So why "bitcoins" out of all the other alternatives? I am just curious?

because bitcoin is the first born of all existing altcoins.

ALTcoins means ALTernative coins that is alternative to BTCitcoins as BTCitcoin was the first cryptocurrency.

because bitcoin is the biggest one with the best support and network effect.

litecoin is the second. people say that bitcoin is like gold and litecoin is like silver.  :)

Well, the secret of a coin is the acceptance. Bitcoin is accepted at most. This is the reason why it has a higher market cap and transaction / trading volume than most other alternative coins.

the question should not be, why bitcoin is better than any other, since bitcoin is not an altcoin

the real question should be, what other alt have to offer that is better than bitcoin? nothing...

Only after considering the technology behind bitcoin those other alternative came into existence to compete. This itself the reason why to bitcoin and not the other alternatives

I think it is because the bitcoin is the first and biggest coin with very big user community. Many people know about the coin.

 For something so new and disruptive there's a lot of trust that needs to be earned. Bitcoin has that because it's had by far the most use and abuse. Every day it keeps on functioning grows the trust that people have in it. You can't replicate that trust or transfer it across to another coin. That's why it's going to be ever harder to dislodge it as the number one and that's why it's worth so much more than anything else.

I agree with you. bitcoin is the first online coin and it's make other altcoins born because bitcoin. and the price of bitcoin really high compare than other altcoins.

it is simply because the first cryptocurrecny that became popular (both in number of people using it and the price) was bitcoin and after that because bitcoin is open source everybody started copying the code and with some small/big changes create an alternative (hence altcoin) and publish.

bullshit, faster transaction speeds and automatic mixing are some features that some altcoins offer

yeah sure, the first increase the orphan rate, and it's not needed, merchants can already accept zero conf, it's secure enough, with malleability fix will be even better

mixing is not an intrinsic altcoin property, it cna be done with any coin, with sidechain you will be able to do it with token easily...

Because bitcoin is a widely accepted cryptocurrency. Many common people never have heard of other cryptocurrencies at all.

Nevertheless all cryptocurrencies are volatile but still bitcoin's price is more or less stable than the other coins where the price can go up or down at any second!

altcoins are clones with extra features. but these extra features despite being interesting an seemingly useful, in fact they could not attract investors and people to use them as much as they use bitcoin.

who says bitcoin ? only newbies.People who have experience in crypto's will always diversify their money/investments.Dash and litecoin move from 3-5$ and ether has been a successful project as well.Gambling has a huge role in bitcoin's popularity and value.Now dont make a thread saying "why crypto"..lol

The price of Bitcoins is the most among other cryptocurrencies. This is due to faith and trust that people have in it.

I wouldn't say all altcoins are clones from bitcoin.  There are other coins that pose different purposes now and days, and are different from the original alts like litecoin.  You have serious contenders now that give different purposes from the generic bitcoin code, like Ethereum, Monero, etc.  There are other coins like it, but you have to be careful because some of these coins are heavily pre-mined/instamined/ninjamined (whatever you want to call it really).

But bitcoin is the most widely accepted and used because it was the first one on the scene and hasn't looked back sense.

Maybe because it was the very first cryptocurrency and also because of its higher value.

Everyone's pretty much said it all, bitcoin is the OG in cryptocurrency.  I might also add that in being the first, it was the first to have a massive price increase, which brought tons of people into it.  As it sustained much of those gains (it's at $390 as I write this), people have stuck with it.  It's the one that always makes the news--when you hear about altcoins on CNN or MSNBC, then you'll know they've arrived.  Til then, they're just wannabees, even if some of them can be very useful.

It is obvious early adopters are standing behind bitcoin!

I still have no idea about other alt coins roaming around the community, so that is why I am using bitcoin, besides, more and more are offering bitcoin in transactions, compared to altcoins.. :)

I don't think so! Many of those coins have great potential and maybe some other purposes.
Internet is large place so we can expect many tokens in future.
Many of them will be on blockchain also.
