Title: 13 ways to watch the price of Bitcoin
Post by: biyoud on February 22, 2016, 03:40:24 AM
There are quite a few Bitcoin charting sites but only a handful are worth a look. Below is a digest and review of the best ways to monitor the price of Bitcoin on the web, Android and iOS. Even if you only end up using one of these charting sites, it’s helpful to keep a list of them because when the price of Bitcoin gets hairy like it did April, the main charting sites get swamped and their servers grind to a halt.

Websites:
Bitcoinity
The go to for checking the current price of Bitcoin and watching it overtime. Bitcoinity has reliable  uptime when Bitcoins price is exploding or imploding (that was a fun day), and a well thought out interface with the option to switch to dark mode.  What it’s good for:  Checking the price of Bitcoin. http://bitcoinity.org/markets?theme=light

Preev.net (http://Preev.net)

It’s probably something that you would not likely look at constantly but for a quick check of the price or one of the above statistics, it does the job and works well on mobile devices.  What it’s good for:  A quick check or sending to a Bitcoin noob for a bite size introduction. http://realtimebitcoin.info/

BitJoy
BitJoy uses pleasing fonts, pastel colors, gentle animations, conveniently places the price in the title (top of the tab) and overall, feels comfortable.   What it’s good for: If you are wanting a fresh look at a Bitcoin charting tool. Made by @ffloat. http://bitjoy.org/

Is preev.net your site? And are you guys related to preev.com because that is the original site and you seem to have copied it completely. I still prefer the original one.

...

This is not real-time, but I like to watch how gold and BTC move against each other.  The below is a GLD (the ETF, so anyone can trade "paper gold") vs. the Bitcoin trust:

http://stockcharts.com/c-sc/sc?s=GBTC%3AGLD&p=D&b=5&g=0&i=0&r=1456113755472

This only works ("in near real time") when the NYSE is open for trading.

*   *   *

Another option is ounce.me which shows the BTC:Gold ratio in the upper left corner, currently 2.74 BTC per troy ounce.

ounce.me (http://ounce.me)

ounce.me also shows LTV, Ethereum, Silver, Platinum, WTI Crude Oil and the S&P500 index.  It's a nice little site.

I agree, the domain is easy to remember and quick to type and you can also break it down in mBTC conversion. I use it daily to see the price movement displayed on the open tab, so I do not even have to go to the website or switch to the page.

It is fast and easy to use and it supports loads of currencies and exchange prices. I cannot do without this site.

Why do you need to watch it in 13 ways?  You'd lose a lot of time just watching those candles sticks.

This is right, I used Google sometimes to check the price, btw where Google pick the price? I means the source of price.

I always have the bitcoinwisdom bitstamp chart open all the time. It's for me the best for keeping an eye on the price. I only wish that they were showing a much larger part of the live orderbook. I am looking for a site as clarkmoody where they were showing a huge list of the live orderbook from MtGox. So far I haven't found it.

I believe they use Coinbase for the source, you can see it on the "disclaimer" button under the little graph.

I like to use Preev too but, while I browse the news sites they all have Bitcoin Price Ticker widget built into the sites, so I stay up to date on what the

price is. The strangest method I sometimes use, is when I visit a faucet site like Freebitco.in to play the lottery and they have a Bitcoin price ticker

built into the stats page.  ;D

What i meant to say that google will only tell the bitcoin price in one currency US dollars, but if we need conversion in any other  currency then an APP or wbsite like preev is the best

Bitcoinwisdom has it all.

Aside from real time price and live volumes in multiple exchanges, you can set your own indicators and your desire graphs and line to help read the chart and makes some weekly foresights and forecast about the bitcoin price.

Good list of useful services, most of them are widely known if you are interested in bitcoin. But some of them (especially mobile services) I didn't know.

Is http://bitcoincharts.com/ (http://bitcoincharts.com/) being updated anymore? I checked the site and it seems that latest news from main page are from mid-late 2014.

You are right. Google shows latest bitcoin price in our local currency. I prefer preev to see the weighted bitcoin prices across different exchanges. Blockchain, info also provide weighted bitcoin prices.

Look like Bitcoin Ticker widget is not on the list.

It's an Android application that really has it all. They have some price monitor of almost all of major bitcoin exchanges.

The interface is easy to learn.

What I like here, even I away at my desktop, it has alarm that will triggered your target value.

That's useful topic for the traders especially and helping them to predict the next pricing levels , and it's also helping the Bitcoin's holders as well , but i think it's better nowadays to hold the bitcoins for the long term run

I will just add that there is a lightweight version app to view Coindesk latest bitcoin news (not articles).

The Android App what Im talking about is BTCkan. Aside from price monitoring in almost all of the exchanges they has news section where you can view the page in a portable one, meaning no ads and side page images.

I used a lot preev.net/com at the beginning but now I prefer bitcoinwisdom for all the features that it has. Preev.net is simple but maybe too simple. I like to be able to look at the graph, indicators and use lots and lots of tools, which preev.com doesn't allow for. If I need to check the price in New Taiwan Dollars I use bitoex, which is basically an exchange (but has many more features) that only works for TWD though. Anyway that's the only reason I would use preev.whatever : check the current NTD rate.
Also as you said http://bitcoincharts.com/ is great for historical research.
And sometimes I also have a look at http://blockchain.info/charts (http://blockchain.info/charts), for other non-price related data that I can't find elsewhere (and they have plenty).

I've just noticed that you forgot to add Bitcoin Ticker Widget (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=st.brothas.mtgoxwidget&hl=en) in your list of Android apps, OP.
That's another great tool for checking bitcoin's price quickly, with graphs and prices according to a lot of different currencies on a lot of different exchanges (it can also be used for Litecoin, btw).

I personally use preev and also this very handful webpage called cryptofolio.info where you can stack up all of your coins and follow their performance. I wish it stored more data than 1 week graphs since you have to pay if you want longer graphs.
For Android smartphone I just use the simple Bitcoin Ticker Price app thing.
