Title: I have access to Bitcoin and X children?
Post by: Adrian-x on December 13, 2012, 12:15:54 AM
I am aware that many contributors to this forum base some of their ideological positions on the fact that they have children.   I am curious to know what percentage of active members have children in their lives?
Feel free to suggest missing options but I am interested to know how many children are under the influence of Bitcoin role models, and what if at all your kids think of Bitcoin?

My children (15 and 17) are pretty knowledgeable about bitcoin.  But they know a lot of stuff that other children do not get to learn, like 9-11 being an act of terrorism pulled off by Israel and elements of the U.S. military/industrial/medical establishment.

My son owns bitcoin himself.  He asks for payment in them.

I haven't really gathered that and I wouldn't say it's true for me. My philosophy certainly deeply affects my parenting, but not so much the other way. My philo changed a lot more in the 2 years before I had my first kid than in the years since.

Not jumping to any conclusions, I see lots of people referring to children when making a point and it seemed they were talking from experience. Regarding philosophy it was the other way around for me having kids changed my perspective.

3 kids, resident physician (some weeks are equivalent to 2 full time jobs) and no currently active Bitcoin projects...my Bitcoin app for iOS is off the market...I can't pony up the $100 annual apple developer fee to keep selling my $50 profit per year app :)

I do software development from home, wife is stay-at-home, we homeschool, and we have 4 kids under 7 (soon to be 5 kids in a couple days...)

Our oldest is still too young to truly understand the intricacies of Bitcoin, but he knows what mining is. He even built a "mining rig" out of Legos a year and a half ago.

That's why I went "Android" rather than "iOS".

iOS is slick and all that, but it's for rich people. Apple is lousy towards its developers; it treats them like ____. No thanks.
I actually found a free game dev library that ports to PC/Mac/Linux/Android/iOS -- though iOS support is in its early stages, I'm sure it will be ready by the time I need it.

...yes, iOS is for the rich and/or the busy...I like telling Siri to put X on my shopping list and it auto syncing to my wife's phone...or everything just showing up on my new iPhone after upgrading...or apps and books purchased on one device just showing up on another...perhaps other platforms can do all this, I dunno...but ease of use is my excuse for participating in a system I don't ideologically agree with.

If you could mine bitcoin with children...  hmmmm.  There are a handful of abusive countries around the world that would double GDP if this was possible.  Maybe they could turn a crank or something to power the rigs.  I'm imagining endless rows of kids running in hamster wheels.

Funny idea, but this is in fact a huge benefit, many of the foundations in our industrialised society came at the expense of children, and still today child labour plays a significant role in mining of gold, diamonds and other precious metals.

I watched Tony Gallippi presentation  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=131256.0) and at the beginning he suggests Bitcoin is at the  Innovators stage in the adoption lifestyle (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=113606.0), this view implies Bitcoin is going to grow big, and with half the BTC already mined it also implies the only parth to adoption is a crazy amount of voluntary wealth redistribution, this requirement for voluntary wealth sacrifice diminishes the benefits.

And with the point above ie. child labour used to create much of the existing wealth today, it could be morally justified that it gos to BTC as it is mined free of child labour.

Are you thinking of starting a Silk Road based business, and trying to see if there is a market for your precious little products?

Seriously, though, 46 w/ children? Holy wow!  :o

I can't answer the poll because three answers apply to me:
Kid under 13, kids over 13, and I'm still a kid (at 43).

They would probably recognize the word "bitcoin" but not have any idea what it means or what it's for.  I should probably work on fixing that.

After I finish my real job, I come home and work for my kids for no pay.  This past two weeks I am about ready to go on strike unless they give me a raise.  Aren't there any parent protection labor laws?

I would say about 1/3 of Bees Brothers is bitcoin transactions.  All my kids (except the 7 month old) prefer btc over fiat.  And they can articulate the reasons why.  They try to keep their savings more commodity based...silver, bee equipment, honey, and btc.  So far its been a better return than a savings account.  (Plus, in the summer time they work so hard they don't have time to spend their money) :D

I also have to agree that having children did not change my philosophy.  But they do lead me down different paths of learning I wouldn't have chosen on my own...

Explain please? What kind of ideological positions that are popular on this forum do you think come as a result of having children?

Please don't read to much into my statement, not sure how to put this across effectively but in my reading on the forum  I got the feeling many active members have children, kids are sometimes referenced in posts. I was just curious and wanting to understand the typically Bitcoin enthusiast.

I am surprised that about 60% of respondents are married.
As suspected a large number are parents. (This I wouldn't have thought typical)
