Title: HUGE BLOCKS
Post by: kryptopojken on January 17, 2016, 09:41:02 AM

I doubt movement of that size is anything to worry about. It's not like anyone would be silly enough to dump it because they'd only be shooting themselves in the foot.

Agree. But imagine if you  saw over 10% of all the USD in the world was moved. It's interesting to know why and where

Like these ones for example:

https://blockchain.info/block/00000000000000000336b036117c2213088cf742ec3503a3ee96cabb8337570b

https://blockchain.info/fr/block/000000000000000007c8475c4da11cf943f761fdedc7c119529f5852486cc8fd

that first block is far & away the biggest one I've ever seen. With MK safely behind bars for now (I think) it can only be one of the big mining farms shifting its loot. For all the talk of Bitcoin being decentralized, it sure doesn't seem that way sometimes.

Probably an exchange moved funds between wallets. Apart from Satoshi himself there are very few whales with that much bitcoins (if any) and whales used to be careful, so AFIAK they used to store their coins in smaller portions, instead of one huge chunk.

Get ready for the dumps.

Maybe some exchanges got a bit spooked from the theft story by cryptsy and are taking improved security measures for their cold storage.

This may include a change of address, which explains the movement of these amounts of coins.

This one is not too bad either: 1131210 BTC  8)

https://blockchain.info/block/000000000000000009b1517fcf0cf76d633bd1fa29e617d063d572c9d87ce1c4

There were over a million bitcoins moved in that block today.

Someone could be preparing for a giant dump. Since I saw those bitcoins move I'm not sure the price will hold. It could have been an exchange or mining pool moving its funds around, and its not guaranteed they will be dumped, but if they are the price will suffer.

What's the difference between Output Total (1,058,430.66780311 BTC) and Estimated Transaction Volume (13,939.65297106 BTC) ?

Output Total contains exchange and fees while Transaction Volume is the net sum

If you follow through the biggest tx there you'll notice the same coins are being moved over and over by addresses;

https://blockchain.info/address/1GeLrvRc32ZR5PBc8zEsah8BejdefthdV
(...)
https://blockchain.info/address/16cs4ugdrLQpqDdTzgfqaeLG7wWCcMLLsQ

looks like an idiot trying to "self-wash" his coins...

Just a rich troll trying to make people waste time trying to figure out why so many coins are being moved.

Just ignore

I can't wait for confidential transactions so we don't have to deal with this bullshit. I mean I wish I wasn't broke and people would comment on how im moving a ton of coins, but imagine you are the rich guy, i would be pretty pissed off that people speculate about my money movements. CT will make the amount of coins being moved invisible. God bless G maxwell.

Wouldn't be easier just sign a message, like everyone does?

Maybe someone is just changing their backup addresses because they think that the previous one might not be so safe

This sort of behavior is more usual on people that didn't get yet how bitcoin works and think that by moving the same coins from address to address "washes" them up..
