Hello guys while browsing through a popular Bitcoin sportsbook some days ago I saw there is a new entertainment market for betting on the upcoming Oscars. Do you have some secret information as per who is going to win in the different categories and want to share with the class here on the forum?  ;D Personally I like  Mad Max: Fury Road but I doubt it will be nominated for anything.

DiCaprio has good chance of finally winning an Oscar, already won the Golden Globe, the Oscar is next.

Agreed, he is a very good actor and played some amazing parts lately. If someone deserves it at the moment, it is him!

I also liked mad max a lot, but I don't think it is the type of movie to win an oscar. The story is just too weak. The special effects on the other hand are amazing, as is the sound.

Very true. I also believe he will very likely win the Oscar this year, but the odds I see is terrible @ 1.07. It is definitely not worth the risk IMO.

Star wars :? Not sure where the bets are available yet. I will definitely bet on Star wars, no matter the odds. Mad max would be the second closest. Doubt DICAPRIO will win this one. It's just the unwanted hype because he has done better roles in the past, worth an Oscar but he didn't get fuck all. Op if you could link the website where you found the bets, that would be useful.

The only bitcoin site I have found offering Oscars bets is nitrogensports https://nitrogensports.eu/sport/entertainment/oscars, but there are only bets for the major awards (in which Star Wars is not a nominee). I am not sure if Wendigo was talking about nitrogensports though.

I also saw nitrogensports putted up the oscars tab in their selections im planning to bet in the last minute before lines will be taken out
and see if itll move seems like dicaprio really wants the oscar with low odds 1.09

If people bet for DiCarpio than those people are so lucky.
He is a good actor indeed, but still he is waiting for him Oscar.

Yeah i agree with you, i think Leonardo DiCaprio will win his first oscar on this year. especially his act on film revenant so damn good though. i'm sure Leonardo DiCaprio will win this year.

I'm rooting for DiCaprio, he deserves one for all of the work he has done in the past.

I see that people are going to bet for DiCarpio.
Yeah I think at least he needs just one Oscar I see that he is crying inside with out a Oscar.
He really have a high chances to have a Oscar but that will be just 50/50.

holly crap! i never thought that oscar can played as betting object,its really different,and i just know this time,sound interesting and hrd to guess who will won Oscar this year,i love Mad Max too,but yes its maybe will not nominated,how about "Legend Movie" or "Maze Runer" its a very good movie for me,i hope they nominate.

I'm making small best as well. I'm hoping for DiCaprio to win one, he deserves it but I don't think it would make much of a difference for him.
He has a good income and spends out a lot to charity as well. I don't think an oscar would make a difference.

I have seen already The Revenant, The Martian, The Big Short, Bridge of Spies and Spotlight.

Matt Damon was very good in The Martian, but for me Oscar should to get DiCaprio, he was really brilliant! Glob for sure will help him to do that finally ;)

Spotlight and The Revenant seems to be everyone's favorite, I am watching The Revenant tonight or tomorrow and will try to watch the others before betting on anything.

People say like that so many years and every year there is someone better.  :D  This time, however, I do not see an actor who could pick up his Oscar. He had a very difficult role and played it really well.

I've never bet on them but maybe I should try this year. The Oscars are always predictable in a sense but there are also a lot of surprises so it's not as easy as you may think. I didn't see the Revenant but considering the other nominees I would bet my money on Leo really. In past nominations he had too much competition, but this time I think he's open and ready to score.

For best movie, again, I've only seen Mad Max and loved it, but I don't think the academy is really to start giving Oscars left and right to action movies (because that's what it is, an awesome and unique one though). Sadly they already gave so many to shitty movies like Titanic, Avatar, Dance with Wolves, etc. At least this time I can see two potentially great films (haven't seen them but I know they won't be too bad). Spotlight and The Revenant. From what I understand Spotlight it's a little too complex and touchy subject, and the Academy doesn't like that, best pictures are always feel good in a sense or enjoyable/pretty to look at, so I think The Revenant is the favorite here.

For best actor Leo has a good chance this time, but for movie it would go to the Martian I think. Tom Hardy and Stallone, both have good chance at winning supporting actors.

Yes I forgot, a very safe bet would be Best supporting Actor for Stallone, haven't seen Creed but if he is as good as they say, then it should be very sad for them to not give him the Oscar, even as a way of recognizing his long career.

For me The Martian is a very average movie and not very Oscar worthy so I wouldn't bet on it in any category.

I was thinking and both Best Director and Visual Effects would be great and safe options to bet on in my opinion. Visual effects is a almost a given but George Miller winning best director would not be a long shot with good odds, think of it as both consolation and career achievement prize.

There is still over a month to go, so there is no need to rush to make a bet at this early stage. I will probably make some bets after seeing who has won the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

That is almost certain than he would won at last. Not because The Revenant is something extraordinary and mind blowing - it is solid movie, just that.
It is rather that DiCaprio is great actor and he deserves the Oscar already. I will bet on him for sure.

This is great, Directbet is awesome and I see some great odds like George Miller / Best Director @ 4.8. Like I said I think this would be the only "big" nomination that Mad Max could actually win since he's a very respected director with a long career and this could be both a consolation prize and career achievement award.

The odds for Di Caprio are too low, almost nothing, I wouldn't risk my money, instead I would go for Michael Fassbender or Matt Damon, those are the roles the academy usually acknowledge. Redmayne has a shot there too but already won last year so I don't think he has many chances.

The thing is DiCaprio has quite a repertoire.

It would be funny if DiCaprio didn't win again. Its funny how he is one of the best Actors in hollywood and has never won as Oscar but other lame actors win year by year. Its staged most likely.

I think it is going to take Dicaprio the Oscars this time.

He has never won and I think that people gamble on him that he's going to win.

It's not staged but plenty of great actors face fierce competition when nominated but with a weaker part or movie. Other years they are not even nominated for perhaps they best work ever. In this case I think Di Caprio is actually the favorite.

I don't really care who or what movie wins, that's really lame because one cannot say one is "better" than the other, but nominations are cool and should be well considered, they are like achievements by themselves, the movies and technical work that stood out, no matter which one is actually the best one.

Never heard of it, frankly. But I think it is done well, but probably not so popular.
Maybe later we can gamble on more such shows.

Am I allowed to say that I thought Di Caprio was fine but not amazing in the revenant? I thought Tom Hardy gave a better performance but he did have more to work with. I can think of plenty of other actors who would've been as good.

I'm not sure I'd want to bet on Oscars. At least with sports you have some form to go on. The Oscars are totally subjective and it's decided by a few thousand old white guys with dementia.

But you must admit it would actually be fun and exciting. And also we would be watching Oscars as if we actually watch it.

You may be right but like I said I don't think Di Caprio has strong opposition this year compared to previous ones and that's why he is most likely to win. I think this internet/meme movement and cause is also a factor since the man has been paying its dues for years. Of course that doesn't guarantee him an Oscar but considering this year best actor nominations is clear why he is the favorite to get it.

I don't see any bets on DirectBet anymore, when I click on Oscars, I get this message: "The specified event could not be found."

I have watched all the nominated movies and can make my predictions and I don't think Spotlight will win it, its good but I find Revenant to be better.

I did not bet on DiCaprio 3 weeks ago when I thought the odds was too low. Now the odds is even a lot lower, and I was feeling a bit regretful lol. Anyway I will probably only bet on Stallone this year which I think has a high chance to win and a reasonably good odds.

Yeah, I don't see where he is seeing that either, the odds I see for Di Caprio currently are 1.02, almost non existent whilst the odds for Damon are 42 at DirectBet.

He is most definitely going to win the Oscars for The Revenant but would I consider that his best acting performance? I think he had done better roles than this and was not awarded anything, so this would make up for all the great performances he has given in all those movies.

I can't believe Leonardi Dicaprio hasn't won an Oscar yet, I haven't seen the Revenant yet but the guy deserved it for Wolf of Wall street last year, and im going to be really surprised if Matt Damon wins over him because he hasn't done any big roles lately that I know. I think they don't give him an oscar just for the sake of it at this point.

Well my picks are slightly different than yours but if you're right about Charlotte Rampling then you'll get 20x as she is currently the under dog.

Its sad to see that Sicario might end up not winning in any category, It was a great movie.

That's crazy low in my opinion and a worthless bet, so much on the line for nothing like you said. Some weeks ago it was actually a better option. I repeat that George Miller as Best Director for Mad Max has the best odds and a clear chance for winning due to his age and it could be some sort of achievement award (plus he definitely deserves it). Gonzalez Iñarritu did well but already got last year's Oscars and I don't think The Revenant is such a clear winner there or any other nomination for that matter.

That's seriously a bad bet, yes I know Leo will most likely win but risking 1 BTC to win 0.01? Come on, if it was such a sure thing they would already announce him as the winner! There's a lot of pressure to give him an Oscar and frankly this year he doesn't have that strong competition but I don't know, maybe they give it to the guy who won last year, Eddie Redmayne, it's like the new Jennifer Lawrence. Plus the juries love that kind of stuff.

I am also surprised that Sicario is not even nominated. I really like this movie. As for the Spotlight - I do not think that so controversial movie can get Oscar. The fact that he was nominated, for me is a very big surprise. ( I mean, because of the influence of the Church..)
In my opinion Oscar for the best movie will get The Martian. This is the first movie (as i know) with action in space that is neither a documentary nor fantastic, and besides, is very interesting.

Not way The Martian gets anything, it sucked ass sorry, predictable and boring Hollywood that has been done much better in Gravity and Castaway (I didn't even like that one...but still). I do agree on Sicario and Spotlight, Sicario was amazing and Benicio Del Toro should've been at least nominated, at least it got 4 nominations I think. Spotlight was ok, I think it was controversial back then but right now the story is a little too common (sadly) to have the same impact. Either way I don't think it'll win, not because the Oscars wouldn't like it, but because it's doesn't really deserve it, perhaps it could get some love in other categories.

I am so happy for DiCaprio winning his first Oscar and his speech watered my eyes a little bit it was so beautiful lol  ;D And Mad Max got so many awards too I really enjoyed going to the cinema for that movie it was great.

Many people was betting on Di caprio. And they will get some a lot of money. Because he won.
Everyone was surprised, but finally he won the oscars after 6 times. So it is good to gamble on oscars it is quite hard to predict.

I think its good that people bet on Di caprio but if you think about the fact a lot people did it the odds will be low in my opinion right ?
So I think there will some people that win a lot of money but also some people that will not win a lot only a little bit of money.

Too bad I was not able to bet on Di Caprio for the Best Actor award as I had this second thought that he will not bag the award. Why do I have this sudden feeling that this Oscars event is made for him to win his first award?

Honestly, the odds of him winning were so high, the payout wasn't much. I think the odds were around 1.15 or maybe even lower, so you didn't miss out on too much. I was going to bet on Leo, but I decided that the payout wasn't worth it.

Yea, the people went for the sympathy vote on that one. If you looked at his statistics, you might think a 1:15 should have been crazy. It is like looking at a baseball game, and knowing the home team will just get that extra bit of sympathy from the ref. < He also knows he will get mobbed attacked, if the home team lose >
