Title: Can't import .key file.
Post by: Holdaaja on February 23, 2016, 03:05:16 PM
I have password protected .key file that I made with MultiBit in 2014.
I am trying to import it but I get this error "Could not understand address in import file"

How can I import it?

Could not understand address in import file

You see this message if you try to import private keys in a format that MultiBit Classic doesn't recognise.

You can fix this problem by putting the keys you want to import into the same format that MultiBit Classic uses to export keys - see:

https://multibit.org/en/help/v0.5/help_exportingPrivateKeys.html#exportFileFormat

https://multibit.org/en/help/v0.5/help_importASingleKey.html

Hope this helps.

Oh well i forgot to ask, are you trying to import the *.key file in Multibit Classic or in MultibitHD?

Cause you cannot import directly keys from MultiBit Classic to MultibitHD.  :)

I have no idea what to do.
My file looks ok and I can't import single key because I can't encrypt it.

Just a thought, please don't shoot me if I'm wrong: maybe it's a MultiDoge key file and not MultiBit?

Oh well, I only have like 0.02btc there so what ever.

But should I be worried about my Casascius coin?
I mean if I try to open it after 5 years is there change that it won't work either?
