(Reuters) -- Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, who is pushing for executive powers, cites Hitler's Germany as an example of an effective presidential system, in comments broadcast by Turkish media on Friday.

Erdogan wants to change the Turkish constitution to turn the ceremonial role of president into that of a chief executive, a Turkish version of the system in the United States, France or Russia.

Asked on his return from a visit to Saudi Arabia late on Thursday whether an executive presidential system was possible while maintaining the unitary structure of the state, he said: "There are already examples in the world. You can see it when you look at Hitler's Germany.

"There are later examples in various other countries," he told reporters, according to a recording broadcast by the Dogan news agency.

The ruling AK Party, founded by Erdogan, has put a new constitution at the heart of its agenda after winning back a majority in a November parliamentary election.

It agreed with the main opposition CHP on Wednesday to revive efforts to forge a new constitution.

Opposition parties agree on the need to change the constitution, drawn up after a 1980 coup and still bearing the stamp of its military authors, but do not back the presidential system envisaged by Erdogan, fearing it will consolidate too much power in the hands of an authoritarian leader.

Erdogan is dangerous, It's coming to the point to see if Turkey is really a reliable NATO ally. Coordinating intel with the barbarians in Syria, not closing the border, going after the Kurds- now he likes Hitler's form of government?

No, he fits in perfectly. Itīs an organization without any responsibility, accountability or morals for that matter. Fascists usually arenīt overly concerned about other fascists, especially if itīs allies.

One thing is for absolutely sure: Garbage media and other fruitcakes that are constantly worried about the new and next Hitler here and there, wonīt see any of that in this Erdogan guy, especially since he mentions how great a model Hitler is.

More funny thing here is that Hitler's Germany was not a presidential republic. Hindenburg died in 1934 and presidential office was vacant since this time until Hitler's death. The institution of presidential power was defunct during his rule.

P.S. Maybe he tried to say that he's going to commit suicide? Dead Erdogan ~= dead Hindenburg, almost perfectly matches with the German version of successful presidential system.

Heīs talking about a chief-executive, a sort of strongman, in todayīs more or less fake democracies and draws  comparison from Hitler in that context. Itīs a valid point to some degree but probably not for the reason that he intended.

Erdogan sold billions of dollars worth government owned properties, and companies, and pocketed all the money. "Then he bought western media and politician with this money"

Russia and France aren't implementing the presidential system, but rather semi-presidential.
