Title: I made a pizza guy laugh today.
Post by: commandrix on February 24, 2016, 12:18:13 AM
He was delivering to the neighbor and, while he waited for them to answer the doorbell, he asked me if I heard of this nifty little thing called Bitcoin. I couldn't resist telling him the Bitcoin pizza story and told him that I'd also used it to order pizza delivery before. But it's good to see that Bitcoin is starting to get out there more.

Well that's interesting.  When I get pizza delivered I'm usually trying to shove my cats back thru the door and don't have time for conversation whilst paying the (wo)man.  It's always a giant clusterfuck.

There's a restaurant in my city that sells pizza and accept Bitcoin. You can buy marijuana next door too and pay with Bitcoin.

Its good to see that bitcoin is becoming more out there.
I have a similar story. Once I took a Cab and the trip was bit long so the cab driver started to talk with me about the current economic state of my country, and after a while he goes on and asks me if I've ever heard about bitcoin. I was absolutely amazed!

Even the pizza guy knows Bitcoin, this is getting more mainstream. I'm glad that you told the pizza guy about that story, because he will also tell the story to his friends and everybody on that pizza store will know that story. :D

Yes! This is only the beginning of mainstream. I guess at this stage they are just taking it as something funny. Soon they will regard for not taking it seriously.

I met only one person until now who asked me if I know about Bitcoin and I was amazed at first but then to test his knowledge, I pretended as if I have no idea what it is, so he tried to explain it to me and it looked more like a sales pitch for a get rich plan and then I told him I am in Bitcoin world from 2 years now and corrected him that he shouldn't present Bitcoin as a get rich scheme.

Went on vacation to Vancouver last summer, weed store on basically every corner. It's pretty nuts, in a good or bad way depending on how you intend on looking at it.

I wonder what varieties of kush they have hidden away...

It would not be unnatural for someone in the pizza delivery business to know about Bitcoin or to have know about it. The pizza story made headlines in most news papers for a while and even helped to spread awareness of how valuable Bitcoin has become and that you could buy goods and pay for services for it.

I have bought pizza with Bitcoin before, and it is fun to talk to these guys and gals.

Yeah the bitcoin pizza story was huge, ironically it was such a while ago and Bitcoin was worth so much less back when it happened.

That's what makes the story so big, it happened back when a fairly unknown and niche currency was just starting to make its rounds, and then next thing you know it is valued at $1,000/coin and someone paid $10,000,000 for a pizza (adjusted for rough peak value) and now those coins have gone somewhere else, etc.

Pizza delivery people or those who own pizza shops probably all envy the chain that got that payment, but I think it is cool regardless of the industry's feelings that so many people are hearing about Bitcoin.

Where I live you can buy from convenience stores with bitcoins. Also providing that you know where to go you can have a beer or spend a night at a hotel for bitcoins, too :D
It's not far from paradise. It's called Taiwan :D

Smoking weed is highly prohibited though. Sometimes you can see Americans smoke hashish though, but they're always extremely careful with the cops. No kidding. It's Asia.
I have also told the pizza guy same story of bitcoins he laughed.
One day I went into a random pub and asked the owner with a smile if bitcoins were accepted in his establishment (I knew there were 99% chances that they wouldn't be but yeah you know, just kidding... and advertising for bitcoin, also :D ). He smiled back and said "I wish". To which I replied "well it's up to you mate, if you want to accept bitcoins you just have to decide so", and then he walked away without saying anything.
I guess it meant that he didn't know what bitcoin was, or that he had heard about it and though it was just an internet scam and that he actually meant "you wish", but yeah, anyway  ;D

I haven't heard the bitcoin pizza story.

Found the original pizza thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=137.0

laszlo paid jercos 10,000 BTC ($41 back then) for 2 large pizzas in 2010.

Wow that is pretty cool actually.
Maybe he was hinting that he accepts tips in BTC
And like the others said it is indeed usually the other way around.
Slowly but surely BTC gets accepted by more and more people.
It helps that we have all these free BTC wallets for Android and Iphone now which are easy to use and understandable.

You know what will make a cool story? Imagine if someone tipped a pizza delivery guy, say 100 Bitcoins back then and at todays rate {$420} it would be valued at

roughly $ 42 000 ..... and even better, if this delivery guy forgot about that tip, and he just realized how much that was worth today, and he still kept it. So next time,

put some Satoshi's {+/- $5 worth} into some paper wallets and give it to pizza delivery guys. {Tell them about the pizza, and ask them to investigate} You might just

be the guy that makes history in the next 5 to 10 years, when that $5 tip grows to $5000 or $50 000.  ::)

Maybe the person who he was to deliver the pizza bought these pizza through bitcoin.

there was an electronic store nearby selling raspberry pi and some arduino boards to which they printed btc logo BTC on their door but turned out they never really accept bitcoin when i asked them.
the logo though was from the previous owner of the place.

Few north American countries are also doesn't have much restrictions on using bitcoin in their business.

good idea, and if i may i want to add that he should put the coins in a paper wallet since the pizza guy might not know what bitcoin is. and giving a paper to somebody is easier that saying here is bitcoin on your phone that you don't even see.
