Without internet no Bitcoin that sounds not like it could be bigger then the internet.

I'm not sure how you can even compare both , it's like comparing Bitcoin to Facebook or something like that .
If we have to compare Bitcoin then we have to compare it with Payment methods or fiat for example and not with the internet , beside .. without an internet connection Bitcoin wouldn't even exist so .. I just don't get it .

Theoretically bitcoin can survive without internet.

Well without Internet no Bitcoin! So I wouldn't say that Bitcoin is bigger than Internet.But it is definitely bigger than email!!
Bitcoin is maybe the last missing piece of the internet.Now we are able to send monetary value around the globe instantly at any time we want without a third party.This is really huge and ground-breaking.
However there is still a lot of work to do and we never ever should underestimate the big opponents who want to keep their influence and power. R3 Blockchain consortium and Co. could become a serious threat within the next years!Just because the internet in the 90s was the clear winner doesn't mean it will happen again automaticly.These guys aren't dumb!!They are dangerous!

bitcoin is still not a bigger thing than the internet though it most definitely has the potential to grow a lot and to attract more people to its community i believe it means that possibly it will be much bigger than the internet

what worry me is that a new "satoshi" could potentially change the world again by releasing another groundbreaking technology, that can outclass everything

Like the others said, bitcoin is never bigger than the internet, because it depends on it. The internet is still bigger. Bitcoin (actually I think you mean the blockchain, though) is merely a stone in the pyramid that is internet. It may be compared to the email though. And yes, It's at least as big as the email.

I think he is talking about sending bitcoin transaction via radio wave like out there some project and test are going on to do so. But we have to accept that without internet the origin of bitcoin wouldn't be possible.

Not neccesarily. A direct comparison cannot be made, but you can still compare the level on which it revolutionizes the world.

It is the same as how the car or airplane changed the world in how much closer everything has become.

That gave me a chuckle, your right but.  still i see where your going with this one, the bitcoin network can theoretically survive of the internet, but it would be pretty much unusable and once it connected again there would be some big losers as certain versions of the blockchain would disappear over night depending on who found the first block. (their version becomes thee version)

You are right, but Bitcoin is a developing technology, whereas Internet is developed, and being used as a mediate source of transporting data and information from one place to another in a matter of seconds, Bitcoins does the same but it works like torrents, so Bitcoins can't actually be compared with Internet...

At this point nothing is bigger than the internet. Even Bitcoin isn't and probably never will be. Internet is the main thing to get Bitcoin to work. Without it Bitcoin is nothing.

I am sorry but Bitcoin is not larger than the internet.  Bitcoin is large, however if you go to a mall or store randomly, you will get 7 -8 out of 10 people who will ask you what Bitcoin is and what they do with it.  I think I would be safe in saying that anyone under the age of 60 knows what the internet is.  Nice thought process, but a mute point.

I'd be happy to know how. Maybe you meant it can be in pause-mode, but don't be destroyed ? Because if there is no internet there is no transactions, and thus Bitcoin is dead. Not "really" dead, but in a kind of hibernation. Maybe that's what you wanted to say ?

If you are trying to say that when one has BTC in his wallet, then you are right at one point...
But when it comes to moving Bitcoins and network, then Bitcoins are completely dependent on the Internet, and mark my words, Bitcoins are dependent on the internet and Internet ain't dependent on Bitcoins...

It's almost never I meet anyone who has even heard of bitcoin, let alone has any idea what it is or capable of (offline)
I have also never seen anywhere that accepts bitcoin, in UK
and UK is not some backwater

there are of course some places that accept in London, physical places, but not many

the potential of Bitcoin and growth and blockchain uses is phenomenal, but all things considered it further strengthens my belief we are still virtually at the start, and considering how huge the price is, ok a third of previous ath, but potential rise in value, one small part of things, but is quite enormous

People used to think many things wrong, maybe we're thinking the same thing now saying that bitcoin is going to be larger thing than bitcoin,
but it's not only bitcoin that matters. There's btc's blockchain, that can also be used for many services. One day service on top of bitcoin could
be greater than bitcoin itself, but it wouldn't cancel out bitcoin value, infact it would furthermore increase it.

Hopefully it evolves the same way the Internet evolved, it starts to become massively adopted, maybe not by common people but in companies and stores, banks, credit cards, etc. For me the niche was always fast and small digital transactions to avoid entering credit card numbers or register in different sites, you just recharge that with fiat for apps, games, digital goods, whatever you like and off you go.

However most people don't seem to mind having to enter credit card numbers or give personal details and register on every site on the planet just to make a purchase.

Well I hope bitcoin one day makes us as rich as early dotcom millionaires. I'm very bullish but as a mid 2014 adopter I need bitcoin to become a lot more mainstream to do me any huge things.

You're still going to need internet to access your bitcoin and to make transactions and such. So no, in this case bitcoin is not bigger than the internet.
