Title: ltc gpu mining
Post by: parsa2011 on January 01, 2013, 10:43:42 PM
hello there
it my first post here but i had read many of threads

im new to btc and ltc and i have a few questions:

1- is it possible to mine ltc with gpu?
2- is the process of mining the same for ltc and btc? i mean for example if your hash rate is 200 kh/s you will get same result for mining or not? or its better to ask hardware with same hash rates have the same efficiency mining btc and ltc?
3-the hash rates mentioned  https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison) can be used in calculators for ltc?

If you are interested in mining LTC, you should take a look at the LTC forums: http://forum.litecoin.net/index.php/board,3.0.html

The answers to your questions are yes, no, no.

#1; Yes, you can mine LTC with a GPU using CGminer/Reaper software.
#2; If you mine BTC @1Gh/s, you will mine LTC  @~1Mh/s
#3; No, there is a Litecoin specific calculator

It depends a lot of the cryptocurrency price fluctuations and electricity prices. There's a chance you won't be able to earn back your investment at all.

Well you could game on your computer if you had a card like a 7990.  This would let you use all the money you were planning on spending on a PS3 towards a card.

Well, if that's not a typo, you would remain profitable much longer than the average miner seeing as you pay 1/10th the average for power.

With 2 7990's you would have a bad ass gaming 'puter, which would continue to play the most GPU intensive games for quite a while. Unfortunately, I don't think you can do 6-way CF.

tanx for comments
i dont have the 7990 at the moment i've planned to upgrade my pc , buy a ps3 for my little brother as a new year gift and buy an iphone 5 for myself
well he would play game max 2hours per day so i want to see if it worth to buy a pc with higher configs and make some money beside these all and have the money back for iphone ( i assume it would take up to iphone 6 ) and ps3

The likelihood of you making all of your money back from a 7990 is very slim.  I bought a 7970 for gaming.  When I'm not gaming I mine which gets me about $70 a month.  I've just broke even as I bought one when it first came out, but soon I'm not going to be making any money because of ASICs.

i think if such things start mining it will effect difficulty level and make it much difficult to mine so the value of btc will became higher and though you will mine less coins but you will make around the 70$  you are making now
