Any Canadian bitcoin buyers or sellers try Virtex Exchange yet?
https://www.cavirtex.com/home

Seems his site is very very new, domain registered June 3/11. Anyone try this one yet? I'd be nice to have a simple automated service comparable to Mt.Gox for Canadians....

If there's any other services like this, for Canada (other than Nanimao gold) lemme know.

You can talk to the devs in #bitcoin-cad on the freenode IRC network.  Grady2000 is friendly and part of the project.

This is exactly what I've been looking for, for a while now.

I'm going to try depositing later this evening and see how it goes.

This is awesome, but slight problems, system let's you buy/withdraw up to $10k no ID however crappy Canadian law is max $1999 per transaction and you have to take ID

Also this site is not set up to prevent fraud. Places like carder.pro have 1200 TD bank logins for sale where anybody can sign in and send an Interac Email payment. 1hr later receive untraceable currency, a carders goldmine.

Another problem.. cash deposits he doesn't ask for a receipt scan. You can easily scam people on craigslist and other sites to go make a cash deposit and fund your BTC account.. make off with the funds (every LR site requests scans or fax of receipt to prevent auction fraud)

Yet another problem.. Moneymart doesn't allow 3rd party loads of cards I already tried :X .. instead there's nishecards and other cdn reloadable debit cards he can use which are more anonymous

Finallly... 1and1.com it's host doesn't do DDOS protection. Every currency site get's DOSd eventually by competitors.

So basically if the 15 F/T carder sites I know of with ~3200 members each of pro fraudsters get wind of this, they will be raping it like a boss

It's a good thing you mentioned all that stuff, then. Hopefully they can secure the site a bit more. I'm sure they're still working out all the details of what's required to operate a "legal" exchange in Canada.

Yeah, volume says 32 bit coins... Room to grow.... I hope they nail it down, would be absolutely great to have a painless service like this.

Not bad. Hope it catches on. I'd love to be able to use BTC to send funds back to my Canadian bank accounts without having to convert to USD first and pay wire fees.

I tried it out, xfered a few bit coins to the addy it give you...

Took about an hour to show - probably waiting for confirmation.
Selling at the same price as buyers it was instant.
Now... just waiting for my email money transfer...

Sent them $100 via direct deposit today. The money was online by the time I got home from the bank, which is impressive. I was also able to speak with the owner on the phone and he helped me through the whole process.

I made a few purchases. I quickly found out that orders only go through when you bid over the lowest ask price. You do, however, get the BTC at the lowest ask price. For some reason the system allows two orders at the same price and opposite sides of the market to co-exist. The owner told me they're working on this.

I haven't been able to withdraw the Bitcoins I purchased yet. That part of the system didn't work for me. I assume they're honest though and that'll just take time.

Update: I've been able to withdraw my Bitcoins (http://blockexplorer.com/tx/a3e450d0d8ba939b9eb1d31df7b8685e7808362eb00f21476b050a44b2d1c460#o1). Virtex is completely legit.

Yeah, was down for a bit last night.

I looked it up, 1and1 DOES do DDOS protection. .

At any rate, I got my payout email money transfer. He did take the 1.50 for the transfer but counts as a bank fee.

This looks really promising, but my bank does not yet support Interac epayments.  Is direct deposit dangerous?

This site works as advertised:

I used the service with Interac e-mail - money was deposited in 1.5 hours - website says 1 - 3 hours.   :)

Bitcoins purchased without a glitch.  :)

Trade volume definately seems light - hopefully this will pickup when more people join.

No transaction fees (for now) are really nice!  :)

I should clarify my question.  Would it be dangerous to input the required banking information to my virtex account for the purpose of withdrawing money from virtex to my bank?

Now if only the people who praised the service had post counts in the double or triple digits.. :| I would love to use VirtEx but I'm not convinced.

I'd love to give this a shot, because it provides a more permanent solution for me. I'm with Tolkien though: not until someone else with good rep gives it a shot.

Sorry my post count is low, I've been trolling here for a long time, finally needed to make an account to get some help from Tycho

I've used this service to start moving my coin -> CDN

Pro's
--------------
- trades worked like clock work, have done several trades, my account and the interface is updated instantly
- transferring bitcoin to the account worked without issue, just like any other bitcoin transaction it takes time to get verified
- transfer via e-interact was very smooth < 1 hr to get the money into my bank account
- IRC channel #bitcoin-cad provides help
- Grady2000 has an established reputation on #bitcoin-otc

Con's
--------------
- site was down a little at the start but hasn't been a problem lately
- could use some more liquidity but that will come with time, right now Mt Gox can move significantly and the leaves my sell order blowing in the wind at a significant loss

Hah, No one w/ triple digits has tried it yet - probably because its so new.

I tried it w/ like 5 bit coins. Sold, and in the bank. It let me buy a new PSU for another rig.
I understand the skeptics, considering the scamming going on - still worth keeping an eye on.

Really, i *just* started mining and i was looking for a place to sell my first coin to see that mining can actually make some money, it worked out so i put together a mining rig today. Unfortunately my post count is a little low but that’s because i was made aware of Virtex through this post and figured i would join the community (was going to have to eventually) and give my 2 cents about the service.

I do understand that you more seasoned guys might be a little hesitant, but just give it a shot ... throw one coin in there and see how it goes and then maybe you could try 2 or 5 ... iunno but someone has to give it shot, with a double or triple digits, so the rest of the community feels safer and this site can grow and us Canadians can actually join the mining craze.

Sending 1 coin. Lets try this out....

Title: Re: Any Canadian bitcoin buyers or sellers try Virtex Exchange yet?
Post by: rgod14 on June 11, 2011, 02:32:59 AM
6 confirmed blocks (about 45 min) and the btc showed up. Selling it was stupid easy, put the amount you want to sell and the dollar amount. I happened to sell mine instantly as someone entered an order to bring up the price to the ask price. Withdrawing as we speak......will let you all know......

Update: Received the email about an hour after request. $25 more bucks sitting in my bank account. Seems legit to me.....hoping this sticks around and the volume gets going as I'm sick of getting hosed on currency conversion when CAD > USD.

Hi guys!

I was the very first guy to use VirtEX, on June the 9th.  :D

Called Joseph from VirtEX on the phone, we had nice chat. He's a well-spoken Albertan who went out of his way to help me.

Sold a couple dozen BTC and even though their site is beta,  I was able to trade without significant issues. Got paid through interac, it worked perfectly.

They are still working on the site, not all features are working yet. Basic depositing and trading BTC was very smooth in my experience. Highly recommended.

I'm very glad to see a Canadian exchange spring up.  Nice also to see a contact phone number.

It would be reassuring if we saw some actual owner names and business address on the website.  Links to long-established Facebook profiles and Bitcoin forum profiles would also provide a level of assurance.

And a Facebook page would help users promote the site...

Whee, so now I've used both aspects of the system.

I deposited money via an online bill payment, that went through within 24hrs and they were so pleasant as to email me when they received it.

Next I placed a buy at $20 and waited. Couple days later, voila, someone filled my order. Now to actually "play" the market.

This is awesome for us Canadians! Fast turnaround and great service!

How long did it take for the etransfer to happen?

Not long.  I went for supper, but I would estimate between 1 and 2 hours.  After receiving the e-mail, it was virtually instant to put the money in the bank.

I was a little skeptical when I first started out at bitcoins, being Canadian. There seemed to be no option for us to easily buy/sell BTC via CAD, but I feel like a weight has been lifted since finding this site.

Great job with the simple yet functional site. You get my two thumbs and big toes pointing way up.

It works well. If you only want to buy bitcoins the process is very low risk as you send e-transfer buy BTC then withdraw.

One thing I would like to see changed about the account info settings is the fact that after entering my bank account information, it remains visible for anyone to see. If my account were to become compromised, I would hope there would be stars or some type of mask to hide my info.

Could you please be more specific? What sort of bank account information does it want you to enter? I'm still a little skeptical and am not willing to try it out until I get some more information. Now that a senior member has tested it I'm not as worried, but I still would like more info.

If you just use etransfer to withdraw your money you don't need to enter banking information, though the fee is higher than with direct deposit.

Alright thanks. I plan on using Etransfer anyways. Don't mind the additional fees, I'd rather be safe than sorry. I suppose I'll give Virtex a try next time I sell. Maybe try buying later on once I confirm it works at least one way.

Can totally verify that this place works, I got into it around the 9th or so and even deposited some funds.

In retrospect I'm glad I did since they've hit their deposit limit for the beta phase.

Seems to work really well, I'm glad that thing exists and if you already have a TD Bank account, you're golden.

Doesn't look like it.  That's unfortunate and I hope they don't intend to keep going this way for long.  Even aside from the recent price volatility, the depth of the bid market is very shallow already.  There's not enough cash in there to make it flow as an exchange.

New news update from them today:

"Our launch date is approaching and will be announced within the week! We are working very hard on the following: 1) Migration of our beta servers to a new server infrastructure with heightened security. 2) New Terms of Use created by our legal team. 3) Compliance with Canadian anti-money laundering policies as well as GST and CRA policies. Operating a Bitcoin Exchange in Canada is a ground breaking endeavor that involves risk on our part. The delays with going live have all been due to our mission of providing a secure service for you as well mitigating our risk. Unlike other exchanges, we choose to operate in the country of residents we service. We will comply with regulatory bodies and are undertaking research and obtaining legal advice to make this exchange a reality! When choosing us for your Bitcoin exchange, you can be confident that you are dealing with a company that is performing due diligence and is located in Canada."

Does this mean (among other things) that they're going to be charging 5% sales tax on every purchase?  That seems like it will basically kill it as an exchange.
