Nothing can be guaranteed to be safe at the moment. However, I think Bitcoin should be an important element in your portfolio of investments. Shares (other than arms manufacturers and farming) together with bank deposits should be avoided.

I don't think so! The price is quite stable at the moment, before the halving actually occurs in the middle of 2016! I estimate a big pump is approaching!

we have complete key directory, although it is hard to find an address with bitcoin, it is still a bit risky to get your bitcoin stolen.
i would believe that bitcoin is safe unless the directory could easily figure out the keys and the addresses.

It is not the risk of being stolen that OP is talking about, it is the risk of losing alot of value.

Due to the shaky financial situation in the world, stuff like bitcoin can become very attractive very fast due to the inability of the government to influence it.

Investing in something is never safe. There are always risks, it just depends on what kinda of risks you are willing to take. Even bitcoin is not safe but hey, we all take the risk to believe in bitcoin and that it will grow to it's full potential.

I agree to it when you say the current bitcoin is very safe to be stored or adopted, because it has not found a way to steal or hack account bitcoin, but have you ever you think bebeerapa years, the hacker will study the security system bitcoin, and I think that time security bitcoin threatened.

I am feeling safe and secure with my investment into bitcoin it is one of the strongest currency of the year 2015 and still growing more strongly as so many investors coming so that i think investment into bitcoin is really wise choice at this stage.

i'd say definitely agree with you, after halving bitcoin price will go up (even like that still have a chance to dropdown) , the main problem if you own bitcoin is about your security,some time you made mistake which make your bitcoin stolen (every people doing mistake),so, i hope we'll got more easy,simple, and secured wallet or thing to store bitcoin,even hardware wallet can be lost too

The only thing that is safe to me is just if you have 1 bitcoin.

Bitcoin is for those who believes i it. We don't need people who will feel unsecure just because the price suddenly drops. It's a long term investment and something to look forward into more so I think for those who is willing to wait for bitcoin to reach it's full potential, it is safe to invest in it.

That is quite the goal and should be very easy to obtain. Just spend 51% of your current fiat holdings on bitcoin and you have obtained your goal.

It feels safe when it's sitting at nice prices like it is now,  but when it drops down low you kind of wonder if your doing the right thing.  All going well there won't be any need to worry though if we continue at current prices.

Bitcoin is a long term investment if you buy it for that purpose.There's a risk involved in bitcoin too like all investments but in long run it is going to pay

I feel pretty confident with my investments that I have made in bitcoin, I don't have any regrets so far.

Well what is risky and what is safe? Everybody has an own definition for that.
I think Bitcoin is still very risky, although 7 years old.There is a some more way to go before we really can be sure that Bitcoin is here to stay and it's value is not going down to zero (very unlikely imo).

To be it is still very risky to hold onto Bitcoin. Although I did not buy Bitcoin before - I earn them - I actually have confident that Bitcoin price will not be at 400. Somewhere just above. I earn them and I hope to start from zero and reach 100 USD soon. :).

I do not find any risk in investing into bitcoin. Now a days bitcoin prices are more stable around $425.
Risk is there with type of investments so with bitcoin also. It is never recommended to put all of our earning into bitcoin or into any other one single investment type.

There is not a single investment out there that has no risks attached to it. Nothing is ever too safe or too secure. It's a risk that we all take to invest our time and money into. 

The risk of bitcoin was the same since the beginning. Who believed on it (seeing and following all the activity related to it) has bought continuously - maybe even sell sometimes - but most of times has bought. We are in the same situation like the early adopters for those who will known bitcoin after 5-10 years. Have no meaning that between of us who are here be someone who don't believe in bitcoin. And who believe in bitcoin, think that is more safe than risky. Otherwise would be not there to discuss about it or will not hold any of those. Will sell all. In the same situation have been even our "predecessors". In this situation will be even our "successors". Who believe in it will find it always more safe than risky. Otherwise - repeat - will be not here to read and be active withing this forum.

Yeah, I feel amazing at the fact all those idiots that hated on Bitcoin and relied on traditional stocks are crashing hard while we reap the benefits from their broken system. Serves them well.

To be honest, when I first heard about bitcoin, I never thought it would become something that it became today. I was one of the people who didn't believe bitcoin would become this big of a deal. So at the time I didn't invest into it. Which comes to show that, that was my mistake. But I came around and here I am, still holding what I have.

lot of people said bitcoin is very risky but some of them also say bitcoin is very safe because never got hacked or something else but for me personally having bitcoin is pretty safe now and as you can see the price jump over $20 today and i believe who buy it yesterday will earn lot of profit today

I know it seems relatively safe due to the 'low' volatility. At least compared to back in 2013 when we saw those sky high $1000+ prices.
But prices can still drop, however unlikely it may be with the reward halving so close.

Totally agree.

- Stable (if not steady rising price).
- Close to guaranteed profit as a result of the halving.
- No threat of capital controls like there is in some countries with their fiat junk.

I watched what happened in Greece closely and feel more comfortable having full control over my money, than trusting a back to keep it safe for me. I think the stock markets

can collapse every day. Why do they close the markets when there is a huge threat or something major happens? It's not to protect the investors interest, but to protect

themselves. Bitcoin place the financial responsibility squarely in your hands. You have FULL control.  ;D

Not as safe as you think, the bitcoin in the end is just a protocol runs on thousands of servers around the world, if those servers agree, they can take your coin without your consent, especially when you don't own one of those servers

That's indeed that Bitcoin is a safe asset. The only thing that could cause a mass drop in the price would be that another crypto-currency become more adopted than Bitcoin (that we all obviously know will never happen).

The price seems pretty healthy right now and I just cannot see it crashing down anytime soon. 

I saw an article today that Stanford is now offering an engineering coarse in Bitcoin, Stanford is top notch in academics and if they are on board that is a good sign. 

Each day more and more mainstream articles are coming out about Bitcoin and banks are scrambling to create their own version.

All of these things make me feel it is very safe.  I also believe strongly in the technology itself outside of the monetary gain possibilities.

Right now it is safe, but it might crash at any momment. Or rise for that matter. But i will still keep them, because i think it will rise in the future.

Couple Reddit threads being overly optimistic about stagnant price of bitcoin is not gonna change that bitcoin could be extremely volatile at times.
But it is true that people (me included) are surprised that bitcoin value is quite stable (last year a year before we always had bitcoin price crash in January).

It's not really stable, it's better than stable! If you've bought like me 4 or 5 months ago at around $200 then it was always up. Of course it's a bumpy ride, but Bitcoin has been appreciating year after year, so it's completely safe to say that if you buy now, it will be worth much more in the next couple of years if everything remains relatively normal.

If you're investing in Bitcoin on the side then the current situation can be quite thrilling especially with the halving around the corner but it would be a different story if you depended on Bitcoin for your food, rent, bills. That is the main reason people consider Bitcoin risky, because you can never really predict when Bitcoin moves up or down.

It is quite safe to own Bitcoin and best time to grab some while these gifted prices are available.The way is clear ahead towards stability,freedom and prosper future for Bitcoin as well as its holders.There is no such a risk to loose if you buy even at current prices.The price after halving if doesn't increase then too mining cost will not let them drop much.It see it safer now then last year.

Bitcoin is not risky anymore.It is safer investment opportunity for everyone.Price will go much more higher by the end of this year and will explode in couple of years.

It could be risky if you need the money in few days, no one can be sure that it will have the same price or higher in one week. But if you go to long time, it wouldn't be a problem. In few months the reward of minners will be the half (halving event), and its normal that prices increase with this. Also a lot of companies are investing in bitcoin directly or in bitcoin applications. In my opinion its safe. But no one can be 100% sure.

First of all, please learn some basic English. The language in this thread is so terrible that I need to guess half of the time what you want to say.

Everyone here who shares the opinion that the Bitcoin price "will have to go up" because of the halving event has no clue about how Bitcoin is distributed. If halving will have an effect on the price it will take >many< months. There are now 15 million Bitcoins in circulation, and the only thing changing in summer is that the rate of newly mined coins will slow down but most coins that will ever be available will have already been mined and are for sale. If we will see a price increase apart from speculative bubbles (like today by the chinese, cheap volume trick by the way) I'm sure it will not be before 2017. Everything else is speculation, or perhaps new user adoption but has 0 to do with mining.

It always have been safe in my opinion if you have just at least 1 bitcoin in your hand.
The other bitcoin that you have earn or bought you can just trade or other things to earn more money.
So people who says is not safe will is not safe, but at least you can earn money if you careful enough.

There's always a small risk to have bitcoins, but if you buy them to sell them later for higher price then they're pretty safe

yeah i have a small amount of bitcoins and i hold it without any doubts that the price will not drop at all

At a moment I think the price will rise, its better to hold bitcoins at a moment, but do not hold it too long, if it is giving you profit at any mode of time, I suggest you to sell it.

I was also thinking the same while reading newspaper I saw gold prices going up that is there any correlation between gold and bitcoin price? why is it when one raise,other also tend to raise?

I disagree the bitcoin is still very risky, the bitcoin has never been stable and also very unpredictable so everything can happen. The price will go to a high amount when the halving has been done but it can collapse for sure by it, the bitcoin is just very unstable.

yup it is safe, price won't fall soon, and it will rise more and more each week, so i think it's perfecttime to buy now, no risk

TBH I think it's naive to ever think it's safe to own bitcoin. It is completely normal for bitcoin to be stable for a period of time and then have sudden, drastic changes in price with very little warning. This pattern seems to recur consistently. I wouldn't be so sure a bitcoin investment is safe based on the price being relatively stable for a couple months or so.

Safe my pimply white ass.  The volatility is just incredible.  It's breathtaking.  If you want out of the stock market and are fleeing to safe investments, shit like precious metals is the way to go but even those can be volatile.  But I think gold & silver have been beaten down so much that it's probably a good buying opportunity right now.

I definitely don't think bitcoin is a "safe" investment.  I think it's pretty risky.

I think for now bitcoin is safe and i think it increase more sooner. Just be patience there's no reason that the value of bitcoin will going down untill below 300 that's  impossible and i believe in bitcoin and it has a great future...

Feeling something is risky won't let you have a complete trust, Just because of the increase in the price over these days we can't judge its safe to own bitcoin now.

its not small risk dude. You can lose up to 30% of investments in one day, the bitcoin price is very volatile you know

i think it is still risky to own bitcoin, but the risk is lower now since the market has been more stable and as we go forward this risk becomes lower and lower.

I agree that owning bitcoin nowadays is not as risky as it was a year ago since it was just going down overall. but in the past few months from back when price was pretty stable at $230 until now bitcoin had a very solid steady overall growth until it reached $400 today.
looking at the charts the risk of losing money long term is so low these days unless you are staring at the price 24 hours a day, you will find yourself with profit over time.

Bitcoin is ofcourse risky. But that is normal it is a currency that it is always changing, so you never know what can happen later.
But if you can see now you see that the value is now rising slowly and that is very good for those who made an investment.

i also think that it is safe, it won't go down, and it will go up only,  there was no price drops few months, only pumps and dumps, so i recomend everyone to buy bitcoins now

How can owning a bitcoin be risky when price is $400+ ? You can say that buying a bitcoin is risky because you never know when price go down but owning bitcoin can never be risky from monetary point of view

Safe, my fat black pimply ass.  Once folks realize the halving has been priced in and we're not moonbound this year, everyone is going to dump moondollars onto the market and crash it.  This range we've been stuck in is lulling everyone into a false sense of security.

Well you never know what is gonna happen with the price of course but I do also not call the bitcoin risky because compared with every stockings it has risks.
The bitcoin is now a sort of stable, its of course not stable stable but I think there is more a chance it will be stable and better than it will collapse.
