Not sure where the_poet got the data but Coinmarketcap confirms 15million exactly at the moment. Happy 15millionth-coin Birthday!

Only 6 Million Bitcoins left!  :o Are we at 15,000,000 bitcoins already? Time flies, doesn't it? I'm looking forward to see what the future will hold and hope you will join me along for the ride.

Great milestone! There are just 6 million coins left to be mined. I made a screenshot so I have it on my device  ;D

stats based on
210000 blocks producing 50 coins = 10.5mill
then
180000 blocks producing 25 coins = 4.5mill

so block height 39000 must be 15mill winner (but does not take into account any historical protocol or mining bugs or human loss of bitcoin)

The sheer amount of coins arriving every day is an oft forgotten thing. I wonder how the BTC landscape will look when it's a trickle rather than a torrent.

15M of which 3M probably locked forever, then from those 12M you have another 5M-10M in "hold mode"

the real available coins to be bought are a tiny drop compared to the total supply

Amazing, I had no idea we were at those numbers already. And I agree with the rest, many of those are lost, locked or just not for sale hehe, so imagine what can happen in the next upcoming years...

I'm not sure if so many coins are in hodl mode, but let's assume this is the case.
Imagine how the price could shoot up with the next wave of users or insititutional money flooding in?! :o

but i agree that the amount of free flowing, regularly swapped coins is low.. after all btc china only moves 100,000 coins a day which is probably 20,000 real deposit coins moved 5 times (day trading)
bitfinex only moving 20,000 coins a day, probably 4000 in real deposit terms

so i think there is far less than 1mill coins hoarded on exchanges for regular use

kool sh*t! fun fact: theres nearly enough btc in the wild now to have 1 btc for each person in Buenos Aires, Argentina  (2014 pop = 15,024,000)

In the (near?) future we'll get accustomed to subunits like mBTC: 1 Bitcoin will become too big to handle in everyday transactions.

I like numbers of bitcoin, definitely the best out of any cryptocurrency. I often forgot that we already have so many bitcoins mined.
Especially when you imagine that bitcoin could still possibly be mined in 22th century.

average 3600 btc a day
(25btc * 6 times an hour * 24 hours)

Wow,,,,,,, when you put it like that it really hits home, and them 6 million are spread out over the next 100 years or so.  The future looks strong with this one........  ;D

I believe 15M is, by chance, a sort of milestone, since the remaining 6M are going to be much harder to mine.

Next major milestone is obviously the upcoming reward halving by the end of June...

Which means I am currently owing 1/1000,000 part of Bitcoin. Great, round number. Only 6 million more to go!

Oh yes. Look into the history books and early traders had carts with 1-2 ton lumps of gold hauled by several hundred slaves so they could buy a nice lunch out on the road.

I hadn't been paying attention to the number of coins mined until I read this thread. I'm shocked there are now 15 million mined. That many mined coins dilutes Satoshi's stash. Not so long ago he had 10% of all mined coins, but now it's less than 10%, and slowly heading towards 5%.

20M is, the hardest part is the last 1M, it will take many decades until the fee era

after 2024-2028, there is already no point, in looking at the halving

Woohoo! Another great milestone for Bitcoin! Next will be the halfing in 2016. I hope these all make it on the news to spread more awareness of Bitcoins as a whole.

I wish there was some way to know how many 'lost' Bitcoins there were at any given time. You could make an educated guess I suppose but nothing too accurate.

It will be amazing to see when we will reach total bitcoins mined,on that time we will see what will be the value of bitcoin,and the big question is will we be alive to see our baby growing and being mined till last block?

The block reward will be negligible long before all the coins are mined. If there is to be genuine deflation then we'll see it before all of us here are toast.

I doubt he had predicted such thing,the same way he didnt know his or her creation would be a huge sucess ,he made something and the suport people made bitcoin being alive and bringed anothers altcoins into the world,allowing people to be rich from one day to another,and be part of financial investments people that are taking a fee to their life.But well i really hope to be alive to see what will happen with bitcoin after mining ends,im curios and there are several years ahead to this question as an answer.

It is good to see even after hitting the 15,000,000 mark price are much more stable and it is pretty decent range at around 450$ for a while.It is really a milestone for Bitcoin.

So, now the tendency is btc getting more expensive as it get's harder to mine?

This gives us 6 000 000 reasons to buy more Bitcoins in the coming months... We cannot imagine what will happen if this goes mainstream. The "Halvening" would surely put some

pressure on the demand in the coming year, once people realize what it means and how much coins can be mined. The Satoshi stash makes it even more valuable, once those

coins are subtracted. We are sitting on a gold mine and many people do not recognize that.  ::)

This is very encouraging chart which shows 15 millions Bitcoin are in supply and I think next year is to go mainstream right after halving of blocks will take place.We have great and prosper future together with Bitcoin.

the good thing of that it's the 15m are spread in all people in the world in different section of rich/medium and poor holder.

in the futur, you can send satoshi for free to your neighboor to start the new economy balance (like Brics with dollar in oil for example).

Well said get it before it's over rather than regretting and I have already decided to go for it I have started saving my Bitcoin rather than trading it and I hope all the smart users in this forum will do the same thing.

This is the way to go.

Yes, when considering there are only 6 millions of bitcoin yet to be mined, the prosperous future for every bitcoiner is very near.

15 million must be a big mark within up coming halving. When halving will occur only 750k more coins would have been mined out.
In 25 new bitcoins reward per block era, 15million is the last big round number.
It means 16 millions coins mark will be reached with 12.5 block reward era.

That's a nice number of bitcoins minned, only rest 6 million. We will have the halving on mid 2016, i expect that we will see a lot of positive news on this new year, and an increase on bitcoin price.

yey bitcoin has reached a new technological milestone today. congratulation to the miners tho  the mining difficulty has risen by nearly 250% close to reaching 100 billion.

Time files, doesn't it? But soon the supply will become smaller and smaller. 12.5 BTC coinbases, then 6.25, then 3.125, until we get to less than a bitcoin of coinbase. Ugh.

scary to think only 6 million more can be mined but I wouldnt be surprised if only 6 million now are actually in circulation.
So we still have 50% to go  ;D
