Title: Looking For Altcoin Community to Join
Post by: lesliewest on January 07, 2016, 07:12:20 PM
I want to find am Altcoin community I can get plugged into. Figured I would let you guys make some suggestions. I want to join a community that has a dedicated members, but more importantly, one that resonates with my personal values/interests. Here are the basics:

* Early 30's software engineer, live on the east coast.
* I am politically Libertarian.
* Things that aggravate me: Oppressive Governments, Sovereign Debt, Drug War, Reality TV
* Things that interest me: Emerging Markets, Rural Sustainability, Urban Sustainability, Efficiency, Economics, Investing, Stoner Metal, 70's Country, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Metalocalypse
* Former linux hack who would love a good reason to get back into the weeds with an open source project (life gets in the way these days).

By plugged-in, I would like to start doing development and evangelism to grow the community. Start your pitches.

Magi (XMG) always welcomes new community members who take some minutes to understand what makes this coin so special.
Check it out and decide if you like the idea or not. magic111 (from the Dev team) is happy about each new member and ideas/input/activity from the community is appreciated.

You can join the GetGems community, currently the fastest growing community after bitcoin, at present 50k users with pretty dedicated devs and members. The good part is users who help grow the community get rewarded straight to their wallet in the app, the rewards are the highest paid 'faucet' if you will. Rewards will soon increase 10x.

- Website: http://getgems.org/

- Download: You can download from the website or from my referral which i get rewarded for http://r.getgems.org/m/1Xs25S9W8o or use the webclient. I can add you to our groups, users are mostly active there. You can add me @Cybe3punk or give me your username (to be found in settings)

Glad to see a like-minded Libertarian that wants to get involved! :)
I welcome you to join development at Sativacoin (STV). STV has been around since September 2014 and was officially taken over in November that year. Now with roots in Chicago, Sativacoin has made a lot of progress toward becoming the premier and trusted coin for the growing hemp and cannabis industries. We are currently trading on multiple exchanges and we are also accepted at multiple services, with much more to come. In an effort to keep your thread clean, you can read more about STV on our thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=874071.220

Welcome lesliewest. I think you will find plenty of likeminded
individuals in just any altcoin community - most crypto enthusiasts
think very much along the lines you have described, although their
musical tastes may vary  :D.

I'd say look into monero. Itīs got potential , a bigger community, is all open source and as a big extra with a good idea and the Forum Funding System at getmonero.org (http://getmonero.org) you could also get "paid" for doing your open-source things :)

Otherwise like tokeweed said Ethereum might be worth a look also.

Don't.

But if you do don't go in it for profit, go into it for the purpose they put forward.

There is planty of things to do for programmers, like monero gui for example.

if you got skills and passion
Expanse, 420 coins, NXT, UNO, XEM, XCR, EMC, BATA

avoid XMR, ETH, DASH, LTC, BTC ... too much drama plus they are already well staffed

Care to look at Horizon? It's not that big, but the crew is dedicated.

I think you'll get a kick out of altsheets (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=413122) - his enthusiasm is unquenchable.  ;D

[ As for myself, I'm enough of a "white male libertarian bro" to hold up that end. :) ]

Well if you're libertarian then you want to check out Bitshares.. The developer, bytemaster and his team built this coin from ground up in a very grass roots type of way. Here is a post on his blog about his political views. http://bytemaster.github.io/article/2014/12/16/Libertarianism-for-New-Agers/ (http://bytemaster.github.io/article/2014/12/16/Libertarianism-for-New-Agers/)

Their forum is here bitsharestalk.org (http://bitsharestalk.org)

Right now the price of BTS is very low. Good time to buy in.

How about the dogecoin community?  It's pretty solid, I think and it's definitely active.  At least on Reddit and I think they have their own forum.  I say this because the "shibes" seem to be friendly and they're genuinely trying to make their coin work.  Good luck, sir.

Any coin will do...

we are all here for the money and love for crypto currency.

I don't know if you would get more by joining well established bigger projects..

with smaller projects you could start small and the potential for growth is much bigger.

I guess you are already knowledgeable in bigger projects since they got more exposure..I suggest to try to look at smaller projects like

Argon (AR2) - new algorithm, newly released..the community has just begun..(dev seems inactive, needs GPU mining to chime in)

Fantom (FNX) - community begs for take over and willing to donate (dev left with broken coin), invested my lunch money there...I want 10 lunches in return  ;D LOL

Dashcoin (DSH) - my favorite, not developer dependent coz it,s a 100% bytecoin clone, you can leave any time you want LOL and we will irritate DASH  ;D..

there are many more small projects..

anyway you can do many coins if you like.

OR find a job and work hard...

If you are looking for a community that is at the cutting edge of innovation in a proof of work crypto currency, Then I would suggest Monero. For example: We just funded a project towards the implementation of confidential transactions and multi signature transactions with Cryptonote ring signature anonymity. Not only is this extremely cutting edge but the project was funded by the community in approximately 9 hours indicating the strength and dedication of the community. https://forum.getmonero.org/8/funding-required/2450/ring-ct-c-crypto (https://forum.getmonero.org/8/funding-required/2450/ring-ct-c-crypto). The paper on which this work is based is available here https://www.overleaf.com/read/qzgytbyyxvyf (https://www.overleaf.com/read/qzgytbyyxvyf). This is a community focused on building a cutting edge fungible and private crypto currency that also addresses the blocksize scaling issues in Bitcoin. The emphasis is on doing things right where mathematical rigor and peer review, take precedence over marketing.

Whichever coin and community you chose I do urge you to spend some time beforehand by doing you own research. This is what I chose to do before becoming a part of the Monero community.
