Title: Slower Mining with USB 2.0?
Post by: Cybershark on January 10, 2016, 03:26:19 PM
I think, my Antminer U3 is mining slower on an USB 2.0 Slot, than on an USB 3.0 Slot. Can that be true?
Or is it possible, that it mines slower with an slower internet connection?

Please help  :)

Greatings, Cybershark

i think internet connection isnot main thing, usb 3.0 is more fast then 2.0, so miner on usb 3.0 will work faster

Unless the USB 2 is faulty i dont think there should be a difference. As far as i understand it, the miner will be transferring minimal amounts of data, in comparsion to a USB 2.0 maximum capacity

Indeed, no difference. Previous comment is incorrect. Some stick actually don't work as well on USB 3.0, but it would be a driver/software issue that simply prevent you from running the thing.

Otherwise there is no difference between USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 for this.

Miner communications are tiny so usb speed makes no difference. Furthermore, the communication chip in a U3 is actually only USB1 capable so even if usb2/3 could make a difference, the device can't do it.

As far as mining transfer speed it does not matter.  The difference is 3.0 specifications it is more power than 2.0 specifications so it might have more power to run the usb stick.  But transfer speed does not matter.

Some modify 2.0 usb hubs to have more power so it's not always true on power.  But if you look at specifications usb 3 is around double on paper I think.

I also think, that USB 3.0 is faster, I do not see any other reason  ;)

It is not faster for mining, there is not all that much data being sent forth and back to the miner. Having a higher data bandwidth does not make the ASIC mine any faster.

It is true the speed of miner will not make a difference usb 2 is fast enough without issue.  Only difference on paper is usb 3 has more power aviable so could allow more power for a stick.

But with all the mod's people show on board that is not always true.  We have seen many usb 2 hubs people mod to add more power.

Personally i use a USB y splitter to get enough power. My USB 2.0 hub provide nearly as much power per port before sagging as my USB 3.0 port. (This experience for others will probably wildly vary depending on what hub they get) So if you really want more power to max overclock, you're most likely going to have to use two USB port if you want to push say a SideHack stick to the max, either way.

Otherwise if you run any normal stick, or a Sidehack stick at "regular" speed, i don't think any stick is going to max a single USB 2.0 port, even a regular end onboard one.
