Major Financial News Channel BloombergHT (Turkish version of Bloomberg) gave away 5 mBTC on live TV broadcast today.

An experiment aiming to prove how easy it is to send bitcoin over a TV transmission just resulted positively.
The award was immediately collected by a bitcoin enthusiastic spectator who proved his victory by sending a message to bitcointalk forum signed by receivers bitcoin address.

Well that's certainly one way of attracting more users to BTCitcoin so good job to the Turkish team of Bloomberg. Although on the video they didn't show how to do it exactly in order to claim the bounty (it would have been better that way), it's still fun way to let the word out.

This is great advertisement for bitcoin. Hope to see this in mainstream media more...

I wonder if there's anyone here in this forum who can confirm that they we're able to get the Bitcoin Giveaway on Bloomberg. I've seen this kind of news in Facebook all day and some of them are just nicely edited news report looking video. I would not even try to scan that QR code.

Just in case i might see it next time, with which app am i supposed to scan it with? When i use qr-app, just a code is appearing. Do you write it somewhere manually?

They gave a small amount becase its only just an experiment. Nice to see bitcoin is getting promoted on the news channel

Anybody could explain this for me? I would like to learn how it actually works.

They provided a QR code for people to scan to claim the 5 mBTC .... I use i-nigma on my phone to scan these QR codes. The first one to do it, will get the coins. This is nice to see, and some people like Roger Ver also did it in some of his videos, to explain how it works.

We should see more of these giveaways, because it will attract attention, but make the reward much bigger.. 5mBTC is nothing. 

Where do you paste the code you get after scanning, in order to recieve the prize?

I think you need to scan the code with a mobile wallet for example Copay and the private keys will be imported so you can send the coins to your main wallet.

I guess Michael's going to run for president  :) well, this is a good promotion. if they keep doing this, people get to know more about this system. I mean BloombergHT is one of the most known economy channel in Turkey.

Great news indeed. I wish Bloomberg was doing this once a week at least, it will be good for Bloomberg and good for Bitcoin.

I have to say that it is an interesting concept. However, only the people who already know Bitcoin will be able to claim it, so this doesn't look really attractive for me.

Okay, but how do you do the last part. Where do you copy the private key in order to recieve it in your wallet?

For some charity for instance.This would show how fast, simple and easy it is to raise some money from all over the world to support and help others.

I gave all the clues over the week on the forum and my twitter account. I even published the method of sweeping a bitcoin by scanning a private key QR using mycelium application.

I just did not tell explicitly how the QR code would be published but guessing based on the clues was really easy.

Finally the key was published on live broadcast. And a bitcointalk forum member (hugoworld) proved he was the winner by signing a message and sending it to the trivia post.

This is really good. Too bad I missed it! Hope more of these will come in future and more people will come to know bitcoin.

The barcode is your private key when you scan this and swipe it into your wallet you will open whatever is in the wallet.

i like this idea have it been used before on tv? seems like a nice way to get people to interact more also when watching tv :) and free bitcoins is always nice :)

5 mbitc is nothing. But it sends out a good signal. Bitcoin transaction can be very fast and independent of banks.

but i think the purpose of this, as it is mentioned in OP is to show how easy it is to send bitcoin to others even on TV with just a barcode.

but i agree that this amount on the barcode is never going to go to a new bitcoin user because they are not going to have the slightest idea what to do with that barcode and even if they figure it out it is going to be too late because a hungry bitcoin veteran had already claimed it in a blinking of an eye.

During Bitcoin peak - at 1000 USD per Bitcoin or so - my country have a lot of news about Bitcoin. However, I do not think that there is such an "experiment" before. I do hope that my country will do something like Bloomberg sometime soon.

This is great news. I wonder when we can see this in the main bloomberg (english edition) so we get a lot of exposure. They sometimes invite people to talk about Bitcoin but seeing it live making a demonstration doing that is always way more attractive than whatever a Bitcoin enthusiast can explain about it.

Its nice to see a bitcoin giveaway on TV, normaly i only read that bitcoin was on tv for bad news. With only one giveaway they could give a bigger amount, 5 mbtc is very small for a tv program.

This is kinda good, but the main question is, how can someone and why would anyone starting using bitcoin? the only way to start earning bitcoin is to buy them, they are expensive, and the real use for them is a bit short... So we should make some friendly way to introduce people to bitcoin and convince them that it is good..

There are plenty of hard bitcoin fans that will claim any free coins out there for the taking, So it is not a surprise it was claimed very fast.
I like the idea of the show and it will definitely bring some needed attention of bitcoin to local audience.

That's interesting, I've always wondered how people noticed the Barcodes on Bitcoin videos and documentaries that have shared similar giveaways before with their viewers. It's nice to see Bloomberg pitching into the cryptocurrency sphere.

This must be very amazing way to advertise bitcoin to whole world. Hope we'll see more these type of new and creative activities for bitcoin promotions.. So many people will get attracted towards bitcoin for sure.

Cool such giveaway on live television. Hope they promote Bitcoin also this way on Dutch television.
