Hey guys, i was wondering how you guys got into bitcoin. Furthermore, who was the first person you saw using bitcoin, and was it them who got you hooked? Personally, my first experience with a fellow bitcoiner was when I was walking through the mall and a boy was busking for bitcoin xD

I know of no one else in my circle of real-people contacts who uses bitcoin.  None of my friends, family, or coworkers use it.  All the people I interact with who use cryptocurrency are right here on this forum.

That tells me btc has a lot of growth potential. 8)

Most likely someone on youtube, while I was looking up on bitcoin. I've never seen anyone use bitcoin in real life though. Couple of my friends are interested in this however, one even bough a fraction of a coin.

I remember I wanted to top up ninja saga and someone advise me to find dollars from PTC and after that I saw the ad bitcoin and feel attracted to bitcoin  ;) :D

I have never seen people using bitcoin around me locally but i have some friends better to say online friends who are also into online earning field. They have suggested me to take a look at bitcoin and its technology back on 2013. But i was not much interested at that time like today.

I was the first person to actually begin using Bitcoin that I know IRL. I heard of it a while ago a little more than a year before the price rise in 2013. At that time I didn't even think about GPU mining, although I probably should have. I mostly did stuff with faucets. However I did introduce Bitcoin to many of my friends. One of them actually uses Bitcoin very often for a lot of stuff. He is the only person I know IRL that actually uses Bitcoin.

I am the first person I saw using bitcoin ;D ;D ;D I am trying to introduce it to my friends and housemates beginning on creating a wallet and faucets. It's up for them to be more curious about it.  I learned everything about I know now about bitcoins on my own, they can do it also if they have interest.

I saw some senior members of emoneyspace forum talking about bitcoin in 2012 or 2011 end. They were talking about like a replacement of Paypal or Payza (then alertpay). They are the first people I did see with the awareness of bitcoin. In my friends circle I was the first one to receive a bitcoin payment.

i got introdued to bitcoin through other social betting site, where  a friend introdued me about bitcoins and its worth, but he was also knowing less and earned little from faucets after that one friend from same site, told me about this site and about signature payment how we can earn big, and now i am in this forum, i have told about bitcoin to my friends but they were not interested.

Some of comments here made me laugh. In reality i didn't met anyone that use bitcoin, what is mkre weird from all the people just 2 or 3 heard about it somewhere. Like I already said somewhere here on forum : I found about all this accidentally, and I still wonder how I didn't saw it before.
Past is past, now I'm hooked and I'm working for my first bitcoin.

I first so bitcoin when I was still writing articles in a website... at first, it was weird to see people transacting in bitcoin, then I then asked them what it is, then they told me it is bitcoin... so i searched it in google and found it and found faucets that pay in bitcoin and also other sites that pay in bitcoin... there  I start my journey until i found bitcointalk..  :)

Same as me really, but I have introduced all my closest friends to them and now they're just as addicted to bitcoin as myself.

The first person that i saw using bitcoin is my working mate, he is the one that introduce me about bitcoin

he told me that bitcoin can be widely use for any transaction,

and he is the one that teach me how to earn bitcoin, up until now he is still actively help me to earn big big bitcoin

For me it was one of my room mate who was using this forum and when I enquired about what this forum is all about then he explained me about Bitcoin and how it will become the future currency.

I started back on the GPU mining days wherein was still profitable to mine with them. No one was the reason behind me being hooked to the bitcoin world. I was searching the internet of ways of earning online and it came up as search result and from then, I used it and couldn't be any happier.

honestly,i am the first person who using bitcoin on my college (maybe) and on my family, never seen other people using bitcoin,maybe if i go to another town or country,i will see them.

I found out about bitcoins reading an online article about the matter and got me interested. I have no relatives or friends using it though.

My friends started using them. They say that they buy stuff with it at a discounted price online.

That's how i started using bitcoins.

I'm mostly on a webmasters forum before 2014 and there are some threads there that I saw discussions about bitcoin and how they use it to accept fees. I didn't mind it as first but when they mentioned its value was  $1K+ I was surprise. Later I've joined a bitcoin forum not this one yet and so I learned more and move here in bitcointalk.org :)

NO one in real life that I've met someone really uses BTC except my brother because I taught him.

My answer will be a little funny. I was introduced to bitcoin by.... myself. I have all my experience with bitcoin related only to my activity with it. I had the first contact with it through an (totally) anonymous website which offered high profits if you collaborate with that and in which to create an account was enough to give only your email. No name, no surname, no absolutely other kind of data. You entered your email and then your account was created (showing you the username and your password). Within the site was a proposal (fantastic if reading it) and for the realization of which needed funds. They asked donations and in return gave a founder position in their future built business. They accepted only bitcoin as a donation. Here we are. I was attracted by that I have read in their website (within my account) and decided to become founder. Their give some rows about bitcoin and where it were possible to find other news and places to buy it. All the remain time from this February-March three years ago until today is a continuous increasing relation (in learning and using it) between me and this precious invention named bitcoin.

I got to know about bitcoin by myself while i was surfing over the net and came across frebitco.in and then moved to PD and else .
even now there are very very less people known to bitcoin near by my place and now i am the one to refer them to use it.
So I myself was the first person to see using bitcoins.

basically it was hostfat(italian moderator here on bitcointalk), that created another thread about it in another forum, at first i ignored it because i thought it was the usual waste of time, and the website was a bit shady at that time(bitcoin.org) or it look not so legit

then i investigated again two years later(damn me) and i discovered this whole new world

My first encounter with it was on hackforums. People would talk about it and offer services for Bitcoin. I also won a contest there and got my first $100 in BTC.

The first person I see using bitcoin is hackers . they accepted bitcoin as payment for their services

I think the first time I saw something about Bitcoin, was when I was searching for a new graphic card for a gaming computer. I found a Youtube video like this,

money, grabbed my attention and I got into it. Many years later, and I am still doing Bitcoin, without the solo mining. I also spoke to a guy at a party, and he learned me a lot

about mining and using Bitcoin.  ;D

No offence, but these seems like a very fake story. Who would be busking for Bitcoin? Isn't it smarter to just busk for fiat and then buy Bitcoin with that, people could at least give you some change then.

First person that ever showwed me or used BTC in front of me was an old friend actually and he was explaining to me that there were darknets and that you could spend these imaginary "Bitcoins" on this place that was basically drug ebay and that it was real. I laughed at him of course and thought he was a nut.. BTC was around $3 at that time.. In hindsight I should have bought some and just held them.. Oh well.. Hindsight is a bitch in BTC for sure.

It sounds like most people on here were the first to use btc before any other in their circle. Hopefully that changes in the near future as btc get a further reach. I cant remember specifically where i first saw it but it was online somewhere.

Some of my friends were really interested in Bitcoin and they somehow persuaded me to invest in Bitcoin. After that, I got really hooked. They were also the people that told me about this forum.

I wasn't. My friends where the people that told me about Bitcoin. I didn't tell them. Thanks for reminding me that I am not special.

The first time i encountered bitcoin was from internet at that time still saw nobody using bitcoin as payment

but one of my cousin that come home from abroad introduced me to this bitcoin, he said how he earn money from bitcoin and how he exchange bitcoin to his currency

so i know bitcoin thanks to my abroad cousin

Well in 2010 I'm 90% sure that I earned some amount of BTC (I was searching for free items and found one site.. not sure which one) and I've brought some items in facebook games.. then I have searched for it again and couldnt find them.

Well, the first person that I ever saw earning(not using) Bitcoin is my school friend. But I never see a person using Bitcoin in real life, instead myself is the first person that I ever saw using Bitcoin to buy something.

I didn't say only one person but i saw a whole community and i found it here in forum, the first was the faucet if it counts.

Some friends of me recommended Bitcoin to me because you could mine them very "easily" and sell them for fiat. There was nothing easy here as I figured out what mining is all about. After that they showed me how to purchase a Bitcoin, and after that I had 1 whole Bitcoin  :)

I was in line at Ocean Beach Deli in San Francisco buying one of the best Ruben sandwiches I've ever had with Bitcoin when a guy in front of me paid with Bitcoin. I was blown away. That's the first other person I've ever seen use Bitcoin to make a purchase. 

Well, I heard about it first from someone, it was actually a couple of months later when I started to do some research about bitcoin myself.
That's when I got hooked on it.

In my case it's more the other way around. I was the first one around my friends and buddies using it.And I hooked a few of them over the time.
I myself found out about Bitcoin in a tech online magazine around 2012 the first time but completely ignored it.
In 2013 things got more interesting for me and stepped deeper ans deeper into the rabbit hole.

I have yet to meet another user at random. I think that'll be a rather lengthy wait. I have paid a guy for some computer repairs with btc but that's cheating because we'd both already outed ourselves. No secret handshakes were exchanged.

Was in my friends house, i didn't know that he was involved with this, then i start to ask him trying to have more information about it.

After few days, i cant stop myself on searching info related to bitcoin... ;)

i think it was a talk show where a geek was talking and explaining some basic things about about bitcoin. i knew bitcoin before that, but i was purely seeing it as an investment. due to that geek i went a bit further and started seeing bitcoin as being more than just an investment.

Well my brother have used altcoins, but not bitcoins. So I was just searching for information about altcoins and I found bitcoin so I tried.
So it was me by my self that I was using it.

the first person i saw using bitcoin was my neighbor
he told me all about bitcoin, until in the end we did gamble together

I found Bitcoins by myself and searching I first found it on YouTube and then further purchased 1 btc to play around it nobody really introduced me to btc.

In real life I have seen no one using Bitcoin. On the internet, I think the first use of Bitcoin I ever saw was in a forum where some guy was selling a steam key for a game in exchange of Bitcoin (not this forum, some other forum about games), and I completely ignored it back then, I had no idea what it was.

I have never seen people around me using bitcoin , perhaps I'm the first person that's using bitcoin , and I also teach my family about bitcoin .

I spoke to an acquaintance on the local YMCA steps and he was at least aware of BTC. I was glad. Now I have a new fellow in town who traded

something with me and we both mine coins. Nice to know at least of 2 people in town aware and one mining this shizz.

Me neither.
I hear that some coffeeshops accept it, but i never went there to see it in real life.
Online many of my friends already paid me with bitcoin.

When I sold my old iPad the buyer asked me if he could pay with bitcoin.
And yes he came to my house paid for this iPad with bitcoin.

It's a strange feeling though, I remember checking my balance every hour because I was afraid he was scamming or something...

My friend used to make a lot when it comes to the trading of the bitcoins. he however was so reluctant in sharing the information. He thought that it is a business that will one day come to and end and thus did not want to have any blames on him. he has been a good friend to me and has also been acting as my mentor when it comes to bitcoins. I did not really believe that i can make a lot of money from this whole thing of bitcoin until he showed me the way.

Myself :D never see person who using bitcoin before me, and I teach to my friend who interested to making money online to use bitcoin then he's the next person after me who I see use bitcoin xD

I first learned about bitcoin in 2013, and it is still relatively new, because bitcoin was found in 2009, I think I was the first person in my town who use bitcoin, therefore I never saw anyone else using bitcoin before me.

My first use of Bitcoin was receiving some from someone I do not know from Zero Hedge well over a year ago (when they were following the price spike up).  It was a tiny donation, but enough to get me started.

My first time spending BTC was when I bought a tiny amount of gold with it.

Other than that, NO ONE whom I personally know has ever used it.

I as of now don't know the first person I saw using BTC. I'm thinking it was somebody from YouTube.

i know bitcoin for th first time when i am in college,my friends give me article about bitcoin,but they never try to looking for bitcoin,and not believe that bitcoin can traded with money,so i am the first person who use bitcoin in my town (maybe) because i never see another people use bitcoin,but as long i use bitcoin,i know some people in my town also use bitcoin,but i never be friends wih they all.

The first person using bitcoin was probably at an online earning forum, offering users to register at their new exchange and giving users 0.01 BTC to try the site out and send/receive different payment methods "0.01 BTC was worth few cents at the time".

One of my colleagues in High school around a year ago, was talking about a virtual currency and how to use it and it's advantages, did not follow the details at the time and just got back to bitcoins.

Friends. And at that time i didn't understand anything they are talking about..
Block, Bitcoin , hashrate. But i have understand one thing this is going to be good! 8)
