Criminal activity continues to undermine bitcoin, but VCs invested more than ever.

Some of the characters attracted to the digital currency bitcoin continue to be the biggest rivals to its success.

Earlier this month, the SEC charged two bitcoin mining companies, GAW Miners and ZenMiner, both owned by Joshua Garza, with operating a Ponzi scheme. The SEC says that Garza made $20 million in ill-gotten gains by selling customers shares in “hashlets.” Forget what that actually means—for the sake of the public image of bitcoin (both the digital currency and the underlying technology that powers it), it doesn’t matter. What matters is that this fraud, only the latest bitcoin-related criminal activity, brought on another round of bad headlines for the still-nascent industry.

This is the highlights and the focal point of this article :

~ “There is nothing illicit or illegal about bitcoin. It is a neutral technology.”
~ Newspapers seize on the bad news and ignore all the cool stuff.
~ The currency’s biggest appeal right now is for remittances.
~ Bitcoin as a commodity has been more stable in 2015 than in the past.
~ In 2014, bitcoin-related startups raised around $315 million and in 2015 bitcoin companies raised $485 million.

Some very positive things happened in 2015, and we need to concentrate on that.... not the usual crime and scandal articles.  ;)

I still don't get this thing with the killer app.
To me sending money around at any time, to any place, without the need of banks or any other third party is the killer app!!
It just takes time for the average joe out there to grasp that.
I mean how long have people thought or where told that cars are shitty and horse-drawn carriages is all they need!!
