Title: Blockchain.info / Sofort wallet deposit hasn't worked?
Post by: mrdobalena on December 20, 2012, 10:25:19 AM
Yesterday I registered on Bitchain.info and placed an order for Bitcoins directly from my wallet via Sofort.

3 hours later and the bitcoins still hadn't appeared on my bitchain.info wallet.

I emailed support and had a reply from Ben stating that:

Bitcoins were paid in this transaction: http://server2.blockchain.info/tx/2b4ac66b1b1514b8b971bb50e9b54490202beff4d57865baad18ff9f4b66f9ac wallet identifier XXXX

The wallet identifier quoted is NOT mine.

Have my bitcoins been paid into the wrong wallet somehow? How can I resolve this? Ben hasn't replied to my messages since and I'm nervous that I'm out of pocket.

Is this one 1Mq1gv48WhBXkMGUop8tbuAqptrCwxuu8b the address where you sent the coins or was it this one 12owF5JsvH3h6DhMa5xDPsMrSwiF2g49dd ?

If it was the 2nd address, do you know this dude https://twitter.com/slimeball2006/statuses/269882570353819648 ?

Sorry, blockchain.info

I didn't send my bitcoins to either of those addresses. They should have gone here:

395a326d-5308-9641-19d0-1fac7a9cc056

Have I been done?

That's not a bitcoin address, that's a blockchain.info wallet identifier.

Let me ask the question differentely: How many BTC did you buy? 5.59747276 BTC or 32.88236267?

Thats not a Bitcoin address, that is the identifier for your wallet, its used for logging in only. You need to login to your wallet to see your Bitcoin addresses, they start with a 1.

No you haven't been done, BC.info is a legit business & will make this right if something has gone wrong.

My bad - the wallet address is this: 15Te7y1vPyyYzkRhy1bakKoARzscaQXdFe

The order was for 5.597 btc.

The order was for 5.597 btc.

The owner of this address got them and still has them:
http://blockchain.info/address/12owF5JsvH3h6DhMa5xDPsMrSwiF2g49dd

Contact him trough his twitter account, maybe he can help you, if he's a nice guy. Before someone else does it for you! :P Because if blockchain.info did send him the coins, there's no way they can get them back if he doesn't give them voluntarily.

Its possible they sent you a link to somebody elses transaction by accident.

The dude just spent 0.06BTC of that money BTW so he's online.

No they didn't, he spent 0.06BTC but sent the change back to the same address.

I don't understand how my bitcoins 'just moved'? Do I have any recourse apart from trying to contact this guy? He's a student in Edinburgh from what I can tell...my chances look minimal!

How can I get my bitcoins?!!!

0.06 less lol

It's very simple: He got the coins sent to an address which he controls, he can move them all he wants.

Contact him. Just remember to be polite. These matters of funds sent by mistake usually don't end well when one of the parties involved starts to act like a dick, and one of them starting to act like a dick is all it takes for things to escalate, so, don't be the that guy ;)

Thanks for your help with this. I have a few questions:

1) I placed the order to be deposited to my wallet. How do the coins end up in a wallet controlled by someone else?
2) How did he get the coins sent to an address that he controlsm, given that this was MY order?
3) How can this be prevented?

I'm not hugely optmistic about getting my coins back...

This is not your problem, let blockchain.info solve it.

Are they likely to?

They are likely to tell you why the coins got sent to that other wallet.
If they'll say it's their or your error and therefore loss, who knows.

If what you posted was all they said it doesn't look like they're giving it much importance.

Unbelievable. I'm furious about this! Blockchain is a joke - how can Ben expect to scale it if its vulnerable to such a basic problem?! There's no way I'm accepting any fault for this.

Did you have to supply your bitcoinaddress or did blockchain do that automatically?

Blockchain does it automatically via integration with Sofort

Exactly, so it is a blockchain.info problem and I am sure they will solve this for you.

Yesterday's story too involved a blockchain.info wallet and funds sent to the wrong address. (the bitcoinstore and Roger Ver drama)

Could these two problems have a common cause? I mean, a software problem at blockchain.info.

Thanks, fingers crossed. I read that it's a one man band at the moment so hopefully he'll sort. I'll keep this thread updated with progress.

I can't help but wonder if it was driven by the twitter share - what are the odds of being able to locate a wallet owner otherwise?!

Update - Ben is looking into what's caused the issue and has asked me to request a new transaction and provide the reference number, so hopefully this will soon be sorted.

Slight mix up with the names on a deposit order. It has now been resolved.
