Would a patent even of been possible?  Would he of made more money than his current bitcoin holdings?

DARPA should have patented the interweb, then satoshi would have to pay them to use it...

If his interest was in the money, he would have spent some of his bitcoins by now.
Patents are a rent seeking mechanism and they hinder further innovation.
Bitcoin's true growth potential wouldn't have been visible if it was patented.

Linus Torvalds should've patented Linux... and penguins.

I don't think it would've been possible due to a need of exposing himself first in order to do so and this would've put him in a lot of risk (security in case someone targets him and also government risk in case they put a limit on his moves). And lastly yes, he would've made more money by now but his priorities seem much more than just earning tad more.

I  totally agree,Satoshi might have forseen this event where many crypto currencies will be battle it out on who can give the best features and so he did not patented it,and besides Satoshi is a very generous guy with a liberal mind like the discoverer of linux..
