Title: Firefox Not Working? Suggestions?
Post by: jackg on February 13, 2016, 08:43:23 PM
I started Firefox.exe process.
I then typed tasklist into CMD (command prompt) and got back that firefox was running as a console process.
I then typed it in again (a few minutes later) and got back that it was no longer there as a running process.

Does anyone know how this occurs and how to fix it (I have used systems like symantec power erasor and virus scanner so checked if it worked by uninstalling and reinstalling firefox, ,but still no luck)?

Thanks in advance for the help, it is appreciated.

BECAUSE CHROME IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM! (I believe)

I have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox twice (rebooting after uninstall).

It still isn't working.

I then tried to end the process "chrome.exe" from the command line.

I ran
Code:
taskkill /im chrome.exe /f

I got a successful removal of all 6 processes.

I then ran
Code:
tasklist
and found that it has loaded back up again.

I then tried to uninstall it andit told me to close it.

The trick with Firefox is not to upgrade right away, quite often they have a glitch that goes unknown and you end up finding out after a few days. Can always run the version you had before and that should solve the issue till any issue is fixed.
Think a few years ago Firefox made adjustments that made it impossible for people to play Travian and going back one version solved the issue till they fixed it.

Well that is problematic for me.
I uninstalled and reinstalled it as stated.
But thanks anyway.

I have had problems with firefox too. I noticed it had an update yesterday too. It works fine though.
Internet explorer seems not to like it too much, but when things don't work in firefox like java apps, they work fine in internet explorer. Weird.

Uninstall and reinstalling is the universal solution for all software and apps.

Hold down "ctrl" "alt" and "del". Then click on task manager and close all Firefox and chrome processes. Remove all Firefox extensions before uninstalling it. Repeat the process with chrome.

That chrome doesn't have an uninstller (I'll have a closer look at the folder though)!

probably the problem is inside OS.

did you have tried chrome?

edit
try to re install your OS don't touch .exe

I may have something that may be something to do with the problem.

(from Norton)

We have detected a large amount of outbound traffic on your system.

I will try running Norton Power Eraser again.

And if you had read the entire thread, you would find I have done this!

This is a standard that everyone would run off.

The question still stands as it is still not working.

Backup your important files, reformat your hard drive and reinstall windows. Download and install Firefox using Internet Explorer. I am 100% this one will surely work.

I suggest getting rid of Firefox all together. A better software such as Google Chrome is well worth it

Okay, can we please stop suggesting google chrome. This is getting very annoying.

1. Firefox is better
2. Firefox is faster
3. Firefox did not get killed by my Antivirus for getting to many viruses in its source code from hackers.

I suggest you try Firefox and see how good it is!

(though google chrome has the help of google).

Yes, that could work, but... It would take me 5 days of continuous work.

Why not try to completely remove all register components. You can try to use revo uninstaller and you got an easy list where you can decide if you remove all of part of the installation. Good luck with it http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html (http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html)

Firefox often crashes every day. I don't know what's wrong with it and I have stopped the java scripts.

Thanks I tried that but it seems to use the same as windows protocols for removing files according to the norton forum.
Anyway, it still didn't seem to work.

I cannot do that really, maybe I should delete everyting on my drive related remotely to firefox (from the mozilla folder and the app-data folder and do a complete reinstallation after deleting protocols, profiles, libs, extenstions, bookmarks, personalisation).

So you can't find any files anymore linked to Firefox if you scan the computer. After you did full normal you could reinstall Firefox.
