Title: The average user just want's Bitcoin to work!!!!!
Post by: calkob on January 23, 2016, 10:59:19 PM
The average non technical user just wants bitcoin to work, and work well.  We believe in the technology and in the expertise of those who invented it and continue to develop it.  But we may not have the technical knowledge to give an in-depth explanation as to weather we want 2mb blocks or 8mb blocks, or for things to stay as they are.

but as i said we just want it to work and everyone arguing over the details is not working......  Yes i understand that people have differences of opinion on the way forward, but everyone lets not destroy this one chance to make a massive difference in the world....

How do you expect people to find a solution without argueing ideas first?

I agree with the sentiment. Just stop the quibbling over minor details and get the shit working smoothly.

Sick and tired of listening to it already.

I was just looking at the transaction growth as a function of time and it's almost looking more like an exponential fit than linear. Though, I haven't played with any best fit lines.

Regardless, it's obvious that a lot of people have a lot invested in all of this. This is how it should be with a currency. They sustain absolutely every transaction in society. It needs to be right. It would be nice if people were this interested in the primary currency they use like the dollar. Likewise, they have a lot invested in it.

Don't worry! If the Bitcoin Classic coup is successful, and bitcoin as we know it is destroyed, there are more than a dozen other digital currencies ready to take its place. Each new entrant will learn from the mistakes of its predecessor, thereby allowing/encouraging these new and emerging currencies to innovate and evolve.

In many governments, there is a healthy separation between church and state. In cryptocurrency, we need separation between development and third-party businesses. If you look at the current problems facing core, the main issues are conflicts of interest which hamper benevolent decision making.

If core moves to 2MB blocks, then the need for Blockstream's lightning network diminishes. By keeping the blocksize at 1MB, then the need for Blockstream increases. So this mother of all business conflicts threatens to undermine the entire bitcoin economy.

Will Core do the right thing, or will they watch as the entire bitcoin economy goes up in smoke? Only time will tell.

You don't necessarily have to be technical to participate in discussions or simply ask questions. Most of the disagreements usually boil down to different visions or principles, so something that even non-tech users can have opinion on.

No, my friend. We want much more than that.

BTC is working quite well right now, but to feel confident towards the future, we need to be sure that BTC can scale. If we look at social networks, snapchat or instagram, those services have seen their users grow exponentially, millions new people, in only a few weeks. BTC is very, very small at this time. Barely 200,000 transactions per day. What would happen if this jumps to one million each day? Imagine 1% of all Facebook users doing one BTC transaction every day? The network couldn't handle it.

The fact that BTC works today hardly matters, if it's going to fail tomorrow.

I dont think there is any "average users" of bitcoin who are only interested to spend bitcoin.Bitcoin is still seen by all its users as long term or short term investment.Unlike fiat, bitcoin users are more cautious when it comes to spending

I am just an average user of Bitcoin. I may not know every intricate thing about the crypto currency but I expect my transactions at the coffee shop to confirm in under 10 minutes.

Not like this. The coffee shops don't require one confirmation. Once you send the money, you will get the products right away.

When will people start to realize that you don't need confirmations for small purchases like this? Once it is transmitted it is enough for a couple dollar purchase to be accepted by the shop.

No one will make you wait for 10 minutes. If you need to wait, it will be for bigger purchases, and than you are prepared for it and willing to wait anyway.

Well, all the non-technical people do find it very hard to understand the core development activities in Bitcoin Core. I myself am one of them, but to be honest it doesn't mean that there isn't an effort made to understand the concept behind it and how it functions.

For the millionth time, answer: then why are you here?

If all these people and their opinions don't matter, then why do you spend all day and all night, every day, trying to convince them that your bullshit tastes good in a sandwich?

btc is a property of "all user", and in the same time everyone could take "a part" of it.
mike words doesn't have impact, therefore they have an impact only in him coins, that probably he sell (and how we can trust that he sell all / buy again?)
I think this could be another marketing move to improve "stake" and buy more coins ;)

The average Bitcoiner still get loads of value for their investment and when they spend it, the transactions is still cheaper than any other payment

method out there. {That is to say, if they not using 3rd party services and paying extra fees} The average Bitcoin user should not have to worry about

block sizes and hash rates.... They should just have the confidence to invest in it or spend it on a daily basis. Whilst the developers are fighting over the

details and who will get the power.... most people just read the news and see Bitcoin has failed.

When you meet bitcoin first time everything looks complicated , but soon you realize
how easy to use and how good is this idea!
As money is perfect! As investment more then good! And community support is fascinating!

I think I understand the point you're trying to convey but without constructive criticism we would not get to a point with What's Best For Everyone.Since this is an open source community, there are more chances of what being concluded by a number of enthusiasts being actually implemented. All the advancements for "Not-So-Technical" users will be made through such discussions only. You can't expect to harness the power of a windmill without knowing how it works.

Yeah not all of us are tech savy. Most of us just want to pay and accept payments with bitcoin.
For me it is not different honestly.

I'm above average.

I want it to work for the below average user.

That's the only way it will ever be as ubiquitous as PayPal.

As ubiquitous as PayPal would be very profitable for me.

You can't expect to harness the power of a windmill without knowing how it works.

I doubt that any normal customer of a bank knows how a ATM works on the inside. They want to walk up to a ATM and just use it to deposit cash or to withdraw money. They seldom know how money is transferred between banks <Swift> and that not all money in their accounts are stored in the local vault.

This must be the same for the average Bitcoin users to make it easy for them to use the currency or the other features like Smart contracts.

First time I met bitcoin, I thought it was going to be just another one of those ecash attempts, I looked at it with negative bias, but within an hour I was in love because it was such a beautiful and pure concept.

I did have some confusion over what the term "wallet" meant but not about bitcoin itself.

To me, a wallet is a place where you store representations of value - cash - dollar bills - that don't change. That's why I had trouble, bitcoin doesn't have those. What it has is transactions, and private keys that prove you have the right to use an output from a transaction as an input in another transaction.

Transactions are a different concept than cash, I still have trouble when people call bitcoin "digital cash" or "Internet cash" because I do not see a concept of cash in bitcoin, Just transactions and cryptograpghy.

But I see things differently than most people.

If you are confused about block sizes, then according to what I understand, I think they are being increased in order to gather more transactions as before to get them confirmed faster, but yeah, with this, time will be increased for each block to get found...

Now about an average Joe, yeah, there are some technical terms that everyone, mostly who aren't tech geeks, are unfamiliar with, and what they basically understand is, BTC is money and it should work like the same...
