Title: Mining Software for 7970
Post by: Mir on December 03, 2012, 05:56:55 PM
I was using GUIMiner.......... but it gives me problems........
I wanted to switch some other but better software.
I am trying CGIMiner; but I can't get to mine at GOOD Speed
However I like the options they are very nice.........
I am getting 450 MH/s
My command line is as follow
cgminer -o http://us2.eclipsemc.com:8337 -u mir96ta_gull  -p XXXX --temp-overheat 80
 --gpu-fan 30-50,65 --auto-fan --auto-gpu --gpu-engine 950-1150 --gpu-memclock 150
Cat is 12.10
Any recomendition
CGMiner is 2.96
OS Win7 64 Bit Pro
If there is another bettter software; I am happy to try it
With GUIMiner I get 700MH/s speed with these extra flags -w256  -f18

I'm on Windows7x64 with CGMiner 2.9.5 as well. I have a single 7970. I use 12.8. I upgraded to 12.10, but my games didn't like it, so I downgraded to 12.8. I still use the included ocl runtime from 12.10, however, so results should be similar.

I get 630MH/s at 1050/410. I tried messing around with kernels/worksize/vectors, but the defaults really are the best. I also had to increase my mem clocks a little bit, as if they went too low, performance started suffering.

I use MSI AB to manage my OC settings. I have it undervolted to 1075mV, run it at 1050MHz, and the memory at 410. CGMiner can't clock the memory more than 150MHz lower than your core, while MSI AB uses unofficial overclocking methods, and can.

TL;DR - Use MSI AB to manage our overclock, not CGMiner, and don't underclock your RAM as much.

What does your power consumption look like @ 700 MH/s?

Ah I forgot what the usage was. I have an excel sheet with that information, but I'm at work now. IIRC, I was upwards of 350W for the system at stock voltage and OC'd to 700MH/s. Lowering mem speeds, undervolting and lowering my OC to 1050, and swapping out my PSU for a 80PlusGold dropped my usage down to less than 250W.

dynamically GPU Clock and FAN

--gpu-memdiff -150
works well with cgminer if you're happy to not try to underclock memory more than 150 lower than your engine speed, and it's what I've been using for my 7970s for the last year.

BitMinter client should run well on 7970 - give it a try :) bitminter.com
