Title: Bitcoin over $15, what does it mean for you?
Post by: CashBitango on January 17, 2013, 08:02:21 PM
The price of bitcoin is at this moment above 15; 15.57 to be exact.

What does this mean to you? Do you want to buy more, do you have money to buy with, do you have all the bitcoins you want?

To start off, to me it means I've had a good run already. I got into bitcoin quite a few months ago, and then the price was much lower. I liked the idea of Bitcoin, so I bought some. It seemed like a good solution to problems.

Since then I've pretty much bought the amount that I think I want. I think there's always risks, so I never go "all in". But I do have quite a few percent of my portfolio in BTC.

I actually hope that BTC might make me a serious profit. I think our financial systems are having massive problems, and BTC offers a solution. It's not perfect, but it's the best so far.

Looking at the charts, $15 is not a significant number.  There might be a floor at around $10, but considering that the price didn't even hover for a bit at the previous ceiling between $14-$15, I would say that it is just a round number that some people like.  Also, that previous price crash at this point appears to have been fundamentally motivated, not technically (from a trading analysis standpoint).

I would love to know what volume of transactions is just from traders, rather than people who need to acquire bitcoins to make purchases.  My gut is that it is mostly traders...

It means more purchasing power if you hold Bitcoins.

Been a while since we've seen a good sized crash, I think this is just accelerating it. I hope it does crash and that way I can buy some btc for cheap. None of it matters in the long term. In the long term btc will keep growing and we'll see it keep growing steadily---it'll hit 16, then crash to 10. eventually it'll grow steady to 15/16 again, spike to 18 or 20 then crash to 12 or 15, repeat to 25 repeat to 15 or 20, repeat, repeat, repeat.
The long term trend is still growth though.

What does this mean to you?

All things happen in fives, or are divisible by or are multiples of five, or are somehow directly or indirectly appropriate to 5. The Law of Fives is never wrong.

I see it's been proven again.

The number 5 is intrinsically related to Phi and the Fibonacci series:

(5 + √5) x (5 – √5) = 5 + 5 + 5 + 5

Take a pentagon with 5 equal sides and connect all the points to form a 5-pointed star.  The ratios of the lengths of the resulting line segments are all based on phi.

It means some jackass just stole thousands of USD from me with a bruteforce and I happen to make less yearly than a bum does daily. That's what it means.

I see it's been proven again.

If you take the 5s from the numbers in that sentence, you are left with two ones and a seven. If you take the ones from the seven, you get five. It's inescapable.

Currently the price is at 15.8. After quick raises, there's usually a correction. If you hit it well, you sell out at the top, and buy back lower later. :)

Post by: Richy_T on January 18, 2013, 04:55:26 AM
Not selling. Just might buy some more on a correction.

By itself, this doesn't necessarily mean much but if it stabilizes for a while, it's some vindication of the confidence many have.

You know, I just took what you said and ran it through an ascii to binary converter, and I discovered that the result has 755 zeroes (divisible by 5). Weird. So I removed all the zeroes. That left 573 ones. Five hundred..... and seventy three? Weird, I thought. So I added the numbers and I discovered that 5 + 7 + 3 is 15, which is also divisible by 5. Wait a minute... 23... 2+3=5... OH SHIT ITS NOT ABOUT 23.. ITS ABOUT FIVE.....

OH MY GOD EVERYTHING HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE NUMBER FIVE!!

After the (brief) price spike to $31 in 2011 the best retrace it could manage on the way down was $17.
So, the rally this week could touch that level before a consolidation period.

It's nice because the amount I've got has now made a pretty decent profit in a short period of time.

OTOH, I'm asking myself if I should buy some more hoping for even better profits down the line or just stick with what I already have.  It would be nice if it temporarily went down a few dollars but not sure how likely that is.

That's a pretty ballsy move...

Sure, Bitcoin is promising as a method of exchange over the internet, but because it's unregulated it can be hard to anticipate major news.

Welcome to the forum!

Bitcoin is unregulated by states or banks, but in fact it's a highly (self-)regulated currency, the way the protocol is written. You cannot just conjure BTC up from thin air the way the banksters do with fiat, and that's just the start.

half a million dollars may sound like a lot, but it sounds a lot less when you say 32k btc.

if anyone is upset they're ready to get into BTC but its high prices now (mini bubble)
you should buy LTC; which when btc drops from this bubble you can convert to BTC making more btc than if you would have originally bought btc

BTC ask wall at $20 looks imposing and should cap gains for awhile after a very nice run. I'm buying LTCs while they're on sale.

meeeeh I think BTC looks primed for a nice run with obvious corrections and pauses along the way.  LTC  looks like a bargain, well that is my impression, I know very little about these markets.

which one is better for investment? BTC or LTC?

none. LTC could be. BTC is more of a sure thing if you buy AT THE RIGHT TIME. now is not the right time. if it shoots to $20; expect $15 at least; or as low as $12, or $10 if we're lucky

if BTC creeps to $17 mayhe $18...don't expect it lower than $14 $15

LTC is fairly low. If it's going to holdon as a currency which it probably will (for at least a year...)
It will rebound nicely from THIS PRICE POINT vs BTC

LTC could be more volatile; more gains; might take more patience

but look at the charts here; multiple chances to double your money in 1 year:
