Title: Question about the bitcoins that the usa government sold... Post by: TheGrimm on December 29, 2015, 11:11:45 PM customers on mtgox lost millions, so the usa government confiscated them and sold them, is that money going to the victims or does the government keep it all?
I have a feeling the government keeps it all and if thats true, that is really really fucked up, its basically a scammer(mtgox) stealing from a scammer(usa government not giving to the victims and keeping for themselves) isn't it? As far as I know, the goverment puts auctions and just make a bid and whoever wants to buy them buy them (obviousy I guess you need to meet certain criteria like, being a US citizen and not being a criminal etc). Last I heard (most of) the Mt Gox coins were nowhere to be found, and the coins sold by the USA were the ones from Silk Road...

Different cases :) Mt Gox coins, if found are (supposedly) going to their right owners. Silk Road coins were seized for alleged criminal activities and afterwards auctioned, as per US law. |
