What year will Bitcoin reach $100,000? Most people have less than 10 Bitcoins and this could be life changing, compared to it reaching $10,000.

I feel like bitcoin can hit $10,000 by 2016 and $100,000 by 2017.

What I do know is that it'll be an interesting ride!

I chose $10.000 to $50.000 max because time range is too short for that.

I think you may need to increase the range. Id say more liek 2030-2040 all going well.

You should have included 2030+ as one of the options. Thats what most people would have chosen. The price is steadily rising and it will continue on this trend.

While bitcoin is innovating, banks are not standing still. They are studying the blockchain and looking it closely. Towards development bitcoin has quite a big step to make to.
Look at the outdated wallet interface etc.

Is unlikely to happen in the near future,I think that the states and the banks will not allow BTC to become so valuable.Unless they can find a way to take a good part of your BTC in the form of taxes.

"Feeling" that the price will rise is nice and cool  ... but unless it's based on charts and real reasons it's useless .
I took the "$10,000 to $50,000 MAX" because I think that's the max Bitcoin can go to , at least for our life time . Still it's just an opinion and can be changed by time because I never seen halving impact on price before so who knows we may be able to reach that price and more  ...

When Bitcoin takes off it wont stop at $10k it will rocket way above $100k, when that is i dont know maybe in the 2020-2040 range.

I voted for never. I think the price will surely go over $10,000 at some point in the future, but nothing close to the $100,000 mark. Of course I hope I am wrong, but it's just my realistic view on the moment.

Ore if only 5% of the 7 trillion market cap from gold moves into Bitcoin as a store of value, Bitcoin's market cap wil increase to a nice 70x. That makes 1 coin $31k.

Bitcoin can be used in so many markets, do not underestimate Bitcoin potential, it is enormous.

I think only 1k by end of 2016 or just near the reard halving that is on first 6 month of the next year. I don't see reason for it to go that high within 1-2 year.

$40,000 coins are only double Facebook market cap and Bitcoin is a far more significant invention.  $10,000 coins is a really conservative estimate.  I think it it will break the old ATH in 2016 and after that the sky is the limit.

It's nice what you are saying, only the reality is very different. I don't underestimate Bitcoin. I believe in its future, but more in a realistic way. There is no point in dreaming about something that might never happen.

The probability is very low for $100,000 to be hit bitcoin price in next decade.

I wish it could happen but honestly I don't think it will. But 10k is certainly possible in the next years if everything goes well. With Bitcoin one never knows though, there's of course an outside chance, after all, $450-460 seems like a lot of money if think about it from a different perspective.

i think bitcoin will simply fail or be one of the main currencies in the world. if it does indeed become one of the main currencies, then even $100K might be considered low. it will be far after 2030.

I am thinking around 2025-2030? That would be a reasonable price after all block halvings.

I also think it won't ever happen, but mainly due to the p&d speculations which will doom Bitcoin in the long run. Bitcoin is too much about 'going to the moon tomorrow' philosophy, to reach a long-term success. I believe it will be simply substituted by another cryptocurrency in not too distant future, that will be more resistant to such huge volatility and what is more important, it will be distributed to the market that will have 10+ years of experience with cryptocurrencies by then.

they said never about reaching 1k, in early 2010 or so, but two years later it reached it, so, never say never

i guess a good theory is that for every halving you can add a new zero, so if we begin from $100(this is arbitrary) with he 25 coins per block, the 12.5 coins per block will bring 1k and the 2020 halving 10k, so 2024, should be our year for 100k

That timescale sounds fairly sensible to me. 100k/coin (as a STABLE price, not just a panic-peak, I mean technically some idiot already bought the price to 3200EUR on btce last year and rightly nobody counts that ;D) should be supported by a much more mature infrastructure and genuine use cases for the coin, which will take time because it involves real people making real changes in their habits and in many cases, careers.

For this to happen we need to change as bitcoin users, more people would have to adapt to it, there needs to be more demand for bitcoin in order for this to happen.
I honestly think that it will take at least 10+ years to even get to $10.000 which is not even half of 100k.

I've check it and it will be 20 march 2043 @ 4.01 PM with a margin of 23 minutes. I can be wrong, most with this kind of things I never are.
My island purchase is planned for 20 march 20.43 @ 4.02, so yeah a lot of it depends on it.

I think the bitcoin price will hit $100,000 in 15-20 years if the current rate of adoption is maintained and bitcoin is still there then.

The ones saying never don't get the fact that Bitcoin will be the new BRKA, it will be the most valued "stock" in human history, but they fail to have a long term vision and mix pessimism with realism, and the reality of things is a 100K per BTC is very possible of governments keep making people fear for the money they have on their banks.

We need big institutional investors to jump in Bitcoin with their billions in order to come even close to $10,000-$20,000. These investors won't bring their money to the current exchanges as they do not trust them for a good reason. All current exchanges aren't capable of handling incomming billions.

That is a big dream to hit 100.000 dollars I think if that happen we just need a lot of people that use bitcoin.
Also the stores need to use bitcoins to otherwise people won't use bitcoin daily. I lwish we had hit 100.000 dollars al ready, because I am not that patients. When that happens lets say 25 years than I think is worth it.

Glad to see so many optimistic if that is what you call it. In my humble opinion we will never reach $100,000 I have my doubts if we will ever reach even $10,000 and definitely not in 2016. So my answer is never.

i believe that it is nearly impossible for such price to come because in my opinion we will have to wait a few decades to reach at least one thousand dollars per bitcoin though lets hope that bitcoin halving that will happen next year will make some huge impact on bitcoin

Nowadays bitcoin is mining 32,500 everyday after this 16000 bitcoin will mine. As per this calculation Bitcoin reach 100000$ in the year of 2068. That time only one bitcoin for a day. So automatically demand will increase on market.Who are all holding the bitcoin will the billionaire that time.

It would make no sense. Suppose it would go this high, investors would see it as monoply money instead of a real currency.
Let's wait and see how bitcoin develops and the market will find a realistic value.

i think it is the sum that is impossible to reach before year 2020 by that time the people from various countries should have more knowledge about bitcoins what would mean that the price would have potential to grow and it could possibly reach such big prices as 100000 per bitcoin

The price will double every two years, that depends on the actual adoption of the coin.

I don't think that we  could reach $100,000 even in 20 years well, we never know, If that comes in long time, most probably, I won't see that anymore, haha...and most of us will never benefit from it..  :D

Even if such rise occurs even after 10 or 20 years it would be could. But I don't think this could happen. From my calculation it would reach the maximum of 5000$ not more than that. 5000$ itself is high, takes long years to reach. So no hope for 100000$

It is possible that the bitcoin price reaches $100,000 if the banks start to adopt it but I doubt that will not happen.

I don't think bitcoin will reach $100.000 within our generation.
Maybe 2 or 3 generations after us. All bitcoin needs is time to grow and for people to adapt to it.
Demand has to be larger than supply, since bitcoin is limited it will take a very long time to get to that point.

I personally don't think we'll ever see the price reach $100,000 per coin. It means we will see the price increase 27000% from the price level today. Let's see first if we can get to $1000 and after that we'll talk about $10,000 and after that we'll talk about $100,000.

Let's hope we hit 10,000$ by 2020 :P

You are right. We are think about $100,000 but first we need to rise back to $400 again before talking about the next thing.

Honestly, I can't even see bitcoin sustaining a price of $5000 a piece because people's mentality is to sell when the price reached 4 digits. How would it even reached a higher value when people are eager to sell when the price reaches $1000?

I think that once this halving drama is out of the way, and the scailability issue is solved, it could easily go 10X from here and gain much more adoption from then on because everyone will once again have faith in BTC.

The halving will be coming soon and the market has to find a way to handle it and it might be the major event this year.

I dont get the logic here, if bitcoin can 50k then why not a 100k.  to me it just dosnt make sense.  also the banks my not be siting still but it still dosnt mean they will ever release a decentralised currency,  if they ever release blockchain type money in will be highly centralised.

What are the foundations of your 'calculations'. $5000 per coin feels like a long way away but in the great scheme of things it still means Bitcoin is effectively a sideshow in global finance terms.  

I believe it'll either never get anywhere near that high or sail right past it to go far higher.

If there is no actual demand or need for Bitcoin it will never reach a price that high, gold is scarce and precious and it's even needed for manufacturing things and it never reached those crazy figures. The only thing that can push a value like this if it becomes adopted by the mainstream and it's used for digital goods, etc everyday. That's pure math right there, only 21 million (much less than that available of course) with a strong demand equals instant high value.

I'll just say 2025.

Interesting question. As other said earlier in this thread there are basically two possibilities:

1: somewhere in the coming years, Bitcoin really picks up momentum among the public, gets adopted by many large organizations, and gains a significant foothold in the financial world. Value absolutely explodes to several hundred thousands of USD and those possessing amounts even as small as 0,1 BTC, find themselves suddenly a lot richer. In this scenario, those involved in Bitcoin nowadays are still the early adopters.

2: during the coming years, it appears Bitcoin fails to break through. Value gradually declines (but never goes to $0) and crypto slumbers on in some sort of online Limbo. Trading continues -although reduced-, but a large influence in the financial worlds is impossible.

The question is: what direction will BTC take ... ?

I have voted for never. I can't avoid but being a pessimistic (a well-informed economist  ;D) Of course I will be very happy when the price reaches such high value, but I am mentally prepared for a wide range of potential scenarios, including the disappearance of bitcoin.

I think it will never hit the 100000 dollar, its unrealistic in my opinion the bitcoin is unpredictable and its not possible. It will take many years for it, more than 20 years, its the question if the bitcoin than still exists.

I don't think we can even hit $10000. At $1000, most will go to altcoins as a cheaper alternative plus there will be a lot of Sell orders once it hits a thousand bucks.

Its just like a currency that we use in our day to day life. Its not a commodity or property that goes high when there is demand. So any time its not gonna reach the value $100000 which has been predicted by only few speculators.

True, Bitcoin is very difficult to predict. But I think he's going to get 100,000 disagree.
I think up to 10,000. But then again you never know what can happen with Bitcoins.

the $10,000 price level looks like it is a million miles away at this point, let alone $100,000. but i find the $10,000 to be somewhat of a realistic price target after 10-15 years. bitcoin will either go up to insanely high price levels, or it will end up being nearly worthless. i definitely think the first scenario will be reality at some point in the future.

Bitcoin will go up to $100.000 the moment USD loses most of its value due to United States insolvency, loss of the petro dollar, socio-economic unrest, or the effects of "quantitative easing". Although this could happen, but it rather unlikely in the near future.

I guess it will not be until this year, it was too far from the target bitcoin, bitcoin is currently not pass the price of $ 500. but I think this year will reach the highest price of $ 1000, probably by the end of 2016  :)

Since in 2020 is the halving period i expect that bitcoin will rise a year after 2020 and 100k it's really a high amount.

2021 is just 5 years away from now. I don't think we'll even see the price touch $5000 within 5 years, let alone $50,000 as that is simply not a realistic price to happen in a matter of some years.

It is indeed a digital currency. When there is demand for something regardless of what that is, there will be a price increase. How much depends how much demand there is, that is the only time it can break 1000k+. 100K will never happen.

I think it will never hit the amount of 100k its too much for the bitcoin, I think the bitcoin will rise to a high amount but not such a high amount. I think its also unpredictable, so we have to see what the future will bring us.

We must admit 400$ for one bitcoin is very good price.

There was people thinking Btc would never reach $1,$5, $10 then $50, $100, $200 $500, $1000. My point obviously surprises can and will happen. Personally i dont think it will reach 100k because my financial luck has never been great so i cant see a simple investment of a few k turning me in to a millionaire.If it does reach it like a few others have said times would be very bad for the economy and the $ would be pretty much worthless. im happy where it is now to be honest.

Perhaps a relevant question is - what would a $100,000 price actually mean? Then you might get a clearer idea of the year.

For starters it would surely have to mean that every conceivable issue that Bitcoin currently has - actually understanding what it is, its benefits, distribution, security, acceptance, legality, use of resources, centralisation, governance - is solved to the satisfaction of a huge chunk of the global population.

That's a lot of stuff to clear up in anything approaching a short space of time.

For the kind of surprise you need great money investment! Couple times more money than we have today invested..Maybe for a few years, but i doubt we will ever see glorious 10k$ or more?!

The majority of the new incomming money is being invested in Bitcoin related startups and not in the currency that Bitcoin is. If all this money is being put together and with the effort of some well respected investors we can have it listed somewhere on an exchange as the NASDAQ for example. That would make it possible to come even close to such a price. Otherwise it's simply impossible.

I agree: it can. But it's far from likely. If it does go up this much this fast, it will collapse again. So question is: at what value will you sell if it goes up fast day after day? $800? $1500? $10000? Do you cash in, risking to lose a chance to sell at a much higher price, or do you wait, risking to miss your chance when the price drops again?

Total agreed. I think if the price rises too high, it will crash sooner or later. if th eprice is $1000, and $2000 in 2017, there will not be big crash.

Bitcoin will not rise in a nice and smooth way... there will be massive buy-up phases like we saw before. It only takes a couple of billions coming from whales that are looking for alternative ways to store their wealth to drive the price to 5 figures, and 6 figures is definitely possible when the trend is set (more and more whales follow up the whales that did it first, and therefore the new gold is born). Everyday people like us that smart-up and seek for alternative way to store money will also get in massive way, specially in the post-cash physical cash society we are headed towards.

if you look at the charts from 2011 till now, you will see that there have been plenty of peaks and sharp dumps. but if you only look at the starting price from 2011 till todays price, then you can see how the bitcoin price has grown throughout the years. this is what matters for long term holders. peaks and dumps are good for frequent traders.

Yeah, still a long way to go, it won't reach there overnight, it still needs time to be more popular and more powerful and it will done if we find adoption from the people across the globe.

Adoption, cooperation within a community.. really a lot has to happen.

thats a huge number, 100 000$, and that will take time, lots of time, so 2030 not earlier, unless magic for bitcoin will happen and it's price will rise faster than now

Price is always unpredictable.

You seen how easily price can be manipulated esp with exchanges, so its possible in that sense.

I think that we will go to 100 000$ and end of 2035 year only, don't even think that it go to 10000$ at emd of 2016 or 2017 because it won't happen,  even halvinf won't change price so much
