Title: [WTB] Casascius 2011 Series 2
Post by: NRF on December 10, 2015, 12:48:43 AM
I have been watching here for a while but I have not seen one come up.

Does anyone know of one for sale?  I know they are the rarest of the 1 BTC coins but surely they are not all hoarded yet.

eBay has one for just over $850 or a bit over 2BTC

Also the sellers history seems legit...all positive and another coin sold in October 2015

Do you mind telling me how much they went for/how long ago?  Even if you can't say exactly can you ballpark it for me?

I also notice you talking about PGP chains, I take it they wont apply to these because they are pre-2013 when he started doing PGP sigs.

Part of my problem is I have no idea how much to offer/pay.

I have sold several of them over the years. The last couple I sold were MS-65 and went for 2.65 and 2.75. For some reason they always go for less than the Series 1 even though they are much rarer.

Fun fact: I did a search on my feedback for the word Casascius (seeing if there is a link) and it has 69 mentions of Casascius...lol.

I believe I bought and resold both for between 2 and 3 BTC. Would have been within the last year, year and a half tops. If you obsessively pore over my post history you might find it.

Same with my posts...probably here somewhere. I agree with nubbins though on prices between 2BTC-3BTC. Good luck on your hunt to locate one!

The one on eBay is a good deal tbh..

The eBay prices are becoming more realistic as the price of bitcoin increases. An $850 price makes more sense when the BTC price is at $415 than when it was at $250...but you're still paying the same fiat if you need to buy bitcoin first before making the transaction.

I agree with others that BTC2-3 is fair. You'll often find good deals on the 2011 series 2s because many people still prefer the series 1 error coins, even though the series 2 coins are significantly more rare.

Watch out for bogus sellers, I've had thousands of $$ tied up in eBay for WEEKS because of Casascius coins. I've had many more bad experiences than good selling and buying these things on eBay.

I have bought and sold on eBay with no issue.  That said, I will never buy or sell (regardless of price) to anyone without significant feedback that is 100% positive.  I swore it off because of the 13% take that eBay/paypal charge (combined).  This forum is a much better and safer place to buy (if you use escrow).

My biggest success on eBay was luring a buyer here to complete a deal  ;D

Last deal I'm aware of is from summer 2015 @ 2.6 BTC for an MS65. More lucrative than the silvers at that price.

Are you looking for a raw or graded one?  I have one of each if you are interested.

That is a steal at that price, someone got a great deal.  I cannot wrap my head around why these sell at such a relatively low premium given their rarity.

Either at the right price, how much do you want for them?

V2 sticker, 2011 coin, loaded 2012

I think it was sent in late 2011 by mike, probably stuck at customs, and finally loaded when the reseller confirmed is arrival. I think all the coins in this shipping order match those criterias (I think mike has loaded the roll in one shot), and know a lot of coins from this roll have been used for educational purpose and where scratched and touched by a lot of fingers.
(brrrr poor coins)

Thoses coins have a fucking good history  :)

Mike once wrote to me that he would never ship "unloaded" coins for fear of having "loose" unloaded coins in the wild if the recipient did not confirm good reception.
He said also that he was loading the coins only a short time before they mere ready to ship.

I believe the 2011 coins were shipped until the spring of 2012. At that time, the supply dried up and he started shipping 2012 coins.
However, for the reason stated above, the last 2011 coins were loaded at the time of their shipments i.e early 2012.
