Title: Making better use of FPGAs
Post by: Keninishna on December 10, 2012, 06:49:50 AM
Since asics are going to devalue the use of FPGAs for mining, is there a better way to put my FPGAs to use to make money? Or should I just sell them off on ebay?

FPGAs exist, ASICs - still no. May be they'll arive next year or may be never - who knows...

I don't think ASICs are a big scam anymore and are going to come out before I get an ROI on my fpgas. I just want to explore other ideas to capitalize on the flexibility of fpgas.

Having asic delivered in the near [....] future, i dont think that you could get a good price on those.
I am pretty curious though as to how much an fpga unit would sold now.

I'm close to ROI on my FPGAs, but the only use for them I can imagine is another crypto currency which uses a stronger/modular hashing algorithm. It would make perfect sense to implement that and fix other flaws of bitcoin in the process, agreed it won't be usable until SHA-256 is broken...
