Anyone have concrete numbers on mining efficiency for windows vs linux?  I'm planning to get a mining rig, but not sure if I should go with windows or linux? if the efficiency is similar, I'm willing to sacrifice up to 5% efficiency for the ease of set up and use with windows gui miner.

If you aren't a Linux user...

the windows hashrate and ease of set up is much more preferred, not to mention most of the (better) OC tools are also on windows.

I only use Linux for 2 major things, aside from the very small % hashrate increase.

I need SSH, ssh allows me to remotely restart miners, check tempature, set OC and other tech related stuff.
Hashkill allows me to run multi-gpu configurations with 1 miner instance.

Linux overclocking is slightly more difficult if you're used to windows. The difference seems to be minor, you get more of a difference almost between which mining software than which operating system in my experience. Maybe I'll be kicking myself in 15 years that I didn't get that extra .03 BTC, but oh well.

Is Hashkill better for linux than phatck?

I have a technet subscriptions so Windows installs are basically free for me, but I am also reasonably competent with *nix OS's.

At this point I just wander if it's worth taking a day to reconfigure for ubuntu.

I don't have exact numbers, but I probably got another 5-10Mhash/s out of my sapphire 5830 (currently at 265 Mhah/s) by switching to linux. I only used windows in the beginning to experiment with bitcoin mining. Linux is much easier to deploy and manage on multiple systems.
