Lots of people still mine and trade arts.  There's quick money to be made from them if done right.

Most Altcoins nowadays are shitcoins. They are just blatant pump & dump schemes that the owner profits from.

Do not invest in them.

Sooner or later all those crapcoins and maybe BTC will be banned from the authorities.

Id actually like it if they got rid of all the Altcoins. I already bag hold too many.  Long live the one true coin.

Altcoins are speculative tool for the most part. Created by people who wants to profit from them and nothing more. Creating an altcoin is not expensive and can be achieved for less than a $50.
That is a reason we have so many similar coins in our crypto ecosystem which are not worth anything. If you are not professional trader of altcoin your best choice is to ignore that market.

Yes. I am interested in altcoins. And even I am investing in one of those. The reason is very simple and don't want to much to be understood. I am investing because I believe that this altcoin might have good future. If it will be so I will have very good profit and even more. May have enough even to make other important investments. But is an investment considered with high risk. So have nothing sure on it. Only the hope and some signs that give hopes about a future possible success.

You're saying that "shitty" sites will get banned from the authorities too?

I believe it's important to distinguish between various altcoins. Just forking a tech won't help. There is a couple of altcoins that are built entirely from scratch, which helps the whole market somewhat diversify. Do not follow copycats; they're created for quick profit and have nothing to stand the time.

Most currencies in top 20 on coinmarketcap represent different technology platform (with some notable exceptions of course). So for me it's more about platform/tech competition. If the altcoin shows some real dev, consider it. But still be aware that the majority altcoin markets can actually be manipulated.

Altcoins are kins of neat, some of them.  I happen to like DOGE.  The problem is that there's no economic use for them other than trading for the most part. The list of things you can buy with DOGE would fit on an index card.  Viva la bitcoin!

Altcoins are definitely interesting. While most are scams, there is some real development behind some of the projects witch have and will in the future, benefit the cryptospace.

Altcoins can have very fast transaction time. They can have less value, if compared with BTC - that means you can send small value with acceptable transfer cost or even without any transfer cost  ;)

I've invested in Monero because it has good fungibility (protocol level mixing). It's code base is distinct from most of the other alts which are based largely on Bitcoin.

There is still a lot to be discovered with altcoins. Many new things can still be done with altcoins. The future is very bright.

I'm still interested in Altcoins because they are interesting to hold as a short term investment. Many people live off alt coin day trading as well. It's good to get involved with the altcoin community.

Some altcoins provide things bitcoin does not. For example monero provides anonymity and privacy, while bitcoin is not anonymous (http://www.bitcoinisnotanonymous.com/). Its like tutanota to gmail.

It will take time for the World to transition to digital currency; but it will happen.

As society evolves, the people will no longer settle for centrally controlled fiat. Thus, many of the altcoins today will become the money of the future. I think that serious investors are placing their bets on which of these currencies will survive, and ultimately thrive, in this approaching paradigm shift.

seems like the trend now is for electrum wallets. you can tell how "serious" the coin is by how quick it gets an electrum wallet.

Some altcoins provides different function to bitcoin. Dash has Master nodes to do the mixing, to provide anonymity. Monero has built in protocol to do mixing.

Yes I am interested, but not maybe as much as in close past, but still follow most interesting ones and have investments on some of them and actually use some coins like NXT in their asset exchange.

Why? Firstly because Bitcoin cant do all things what some other coins can do. Second for a change and third (partial joke) because bitcoins are expensive and there is limited amount of them.

Altcoin is easy to mine. Some times you can solo mine an altcoin. But there are too many scams, you have to choose the right coin.

Yes I still have a big interest in altcoins. Lot's of interesting technology being built.
There is also big opportunity for making huge profits, as long as you can see through the scams.

Considering Bitcoin literally just did a soft fork a day or two ago to implement CheckLockTimeVerify, which happens to be a technology from an altcoin, I think it's safe to say that yes, people are still interested in altcoins.

The technology in altcon is developed fast than that in bitcoin. Bitcoin can borrow from the altcoin. It can learn from other coins.

The trading is difficult for most people, as they do not have the skills. Mining is also difficult for most of us.

When the people of this planet wake up to the Ponzi scheme that's been perpetrated upon them by the central banks for decades, they won't want US Dollars, Euros, or Yen. The people will demand digital currencies like Bitcoin and Goldcoin.

The chances that Bitcoin and its offshoots (altcoins) disappears and becomes worthless is zero. As you learn more about decentralized currencies, you will come to understand why this is true. You are in the right place, at the right time.

The people of this community are intelligent, ready, and able, to become the pioneers in the liberation of mankind.

You said "trade or mine as long as you do it the right way". But for most people, they cannot do it in the right way. They are just scammed.
