Title: What's going to be the next big Bitcoin announcement?

I'm looking for something to look forward to.  What do you feel will be the next big announcement for Bitcoin in the next month?

There will be only nothing. Maybe it will be discussed again (as it is becoming since its creation) about its price. If it will be some special price about which can be told more there will be more posts and more threads dedicated to it (even I cannot understand how can be more than already are; cannot find the aim of the new ones). Then other threads full of speculations or repetitions. And posts which will tell the same things because no one read more than the previous post (if read even this one). That's all.  ;)

I would like that the improvements in privacy keep happening. I was very excited to see confidential transactions when they were released, but apparently Gmaxwell has stopped working on Bitcoin? or that's what i've read, it's a shame. Well I hope someone keep pushing on the right direction..

What would be nice to see in january new year would be the winklevoss ETF launch but really the best we could hope for is approval for a date in the future it will be launched. Cant see a bigger and better way for wall street entrance than that.

there will not be special in the months ahead, there would be no significant price increase in mid-year until August, that we should wait, bitcoin halving, we all do not know what will happen too ;D

I guess everyone is excited. 2015 is already different than 2014 for many reasons, e.g. the price level in January is lower than at the end of December (where it kept going down in 2014). Anything could happen in 2016, I'm looking forward to something like the ETF.

I'm not sure if it's a BIG announcement, but at least a very positive one.

Unfortunately, merchants cannot accept bitcoins directly. As the customer sends his or her bitcoins to the bank, the merchant receives a hryvnia-equivalent of the amount. This limitation is related to lack of legal certainty for bitcoin in Ukraine. However, the National Bank of Ukraine stated that it was going to integrate bitcoin in the country’s financial system. This means that immediate acceptance of bitcoins in Ukraine is but a matter of time.

That is great! Let's just hope that the 'immediate acceptance' doesn't mean in 6 months or more. I could say that this is quite a good announcements, it's quite rare that a bank wants Bitcoin and not blockchain technology. It does seem like we're heading in the right direction.

Core is not planning to increase the blocksize anytime soon, therefore I think that an industry or user led fork will be the next big announcement we should all be looking for. I do not accept waiting for Core and accepting whatever they choose, the market wants the blocksize to be increased, so the blocksize will be increased. Bitcoin is not ruled by a small centralized group of technocrats, it is ruled by the market and the economic majority. The original vision of Satoshi will prevail even if Core is presently active in attempting to undermine it, for anyone that thinks that Bitcoin is not ruled by the market I suspect they will soon be facing a rude awakening.

Once it goes over $500, it s gonna hit the news again. 500 mark is a pretty big psychological barrier.

No need to fork, just patiently wait till the unevitable happens with more transactions - then even the hardcore decentralizationers realize they protect no decentralization with small blocks when people need to do mostly offchain centralized transctions in order to use Bitcoin at all. Learning the hard way is what most people need.

And most likely the next big news will be price related - so typical for media.

I am not sure what it will be... but I am pretty sure what I want it to be :

~ A release of a Killer Bitcoin Application
~ A major online retailer accepting Bitcoin payment
~ Banks failing miserably with their private Blockchains and accepting Bitcoin.
~ A whole country {bigger than 3km} accepting Bitcoin as the reserve currency.

If only one of these things happen in 2016... We will once again see some 4 figure prices for Bitcoin.  ::)

the bitcoin price has already been on $500 and has also been on several news channels. i don't think it will happen again when we reach $500. i think the $600 level will be more interesting coverage as it is a new high.

I think the next big bitcoin news announcement will be the increase of block chain size. Either 2MB or 4MB will increase the price a lot.

Just speculating, but a killer app that allowed users to earn some BTC and buy from their phone will be a great announcement.

Something like you view some ads or test some apps and your balance increases (which can be balance incorporated directly on an in-app wallet). Then the app also has a shop for apps or other things in BTC that are spendable directly from the same app.

Will be huge for adoption, and think it is doable.

then i dunno what they are waiting for, 2MB is not overkill they can do it right now, it's the best and simple solution, to extend the breath of the network a bit, until a better solution will kick in

Yes even if bitcoin reaches $500 may be next year it won't be the talk of the town because already it has been already predicted that BTC will reach $500 but yes as you said if it's value goes much higher than the prediction then surely it will be in news and all again

You mean like buying and selling it on an exchange?  We already have that.  Buying bitcoin is better than buying something that represents bitcoin and I don't think Wall Street is going to think up something better.

The Winklevii ETF seems to have become very peaceful. I guess there's not much point in hyping it unless there's some actual forward progress.

most public exchanges(coinbase, bitfinex, bitstamp) are consumer level exchanges.. where any deposits over $10,000 get flagged, delayed and questioned. and most regular users of those exchanges are holders of sub 100 bitcoins. most of the time sub 5btc..

but the winklevi ETF would be on much a bigger scale..
firstly brokers will be buying bitcoins in bundles of 2000 coins. (far bigger than consumer exchanges allow). and with wall street regulations and insurance. we will see investors throwing millions of dollars at the ETF, not thousands at consumer level exchanges.

I support this movement.  The issue is that no one owns BTC and there would be no reason to trade it like that on wall street.  You would need some company that wants to pay the fees to get BTC traded as a stock.  You can not get it traded as a currency because there are no governments that are treating it as a currency.  The US government sees Bitcoin as an asset and not a currency.  I would like to see the wall street move, but I do not see that happening in the near future.

It's exactly how franky1 is saying it. I was not talking about the current incompetent Bitcoin exchanges. There has to be a professional exchange or at least a way for real investors to step into Bitcoin with their millions in a secure manner. Current exchanges will shit in their pants when some one deposits +$1 million. That's why we need Wall Street level exchanges, where they can safely step into Bitcoin with large numbers of fiat.

I honestly think that maybe the next one would be the big bitcoin fork we've been waiting for. Faster tx times, please! :D Anyone else looking towards a change to a new BIP?

Or maybe a country decides it should make bitcoin its official currency. Or at least recognises it officially, and even encourages it.

An announcement? There are no BTC announcements. Those come from centralized organizations.

I wish the community will make the news by finding a solution to the scalability problem which will get more and more acute.
I also wish more and more brick and mortar stores will accept BTC.
The only sure thing is the halving, but there won't be any announcement.

I am really expecting that bitcoin will soon announce that they have received confirmation by several states and countries in the world accepting them as a formal currency. I have always had this feeling that the rate at which the bitcoin is gaining popularity will have to force very many countries to accept it since it has begun having a great effect on the economy of the countries taking part in the whole process of bitcoin trading. Wait for a great surprise coming on your way soon than expected.

Something like this should be great. But I don't think countries are up for that.

The first thing that will happen is that some companies declare they will back bitcoin.

Not sure if Wallstreet acceptance would be that good as most people here think.
Wallstreet could trade other volumes the normal Bitcoin traders and banks could bet against Bitcoin (short speculations with leverage).
It could crash the price immense.

Well we already got whales playing the market, so i ma not sure the wallstreet guys can do more harm.

I remember a fuzz last year with bitcoin being shorted, the actual affect on the price was minimal to say the least.

If Ukraine will realize this - which for the moment is only a wish or better an expression of interest to know better all the world of cryptos (including bitcoin particularly) - this would be the begin of a new era for bitcoin. No one country (as I know) has accepted bitcoin as legal currency. Every country which has regulated it has given several statuses or names or classification but no one the real name: legal currency to be used and to have the same rights and status as their national currency. So if this step can be made from Ukraine would be a big step ahead for bitcoin. Ukraine has not a position in the "club of the important countries" of the world. But is not even an undeveloped country. So let hope that the word of the head of the Payment Systems Department at the National Bank of Ukraine Natalia Lapko about the "carefully watching the intensive growth of digital currencies" and that this country "does not rule out the possibility of integrating bitcoin into the Ukrainian financial system" become reality and open the new definitive phase of bitcoin in which "he" will have finally its natural place in the financial world.

We have to get used to the idea that more and more countries will develop Blockchain based services not necessarily linked to the bitcoin token. Just recently there were rumors being spread that China will be developing it's own digital equivalent of Bitcoin. If this happens, Bitcoin will struggle.

The one thing where Bitcoin has the advantage over these other Alt coins, is that no conversion is needed to jump from one coin to the next. Every jump adds fees and makes it more expensive. Bitcoin to Bitcoin will stay the cheapest option.

Since this question was asked by OP in december, I'd say the big Bitcoin announcement which OP was hoping for has already happened, 2 actually, one is Cryptsy getting allegedly hacked and funds stolen and two Mike's departure from Bitcoin world.

I won't happen next month, but I am definitely waiting for the moment Wall Street is making it possible to trade Bitcoin like you can do with stocks. That would be an insane announcement. It will most likely take some years before it's possible. I have patience. :)
Maybe they will be good for stabilization of price,
But also what will happen if they take control of how to use coins?

The other one is the announcement of 2MB proposal by Gavin Anderson to get some support from the community.

Hopefully Bitcoin classic is dead, and the developers will stop trying to mess up a brilliant innovation

If the Bitcoin Core applies the 2MB very soon, I hope the Classic dead. But we need big block size.

I don't think there is going to be a Bitcoin announcement in a month or even 2. The next announcement will most probably be Bitcoin halving.
