Hello, i recently purchased 1 BTC and deposited it into a BTC core wallet that i had recently downloaded, and then finding out that i now have to download 50 gigabytes of data in order to access the BTC.

I'd rather not wait for days - is there anything i can do to speed things up? I knew about the 21gb torrent with the bootstrap.dat file but i'm already at about 15gb now so it's not worth it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You could use a lite client like Electrum and import your keys there as it doesn't requires downloading the blockchain, which will give you instant access to your coins.

Well, you can dump the private key and import it to a lite wallet or to Blockchain.info, otherwise there's nothing you can do to speed up sync.

If you have access to the wallet.dat file or the private keys you can export them to other wallets like Electrum.

You could go to the Bitcoin core console and type dumpprivkey "yourbitcoinaddress" and export the same on an SPV client like Electrum to access your funds quickly. Meanwhile you can let your Bitcoin core Sync till it downloads the blockchain completely.

First of all you need to know something. Bitcoin's wallet can be divided into 3 categories: wallet which need full local validation - it means they download full blockchain on your local machine every time you are online.
Wallet which uses simplified validation - they use online version of blockchain and are lightweight, they did not download blockchain and online wallets.

If you don't want to bother with huge blockchain downloading and synchronization everytime you start your wallet pick SPV wallet - Multibit, Electrum or online wallet like blockchain.info

It is most advisable, if OP is already downloading clients, to download Multibit or Electrum.

OP should stay away from blockchain.info until he is more knowledgeable
about the risks of its use, outside of watch-only addresses that you generated seperately.

yes, you need a good ssd, evo will do the trik already, it cost a low amount of money and a goo cpu also to initiate core faster

Hello, i did what you said, copied the private address and tried importing it into Electrum client, but an error always comes up "the following inputs could not be imported:"

I did the same thing when I bought my first bitcoin a few years ago. Are you desperate to access the money in the wallet now?

If not maybe just leave your PC running for a few days & you'll have a fully functioning, safe Core wallet.

Don't use any kind of shitty web wallet or anything, imo the positives outweigh the negatives using Core.

You only need to download the blockchain once, but you do need to keep it updated to run a full node. It takes longer to download later years, because of the increased number of transactions as Bitcoin becomes more popular. You can copy the blockchain onto your hard disk, and then let core check it. If you do this, make sure that you get a recent clean copy, as there have been cases mentioned where trojans have been introduced into the copy.

If you are in England, I can copy the chain onto a USB stick for you. It takes less than an hour to copy the full blockchain then. btw, from memory, the chain is around 60Gb at the moment.
