It just seems like left and right, everyone is just making fun of us and doesn't even take us seriously. Seth MacFarlane made fun of Bitcoin in Family Guy having Peter ironically mention the currency, when the scene clearly made him say that because it won't work for their money situation. (For the record, I didn't think the joke was that funny. Not because they were implying Bitcoin was a crappy way to get rich, but because I just found it lame).

Then Jenna marbles went off to implying anyone that uses Bitcoin is a nerdy perverted creep.....again, joke wasn't funny. Not because of Bitcoin, but because it was lame.


To be honest, I'm so over it but I am slowly coming to terms with it and just accepting that we are indeed the laughing stock of the internet.

Opinions on the situation would be cool. What do you think we should do?

Well if you're so over it then why post a new topic about it, codishmumu, Gr33k?  Don't you have an engagement--sorry, legal slavery--to be involved in, and real life?  I thought you gave up trolling this forum because you were so busy.

You've probably been the butt of jokes yourself and that's why you're feeling so sensitive, so I would suggest that you just roll with it.  Bitcoin has a thicker skin than you think, so let the haters hate.

If you think Jenna Marbles is expert in the bitcoin field - or any other field beside creating entertaining youtube videos you are being delusional, ignore her.
She doesn't know what she is talking about as she is clearly cryptocurrency noob.

Same goes for Family Guy - as I love the show but again, it is satirical comedy, take Family Guy with a little grain of salt.

Why don't they laugh about Silk Road, many various scams, & the huge exchanges that ran with all of our funds?

the joke and now some of the biggest banks in the world are scrambling to copy our technology. There must be something behind it, if Billions are invested into Bitcoin

related technology... more than what can be said about dog toys or cartoons.

the fact that people are making fun of bitcoin, for example in a tv show as popular as Family Guy that has been around for so many years, just shows that bitcoin is becoming more popular. i don't see any reason to be sad about. you should be glad that bitcoin is being noticed and not just being used by nerds in their basements.

Actually I think we're already at the "they fight you" stage, lots of government restrictions on exchanges, russia proposing to charge users who deal in bitcoins, devs fighting each other and based on that I hope we'll win at the next stage.

exactly.  whether or not it seems like they are making fun of it, it is good press.  Gets the word "Bitcoin" out there.  Derek Zoolander said that Bitcoin is is favorite style in his faux interview with Vogue.  Hilarious and great for Bitcoin. I thought the Peter comment was funny and loved hearing Bitcoin on Family Guy.

Sad truth is, bitcoin has gained a cult-like following. Last time someone asked here why there are so many conspiracy theorists here the answer was that paranoid people are attracted to bitcoin by nature... Don't worry though, those that making fun of bitcoiners are stereotyping the entire community just by looking at a few jokers.

It's true. I was in a bar in rural Tajikistan last night. Every single joke was about Bitcoin. Eight solid hours of Bitcoin jokes really started to get on my nerves so I had to leave and seek some peace in Vanuatu. The pilot just spouted Bitcoin jokes the whole fucking flight while the passengers rolled in the aisles and no one would refund me.

Yes. Exactly. I'm not actually genuinely getting upset as I know they do not know all of us personally. I do understand some of us have that mentality, but it's not consistent. It's like saying anyone who uses welfare is spending it on drugs.

On behalf of them and your frustration, I'm going to apologize for them even though I don't know any of them personally. My fiancé and I actually went out last night and heard a couple people discussing Bitcoin. Saying it was for criminals, crooks, nerds in the basement, socially awkward people that can't show their faces and have to hide behind anonymity. My goodness. They talked so much negativity. I could go on for hours to mention everything she and I heard that really would have made you punch a wall. I won't though....


My fiancé is also into Bitcoin now, and its usually quite staggering when trying to get more people involved. Family is the first to turn to, and she was more than open to it. I do recommend getting to talk to family to join the movement as family naturally trusts each other more often.   :D

I don't care whether people are making fun of bitcoin or not. What matters most to me are the benefits and the convenience that I get from bitcoins. Whoever has issues with bitcoin should look for Satoshi Nakamoto and square out with him.
