Title: MtGox private key sweep function
Post by: Blazr on December 05, 2012, 09:21:44 PM
I notice that MtGox have a private key import function on their website.

My question is, if I import a private key and a few weeks later I receive a payment to the key's address, will MtGox deposit that transaction into my account as well?

Is there any limit on private keys I can import into my MtGox account?

Yes, MtGox will sweep all funds out of that address and into your account balance.

Don't believe there is a limit.

How long is the wait ? I can see the transaction already has 8 confirmation on bc.i while still not showing up in my MtGox account.

There's a handful of complaints on the forum, and another handful on IRC reporting transfers are not getting credited.

You can open a ticket on their support so they don't forget about you, but it being a holiday (Wednesday) in Japan it could be a bit.

Those are mutually exclusive statements.   Does it exist and is sitting at 0/unconfirmed, or does it not exist (i.e., not visible on Blockchain.info, for example) at all?

17:52.22 ( kakobrekla ) private key sweeping works?
17:54.56 ( @MagicalTux ) it works
17:55.31 ( kakobrekla ) these should be sweeped already afaik; https://blockchain.info/address/1...
17:59.30 ( kakobrekla ) does this take longer now?
17:59.41 ( kakobrekla ) it used to be instant
18:02.26 ( @MagicalTux ) it should still be, that's weird
18:02.28 ( @MagicalTux ) I'll need to run checks
18:02.47 ( @MagicalTux ) must have been some changes with the new version of bitcoin
18:04.19 ( @MagicalTux ) we have a project that will solve that, I guess I'll have to push it sooner than expected
18:04.59 ( kakobrekla ) any eta on when these get credited?
18:05.57 ( @MagicalTux ) I guess we have created the txs, but it's stuck in the transfer queue because bitcoind randomly refuses connections
18:06.26 ( @MagicalTux ) http://data.mtgox.com/api/0/bitcoin_tx.php <- if anyone can help broadcasting these while we switch to the new system, it'll probably help a lot
18:08.00 ( SomeoneWeird ) that's a shitload of txs lol
18:10.07 ( @MagicalTux ) SomeoneWeird: I guess I should disable the "Misbehaving" system in our local bitcoind - not like anybody can connect to it from outside

Don't trust a exchange which detains Bitcoinica users' money and refuse to give it back. The liquidator which was appointed by the High Court of New zealand are considering taking legal action against this exchange.

I once used MtGox import private key function and after long delays, it eventually worked and kept on working which was unexpected.

I will never again use any exchange for this kind of stuff, eventually, when things get serious, one must install Armory go through its steep learning curve, wait for up to 30 minute sync after doing a full Bitcoin-qt multi hour long sync and then import your private keys.

It's a bit sad, but running Armory on top of Bitcoin-qt is really the only way to have full control over your own security and keys.  Sad because those are clear tools for advance users with a lot of patience and there is still no good, easy to use and secure wallet for the masses except bc.info chrome extension, but when you end up with non propagating tx or other quirks and you need to "rescue" your coins w/o waiting for bc.i to reboot,

Armory is the only place to go.
