Title: Need help setting up miner
Post by: BanaanDMS on December 15, 2015, 07:33:35 PM
Hello
I am going to begin mining bitcoins.
I made a Blockchain account and downloaded GUIMiner.
But it asks for an user name and password.
Where do i get it.
And also what pool is recommended for beginners.

You should do a bit of reading before that.

Try here: https://www.bitcoinmining.com/

If you are going to mine on your computer just forget it, it doesn't worth it.

What type of hardware are you going to be mining with?  With just cpu and or video card or did you actually buy a u3 or a larger asic miner?

GUIMiner is too old, he will need CGMiner or BFGMiner. There's nothing he can do with GUIMiner. He did not mention any ASIC, so i'm guessing he is trying to mine with his PC' which is pretty much impossible to do nowadays, which is why up to date miners don't even support it.

GUIMiner can used for scrypt mining with GPU's.  But most of time you will lose money running it.  And you sure won't pay for the cards them self.

But you are right on BTC mining you need asic.  Even scrypt mining has been taken over by asics.  It is only certain algo's that remain GPU only and none are profitable in my mind.

Take a time and look here in the Bitcointalk. There is Mining section where you can find answers for questions how and with which equipment start mining. Just stay away of cloud mining it's not fun and you will be in lost.

Most of the GUIMiner stuff will be in altcoin section.  There is a lot of old stuff for it as it really is not something many do at this point.  And the ones who do tend to be able to use command line at this point.

But take a look at altcoin section if you really want GUIMiner for some reason.  I would suggest instead getting some USB stick miner and learn mining with it, you wont make money but good learning.

for asic and bitcoin mining you need an s7 and then you can just join antpool

for altcoin, you need to check the current section for the pool, for the miner you either go with nvidia spv modified version of ccminer or wolfo modified version of sgminer, they are the best
