Coinbase is legit and they have millions of users, one of the biggest exchange available, just check if your country is supported by them.

They're as legit as can be but watch the terms and conditions. They'll shut you down if they can trace your address to gambling, dark markets or if they think you're buying coins to sell elsewhere.

Coinbase is a big exchange, they have lots of bitcoin users and a large number of bitcoin wallets. Its legit, only few users had problems because they could block your account if you use it to gamble on bitcoin casinos. But if you don't it to gambling, you will not have problems with coinbase.

Yeah that's right, since you are not controlling the private keys you can't do anything, but i saw that some people that their account was shut down, coinbase asked them to provide an external bitcoin address to send the remaining funds (if any left on coinbase account).

Coinbase pays the transactions fees.

Yes, Coinbase pays the miner fees (typically 0.0003 BTC) on external transactions in order to ensure these transactions propagate throughout the bitcoin network quickly.

Coinbase are decent and you should have no problem with them, obviously use online wallets at your own risk and I'm not saying that to scare you, just if you are holding a lot of coins it would be better for you if you had full control over them.

Title: Re: coinbase?
Post by: LFC_Bitcoin on February 22, 2016, 09:42:40 PM
Use them sure......

If you want to have your transactions monitored & potentially have your account closed if you gamble or even unintentionally ever own any coins that have been used for illegal activity in the past (even if not to your knowledge).

Coinbase are in bed with the US government, they're effectively a bank which goes against everything Satoshi intended.

Coinbase is the most legit and protected service you will find around.Though you would not have an idea when you suddenly have your account blocked due to "uncivilized ways "of incoming transactions. That's what happens when centralization starts kicking in.But if you seriously are gonna deposit your gambling money there, not a good idea. There are better wallets and services.

Yes they're definitely legit and I've done the Coinbase--->blockchain wallet transfer.  They will close your account in a hearbeat though if you transfer funds to gambling sites or any other shady activity.  And no warning.  And just general advice:  As with any exchange, don't store bitcoin there, just use it to buy and sell.  Good luck.

Its in coinbase legal rules, but if coinbase blocks your account, they ask you another wallet to send your bitcoins (they don't stole your money). You can read what they don't allow to do with a coinbase account here:
https://www.coinbase.com/legal/prohibited

Yes, Coinbase is legit. It is one of the most widely used wallets and most trusted ones. So far there has been no problem for me, except in the past I experience some issues with importing private keys- but this feature is no longer available I guess...

I suppose that they block gambling to avoid problems with some countries. If they support bitcoin gambling they could have problems with some country laws and coinbase wouldn't be allowed to operate in this country. Bitcoin casinos block users from some countries too.

I use them.

I do not do any of the illegal things they mention as against their ToS.

However I have advocated to sex workers that they use bitcoin, because I believe it is safer for them. I have no however paid any of them with bitcoin or sold them bitcoin or anything like that, but I hope that doesn't someday get me into trouble with coinbase.

For me, it isn't that I condone illegal sex work, it's just that those in illegal sex work often can't have bank accounts so they end up with large amounts of cash and that is dangerous, they end up getting beated and robbed.

I would rather they be safe from that than be beaten up.

But anyway, I rarely buy anything using coinbase wallet - usually I send it to my core wallet first. That's probably the smartest thing for people to do.

There was a reddit thread not long ago I read, which I`ll link here if I find it again.

But I`m sure you can search on google for this as well, that they been suspending accounts that trail to any involvement they see as a consider illegal activity.

In some cases members that havent even done anything get also suspended which people are frowning on coinbase for as well.

I use coin-base to purchase bitcoins all the time and I generally have had no problem whatsoever purchasing coins from them. The only thing is I kind of wish there was a much faster deposit time when I make a cash deposit but other than that, it is my preferred website which I purchase bitcoins from.

Coinbase is legit, but may not be the best company out there. If you plan on using it only for a wallet then go for it,its better if you got a downloadable wallet but coinbase is one of the better online wallets. But if you intent to use it for buying/selling bitcoin  then its much better if you use circle as they are instant and allow you to use a debit card.

Coinbase is good, mostly for US citizens and only for buying and selling bitcoin. but if you are planning on using them as your wallet to store bitcoin i would advise against it for two main reasons.
- it is an online wallet which means risk (hack,...) while using them
- they have all these rules that you have to follow or they will block your account and your funds.

so you are better off using another (desktop, paper,...) wallet to store coin bitcoins.

Coinbase have to adhere to the same regulations any other financial institution in the USA have to adhere to, namely KYC/AML. This is why you have to go through all those verification processes. They have been operating for years, with only a few users complaining that their accounts were blocked, because they traded with sites not allowed in their ToS.

Read the ToS carefully and avoid those type of sites, for example Bitcoin Gambling.

I have bought with Coinbase, my last experience was a minimum 15cent fee or 1% (I live in the U.S.).
I don't typically store coin on the site but do use them to transact from time to time.
Someone mentioned a lag when converting coin to fiat: yes, wish it was faster too.
So far, good enough for now.

Unfortunately their ToS looks like what I expected a legal exchange in the US would be required to do, so I can't fault them for that.

You do those things from a bank account and it gets flagged, you lose your bank account.

That's why a lot of sex workers and even legal marijuana dealers can't have bank accounts. It's a problem in this country that needs to be fixed, our laws are are really bad in that area and put people at risk.

Yes Coinbase is real and legit.
But highly regulated and pretty quick in closing accounts when in their opinion something seems to be suspicious.
My advice:If you definitely wanna use them, only buy or sell some coins  and then transfer to your own private wallet or bank account.
Don't store your coins with Coinbase!

Title: Re: coinbase?

Just beware that coinbase controls the private keys, not you. Also the funds that are not in "vault" are not insured, so you CAN lose your money if coinbase decides to close shop or the government decides to freeze your funds.

For just Bitcoin storage and transaction, I would stay away from coinbase, and use blockchain wallet instead, since with blockchain, you control the private key, not blockchain, they don't even know your private key.

But for buy/sell Bitcoin with fiat, then yes coinbase is really convenient though they charge a very high fee.

mtgox was big and legit too, until it wasn't.

Few days ago someone ask similar question, so i will just quote my answer here ;)

coinbase is asking for a lot of info.  are they legit?

Coinbase have the best security from all wallets and exchanges on market!
Here you have little overview:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1364126.0

Here you have more info about how big is this project:
http://www.wsj.com/articles/coinbase-raises-75-million-in-funding-round-1421762403
http://www.wsj.com/articles/first-u-s-bitcoin-exchange-set-to-open-1422221641
http://www.coindesk.com/coinbase-expands-bitcoin-services-to-canada/
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/22/business/dealbook/the-benefits-of-allowing-bitcoin-to-flourish.html?_r=1

Of course you can send BTC from Coinbase everywhere, but as was mentioned gambling, dark web or illegal activity detected on your account will rosult of blockade.

Edit 1
how much would they charge i use my debit/credit card

As i remember correct, last time they charge me for international transfer just 0.15 cents (euro). (Will be better if someone confirm that) Anyway fees are not high.

Fee UK

Buy / Sell - 1%
Credit card - Buy / Sell - 3%
Bank wires - in / out *   - N / A
Bank transfers (SEPA) - in / out * - Free/€0.15

Edit 2
I have confirmed only my bank account and everything is working correct, not sure what exactly you would like to know?

Edit 3
Oh i think you ask if better is confirm card or account? I think that have no connection with exchange fees.

I have bought 6 times through coinbase and they took their fees instantly from me. That bit of their service was excellent. HOWEVER now I am waiting on a withdrawal since the 9th of December which caused me to miss my mortgage payment. Have they done anything about it, "f all".

As this has caused hardship I have resorted to swearing which I don't advise because of mamby pamby uk laws on abuse. But the real abuse here is these tossers not giving me my money back on a timely basis.

This happened because they lost their GBP bank account and required me to comply with SEPA  and take a Euro deposit to my account (at cost to me). But when you send from my bank it goes out on the generic bank iban number. That then looks like your verified SEPA iban account. I withdrew to that account and was then sent an email saying not to; too late. I then explained that they should enact a payment recovery "fucking ages ago" and still don't have my money.

Would you use Coinbase if it took a month, 2 months to withdraw your money and were having to go through another conversion process to another currency at cost to you?

I thought not!

Just another bunch of scammers like mt gox and that scumbag Paul Vermin of Cryptsy fame.

As my email clearly said give me my fucking money back or I will visit your Cheapside St, London office.

I have been using coinbase for a few months, havent had any real problem till now.
The main thing Ive always had a problem with is that you have no choice of buy or sell price at all.  1 time I made a purchase order and it didnt buy till the price was almost $15 higher.  And the fees seem to be going up too.
But now the main problem I have is, I do SMS verification and they are blaming one of the worlds largest phone carriers isnt sending me SMS texts from just them no one else.  I have contacted my carrier and they have received nothing from them since my last login weeks ago.  So I am essentially locked out of my account at the highest sell point weve seen in weeks.  And not only that but i got like $15 in my bank account lol.  Gonna be a rough weekend.

It is legit, however some countries aren't supported by coinbase hence, it is not for worldwide wallet unlike blockchain. It is a great exchanger the let you to be able to convert fiat money to btc vice versa. It has a legal information and major wallet for usd to btc exchanger vice versa. However, since we can convert our fiat money to btc vice versa in my country through coins.ph, I don't need coinbase because I prefer blockchain in terms of service, security, and reliability.

at this point im am gonna find any service that replaces coinbase after last week
i sold btc to my bank account, the transaction failed on their site
funds were gone with no confirmation or information at all
i sent an email to support right away
nothing for 36 hours so i sent a 2nd support email, nothing
thankfully the transaction did complete and it was a problem with the sites front end
but i didnt receive a reply to my support email for over a week
that is just not acceptable by any means at all
even if i cant find anything else to replace them exactly I WILL NEVER SELL MORE THAN $500 EVER
u just have no idea if u send them btc and something goes wrong if ull get any sort of help for days
if i tried selling $10k of btc to my bank account i would have filed a police report saying they stole my money after not getting a reply in the 1st 24 hours

Thats up until 10 days ago... I transfer some BTC in, go to sell and find that I can not buy or sell BTC. Email sent to customer support. Here we are 10 days later, no response. They are not answering the phone either.

I'm not sure whats going on there.

I've used Coinbase many times over the past 3-4 years and never had a problem with them. Some transactions took longer then I expected but they always worked out.
You should have taken those signs seriously.Coinbase has been boycotted as a reliable exchange by the community a long time ago.

Thats up until 10 days ago... I transfer some BTC in, go to sell and find that I can not buy or sell BTC. Email sent to customer support. Here we are 10 days later, no response. They are not answering the phone either.

they have not responded to any of my emails so no reason has been given.

I dont think I have any BTC "stuck" per say. I'm just going to transfer it back to my blockchain wallet until I can figure out where to buy/sell BTC elsewhere.

Up until a year ago Coinbase was fine by me. I cashed out a good amount of BTC last year and the transaction went exactly as planned out.

Bitcoin Exchange Coinbase Hits 10 Million Users - In the last three weeks of August, the bitcoin exchange added an astonishing 800,000 users.

3 Weeks = 21 days
60x60x24 = 86,400 seconds in a day
21x86,400 = 1,814,400 seconds in 21 days
1,814,400 / 800,000 = a new user added every 2.26 seconds

Hi, how long does it take to transfer BTC to a paper wallet now, since there is a notification that there is longer waiting period for transfering BTC?

I withdrew Bitcoin from Coinbase yesterday, and it indeed took longer than usual to receive my funds. I initially thought that I accidentally sent coins to a different wallet, which got me a bit worried, but everything was all fine.

It took like 30 minutes instead of the insant withdrawals I usually enjoy, but there is nothing to worry about. On Reddit people complain about the same 'issue' but they get their coins in the end, so that's all that matters.

As the prices across all cryptos tumbled today coinbase froze the ability to buy and sell anything, how very convenient, just as you'd want to buy etc/ltc/btc to make most gains they stash everything for themselves. STAY AWAY. I am switching to Gemini now, scr ew those coinbase crooks

They're as legit as can be but watch the terms and conditions. They'll shut you down if they can trace your address to gambling, dark markets or if they think you're buying coins to sell elsewhere.
I'm planning to buy BTC/USD on coinbase and planning to sell on an exchange where the price is higher. Am I allowed to do that?

Yes, it's call "arbitrage" ... its legal, but not always as easy as it looks. Good luck!

They are advising people to use debit cards or direct deposit

Coinbase (https://coincodex.com/exchange/gdax/) is discussing a deal that could put it at $8 billion valuation:

I reckon coinbase's outcome will be as binary as BTC. Either they wind up one of the world's biggest companies or they get nipped to death by more agile competitors.

I don't think there's a huge amount of love out there for them. Their fiat links are the be all and end all. If someone else does it better it could get tricky for them.

I hope they know what they're doing. Most coins out there are not robust or professional enough to justify listing on a place that wants to be the gold standard.

Imagine if they had 100 million clients and a ton of institutions and all this Bcash shit had kicked off.

Funnily enough the one and only coin that does tick all the boxes, Bitcoin, is the one they hate the most and would prefer to go away.
