Title: Current Sentiment Poll
Post by: afbitcoins on January 29, 2016, 04:05:57 PM
Just curious what peeps are thinking is in store for bitcoin. Where is bitcoin heading in 2016?

bearing in mind we are still only in January just now.

Wow a kwuckduck vote already, wonder if that was from the actual kwuckduck?

Megabubble at some point.  Most likely lower before higher though.  It may even crash to crazy levels before starting run.  I think this blocksize debate will resolved with a combo of Bitcoin Classic and Segwit.  Wasn't it Jeff Garzik tweeting that 2MB hard fork will be out before end of January?

I could see insane crashes during the implementation process but then extreme strength when everyone realizes that everything works and now we have much greater capacity.

Plus then of course the halving effect.

Whats your vote AF?

no new ATH till well after the halving + some form of doubling of capacity + nodes making full use of BIP9

750-500 $ range for most of 2016

It will take 4-6 months before market can digest the halving effect. I'm predicting $600 in November/December, not before. $600 will be the top for the year.

i think price is going to be totally reliant on how the block size debate ends. it might even negate the halving effect to some extent.

Wow a kwuckduck vote already, wonder if that was from the actual kwuckduck?

kwuck is always ducking around here from the beginning of the time. :D

Most likely by the end of the year it will reach up to $700 at most (as if everything goes it's way - best case scenario).

1. Issues getting sorted out √
2. Halving near √
3. Increase in demand (overall not late events of dumping) √

Base on those (I might have missed some) it will surely be an upscale going toward the end of 2016.

I see two possible scenarios

1) Issues get solved, then a big raise happens due to euphoria, although a doubt an all time high

2) Issues are not solved, so it slowly scales to 450-500 again, perhaps sustaining that value.

i'm between, "there will be a megabubble, but since everybody expect it, maybe actually there will not be any megabubble" and "there will be a price increase with multiple bubble, until we break the last ath"....

I think this year will be solid but unspectacular with a side order of potential chaos if we all go fork crazy.

I used to think Bitcoin would reach a new ATH, but I lowered my prediction to a new high of $700 this year. That's why I vote for the option ; will rise but not reach all time high.

This is an interesting and very good way to have real data about something (whatever can be). Very different from these threads who tell: will be 560 us dollar or will reach 987 us dollar. Very different even from those which ask fixed price. Having reasonable options to chose is a scientific tool which measure with acceptable precision (the amount of which depends only by the number of votes) the "humor" and the expectations of the people of bitcoin. Its interesting to see the results of this poll and it would be better that OP first and all the others find ways to spread it as much as it would be possible. More are the voters more everyone will know the overall thoughts of our community. Its interesting to read even the arguments which might give everyone regarding its choice. I can tell that I voted the second option and don't have any particular argument in favor of my choice. It is only (as it told by OP) what I feel about the possible price after halving. I hope to have big wrong and what I feel be a big mistake.  :D

Thanks, yes I hope results could be quite revealing

I'm fully expecting a "Megabubble this year fueled by halving mania". There is just too much going on around bitcoin at the moment and the trend is still clearly pointing upwards. We faced some bad news and corrections, but that is to be expected. It is about time we got a good hype again that pushes the price of bitcoin and altcoins to previously unheard of levels.

Bitcoin will hit 1800 this year is my expectation, and litecoin will go to around 80. Other coins probably rise in the same percent range as litecoin, with some exceptions of hyped coins.
Imo this will be an interesting and fruitful year!

I think there will be a massive pre halving pump that will cause the price to possibly come close to $800-$900. It will however not last long as the price will come down to $500-$600 after all the dumping of coins that people have been saving up.

I thought Bitcoin halving speculation gives us new ATH but I think that's not possible anymore. Price is too low for 2016. I think it will rise but not reach all time high this year. Maybe 700-800$ will be the new band.

Lol Kwukduck.  I don't think things will be that bad by any stretch of the imagination, but sentiment is pretty bleak lately.  Who knows, though?  We could have the best year yet with a little bit of good news.  Look what happened with all of those altcoins recently.  We might have some really great trading days--but hopefully not as volatile as the altcoin market.

it is really hard to speculate with all the drama which is surrounding bitcoin these days. the market can go either way depending on how things turn out to be like. if the drama gets bigger it can even go down.

but if it is solved, especially around the halving time, i would expect a mega-bubble happening very easily in a short time hence reaching a new all time high.

Title: Re: Current Sentiment Poll

Obviously bitcoin's price will rise upto a greater extent what is until now.
After the next reward halving it will soon reach a price of $850 and might stay there until December when it will lower its limit due to most hoarders selling them for buying holiday gifts.

In general bitcoin is at a stable and a significant position as of now.
So I think there is no need to worry about other speculations and discussions regarding Bitcoin Classic, although it might take another year to fully implement those phenomenal changes.

So lets just forget all those controversies and enjoy the fruits of Satoshi's tree. :D

I think we have already seen the pre-halving bump.

Halving is not at question, it has virtually a 100% probability of happening.

So, the market should already have priced this event in.

I do anticipate continued accumulation from Chinese, American, and European investors.  This will result in a steady rise, not spikes.

Not sure  ??? Thought it was open to all. Maybe its to stop people creating sock puppet accounts to bias the result with multiple votes ?

Thanks for all responses so far. If you haven't voted yet. come on tell us what you think.

I voted bearish, will reach $100.

I wish i had other options, like - will drop to $250.

I can settle for Flat and range bound. Seems reasonable.

Any way, very telling that 53% + are bullish. To me, that is a bad sign.

I've changed that option to 'price will fall' rather than naming a price, I didn't really mean $100 as a target although thats how it sounded. Anyway, I'll let the poll run as is, although modifiying options is probably not good.

Bulls winning so far, not sure if thats a bullish signal or contrarian bearish   :-\

I have seen a lot people turn from ultra bullish to just bullish on the edge of being bearish lately. There were a lot people posting stuff like the price will rise to $1000 and even $2000 after the block halving. These people lowered their tone significantly.

I suppose people are a bit more cautious about all the scalability squabbling and possible branching of the blockchain. And that Mike Hearn stuff. Although being honest had anyone even heard of Mike Hearn before he stormed out like that?

To me it seems we've reach a moment where the price slowly will go back to old price.
I don't expect the price to go up again. not before the halving.

It will rise for a while but will dip again bringing the miners no longer profitable due to halving.

Kwuckduck is always hardcore bearish, for example.

Bitcoin doesn't scale.
Mining operations are becoming more and more centralized.
Mining is an inefficient wasteful and toxic process for the environment.
The vast majority of coins is owned by a hand full of people.
Confirmations are too slow for every day use.
Transactions are fully traceable,  not anonymous.
Need I go on?

I guess the kwuckduck vote is supposed to mean bitcoin will completely fail.

Just over 10 days of voting left. At this time majority say price will rise but not reach all time high this year.

Do you agree?

If you take the proportion of people that hink that price will increase and the one of people that think that it won't increase, the feeling is easy to spot and that's even more clear. This will be definitly entertaining to watch this halving 8) !

Compared to the starting price of ~$230, I think we will be staying mostly above that for the year.  My guess is we'll end up topping out in the $600 area, with a lot of mini-bubbles and crashes along the way.  An ATH is possible, but I just don't see the same energy that we had for the last bubble that made it possible.

The halving is a coinflip, but I'm not betting on us shooting up because of it.
