Satoshi is the smallest division of BTC.

1 satoshi = 0.00000001 BTC

Also:

Why do people talk in satoshi
B'coz it's a/the unit of bitcoin.
how much is a satoshi worth?
1 satoshi = 0.00000001BTC
= 0.00001mBTC
= 0.01 uBTC
What are satoshi is it a unit?
Basically, satoshi (http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3) was/is the founder of bitcoin & henceforth their name is also the "unit" of bitcoin.
P.S. It's like Newton discovered about "Force" & henceforth the S.I. unit of force is "Newton (N)"

The way I think of it is just like I would with a dollar. If 1 Bitcoin is similar to 1 dollar, than a satoshi is like a penny. Except a satoshi is a much much smaller fraction of a Bitcoin than a penny is to a dollar.

So a penny is 0.01 of a dollar.

And a satoshi is 0.00000001 of a bitcoin.

That is about all there is to it. So if you want to know how much a satoshi is worth in dollars than just use this:

Current Price of Bitcoin in Dollars * 0.00000001 = Value of a Satoshi In Dollars

Pretty simple stuff.

Satoshi is the person or entity that idealized Bitcoin.

It is also the smallest Bitcoin subdivision right now, equivalent to 0.0000001 BTC, or almost nothing right now
