Putin’s Internet Counselor: Accepting Bitcoin is a Crime

German Klimenko, Vladimir Putin’s internet counselor assigned to the position by the Russian president in early 2016, stated in an interview to local news service Lenta.ru that accepting bitcoin is a crime.

“Bitcoin is not the first one, there are other settlement means. Accepting bitcoin as a payment for anything is inacceptable because it is a crime. Just because payments within the Russian Federation are accepted in rubles. Non taxed financial transactions could be considered a crime under the law of several countries but bitcoin is so different than traditional payment means that such confusions might exist. Good thing is that there's very little governments can do to stop citizens from using it.
