't care about altcoins.

That's a good point you have made but don't forget that is hard to get into a Bitcoin blockchain. You first have to prove that you deserve a place in the blockchain and sometimes that's the easiest to prove in an altcoin.

Make a successful feature in the altcoin that people will use and I am sure Bitcoin devs will implement it in no time.

Complete proof that we live in a computer game. The universe is the Random Number Generator. It generates the server hash, and our choices in life are our client hash.

I wonder who's playing our game... 5th dimensional beings?

I don't see it like an computer game. With Bitcoin I earn some money and games cost me money.

Games can also earn you money.. You can play tournaments or play card games against players such as poker to earn money.
Nice comparison made by OT though, you have a good point there! :)
