...
Q On your website you have compiled a list of the newspapers which have put up paywalls. How do you feel about them?

I’m against them, but not because of paying. Every paywall is an identification wall and that I will not go along with. I don’t do e-commerce. I wouldn’t mind paying if I could pay anonymously – maybe Bitcoin is a solution – but I won’t buy things in a way that identifies me, like with a credit card. I don’t mind paying for a paper copy of a magazine but I’ll pay with cash. However on the internet there’s no way to pay with cash.

Given Stallman's political views he's one of the last people I'd expect to be interested in the monetary freedom Bitcoin represents.

Monetary freedom is an apolitical issue.

It is like a basic human right, to be able to conduct your financial interactions as you choose, as much as freedom of movement, to seek happiness, etc. It should have been enshrined in founding laws as such, so that the bastards in the banks and political power structures would have been criminally liable when they took it away while noone was watching.

Bitcoin does not represent monetary freedom.

Regardless, Stallman is a Green, and would support greater freedom anyways.

Satoshi intended bitcoin to be used for monetary freedom. But bitcoinr doesn't give a damn about your monetary freedom.

"Bitcoin might be a solution."

Two seconds later, "There is no way to pay with cash on the internet."

I guess cash only means state paper to him still.

He needs an analogy he can relate to. Maybe the fact that Bitcoin is an open-source currency.

Oh no... please don't.

GNU actually had most of the operating system ready, and it was just Satoshi that came along and added the final piece they needed for digital currency in the GNU operating system.

We could give him 'censorship resistant money' though.

Umm, here's a metaphor, bitcoin is cash. And a simile, bitcoin is like cash.

This community certainly needs more things to argue pointlessly about, and whether it should be called Bitcoin or GNU/Bitcoin is a perfect fit.

Wasn't RMS posting on this forum somehow? Anyway, I guess he sees bitcoin as cash on the internet. Don't understand what problem you see in the way he put it.
