Title: Poll to determine most popular ways to use bitcoin cold storage
Post by: BitcoinNewsMagazine on January 04, 2016, 03:52:44 PM
There are enough options for bitcoin cold storage on the market now a poll to determine the most popular seemed an interesting idea. The days of being limited to using Armory or Electrum with two computers is over, with several convenient options available from $20 to $249. Which do you use?

I think you are forgetting the possibility of printing a paper wallet with BIP38 encryption and wrapped on plastic as another way to store Bitcoins that you don't intend to use for long periods of time. A lot of people seem to be doing this.

My cold storage of choice is powered by Armory. Trezor and Ledger are also definitely interesting, will probably try one of these in the future.

I cant vote for any off those because i use a paper wallet, id be confident to say that a good amount of people are also only using paper wallets rather than hardware, might be worth editing the poll to add it if you can.

Surprisingly most vote counts for now is Trezor ,not expected that.I'm myself a Trezor user with a belief people prefer armour over Trezor anyday.Nice to see I made a right decision. :)

Same here, if there was a paper wallet option added to the poll it would probably be the most popular choice. Why should I pay for a hardware device that could conceivably break when I can use a piece of paper? If I put any electronic device in a drawer for a few years I never expect it to work when I start it up. Sometimes a device still works, but I never rely on it.

My vote will go for Ledger HW.1.
i've been using Ledger HW.1 for quite long time, it's really easy to use and it's cheap. ;)

i would say the ledger nano, because it resemlbe the usb, but i'm actually using a simply usb for now

i'm planning to have the most secured hot storage and not cold storage, with a dedicated server and everything, it may sound overkill, but i like to have my own bitcoin bank, ready to be used

I added the option of voting for a paper wallet. I personally do not care for them and blogged (https://bitcoinnewsmagazine.com/bitcoin-paper-wallets-are-not-safer-than-hardware-wallets/) my reasons why.

They may not be safer but done right i wouldnt exactly call them unsafe. they are still a great form of protection for your much cherished bitcoins and a valid way to store them as many do.

To be honest, I think all the options are equally popular with certain importance to it.

I don't use cold storage, because I have never had that much BTC at a time and felt like it needed to be protected. When I do though, I will probably use a paper wallet.

...

I was not able to vote!  The section above showed the 8 votes received so far, but there was no button(s) for me to choose.

I currently use a Ledger Nano and a Trezor.  I like both about the same.

I never thought there was so many options for the cold storage. Even if the poll is finished, I'd pick paper wallets, because they're cheap, nice-looking, personalisable and easy to obtain.
