A 13-year-old child was briefly detained on charges of “insulting” President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Facebook, the Bianet online news portal reported on Wednesday. Counterterrorism teams from the İstanbul Police Department raided the home of A.Ş. and detained the child over his Facebook posts in which he is accused of insulting Erdoğan, Bianet said. He was reportedly released early on Wednesday due to his age after being interrogated by prosecutors. A.Ş. denied the accusations during the interrogation. Police reportedly tracked A.Ş.’s social media posts for nine months after a tip-off by “a secret witness” that claimed he insulted Erdoğan in a comment he posted below a video on Facebook.

I am not much surprised. A few days ago, another retard sued his wife for insulting Erdogan.

the funny thing is that the presidents who are supporting the so called revolution in Syria are the biggest dictators on this planet
Erdogan , SA's King and many others are saying that there is no future for Al-Assad in Syria
while they have done and are doing bad things for their people
Let's face it , there will never be democracy in the middle east

Only with wealth their oil wealth they are trying to be dictators. Here also the religious attachment is a major
cause for such discriminated support. As you said now it looks to be a bad economic situation for Saudi Arabia.

You are 100% correct. Erdogan has killed more than 1,000 Kurdish civilians in south-east Turkey, during the last few months. The Saudi king has butchered thousands of innocent Yemenis, with his indiscriminate bombing raids.

Only with wealth their oil wealth they are trying to be dictators. Here also the religious attachment is a major

Before the oil prices crashed, the Saudis had reserves worth as much as $730 billion. As of January 1, 2016, these reserves were reduced to $609 billion. But still, they can sustain for at least 4-5 years more.

Probably not, as Syria have no European part, but Ukraine is an other promising nest of hornets for the taking :).

I don't understand this. Every European Union member should abide by the laws and regulations set by the EU. For example, Greece is forced to accept all these immigrants, as the EU rules demand that the borders should be open to anyone who claims that he is a refugee. Poland is forced to provide translation services for the speakers of Kashubian language (a minor language which is spoken by a few thousand people), as the EU laws demand that minority languages must be recognized in all the member nations.

Now how is this going to work out in Turkey? Until recently, the use of languages other than Turkish for private conversations were illegal in Turkey, and doing so was a criminal offense. So, is the EU going to exclude Turkey from all these laws and regulations?

Every nation including Turkey claims to be modern, but you still can be attacked in your home and dragged to prison for stating your opinion. There's nothing modern about it.
As a politician you should be ready to face criticism and even insults.

There are countries where you can speak your mind freely. And politicians are and have to assume what they are doing. People won't talk bad about politicians that are good and loved.

There are no politicians loved by all because they have to make choices and choices never result in all people getting everything they want. Sometimes they have to take from one group and give to another.

You might not hear what happens in your city. That is your own problem but if a 13 years old boy was arrested of insulting a President, it is a big news and maybe only deaf can't hear it. Turkey is not a clan state. It has own laws and social rules have coming 1000s years and due to our laws and social rules, you can't insult Chair of Presidency. Presidency represents state's own. You may not love Erdogan personaly,  but it doesn't give you any right to insult President. But due to our laws, 13 years boy is not responsible in front of laws. I hope you got it now

Listen. The news was published in Today's Zaman, which is one of the most popular dailies in Turkey. It is not my problem if you didn't read about it. Perhaps you are illiterate, and could not read.

A report about the incident was also published in Hürriyet Daily News, which I believe is the most popular news paper in Istanbul.

A 13-year-old student in western Turkey has testified on suspicion that he “insulted” President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Facebook. On Feb. 27, a prosecutor in the Ayvalık district of the Balıkesir province summoned the 7th-grader, identified by the initials U.R.E., over a message he shared on Facebook in May 2014, according to a report by Doğan News Agency. The father met the police at his son’s school, from where then they all went to Ayvalık State Hospital and received a medical report. The child then testified to the prosecutor at the courthouse in Ayvalık over his Facebook message.
Quote
Citing Turkey’s defamation laws, Erdoğan has filed criminal complaints citing “insult” against more than 60 people in the country since he was elected to office in August 2014. Besides journalists, students have also increasingly become the target of prosecutors. Teenage schoolboy Mehmet Emin Altunses will go on trial on March 6 on charges of insulting the president in a speech in the conservative Anatolian city of Konya.

At least going to jail is far better than getting your head chopped off. Go to Saudi Arabia, and dare to criticize the ruling monarch. You will be beheaded in a few days time, in full public view. Turkey, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, Qatar, Bahrain... the list is quite long. If you have a penchant for criticizing the heads of state, then avoid these nations.

Often Turkey is cited as the most successful example of Muslim Democracy. Before, Erdoğan, they were actually a Democratic nation. Erdoğan transformed Turkey from a secular Democratic nation to an Islamic dictatorship. Ahmet Necdet Sezer tried in vain to stop the Islamization of Turkey, by vetoing several of the laws passed by the Islamists. But he stepped down in 2007.

I'm not surprised with such news.
Turkey has serious democratic shortcomings and in many respects is closer to a dictatorship than a modern democracy.
Erdogan made a major shift towards Islamism and he also limited human rights in his country.
Turkey is necessary and important because of the crisis in Syria and Iraq and therefore America and other countries don't want to interfere in Turkey's internal crisis.
Because of this, nothing will change and we will read more such news.
It's called political reality.

He knew he was fighting a losing battle. He was involved in far too many controversies. For example, once he threw out Erdoğan's wife from the presidential palace for wearing an Islamic headscarf. His views were too radical and extreme. The AKP supporters (especially those in Anatolia) held protest rallies against him almost every day. He got more and more isolated, after Erdoğan replaced the secualar generals in the Turkish armed forces with those known for pro-Islamist sympathies.

Right now, Turkey is not a democracy. It is more like a military dictatorship. Erdoğan has only one aim, and that is to stay in power for as long as possible, so that his family can get rich from all that oil money from the ISIS, and bribes from businessmen. Unfortunately, the voters in Turkey are not intelligent enough to see through his real intentions.

If he doesn't like people's opinions he should try and be a better person and politician. Like a spoiled child running off to mommy because the other children said something he didn't like.

Right now, Turkey is not a democracy. It is more like a military dictatorship. Erdoğan has only one aim, and that is to stay in power for as long as possible, so that his family can get rich from all that oil money from the ISIS, and bribes from businessmen. Unfortunately, the voters in Turkey are not intelligent enough to see through his real intentions.

no, turkish voters are intelligent enough to see what is the truth laying behind erdogan's intentions but they want to choose not seeing it for the sake of their bussniess or money profit for sure..

Erdogan seems to be getting mighty nervous about his image and his hold on the people. Unless there is further evidence that we are not seeing, he is acting just like the Saudi and Bahrain kings who thing they truly are descended from Royalty and can't tolerate the slightest form of protest or even an innocent mistake if it occurred.

He wasn't arrested. Just he testified. Because to insult to president is not allowed due to turkish laws. If even 13 years old boy does it,  at the least  he will be under custody. Turkey has very different culture beyond your perception. Turkish people live a modern life with islamic and traditional culture. For one turk, his state, his flag, his honour, and his religion are worthy to die for sake. In Turkey you can't insult president front of people, you may beaten. You can't insult the flag. You may be killed. Turkish people are born fighter. They love death for sake of their homeland more than you love life. In other side, turkish people are maybe the most hospitable people on the world. You never feel yourself alone in Turkey. If you need help, you may not need to find somebody to help you. Somebody will find you.

He just shared what he thought was a funny pic. He didn't created that image. If Erdogan is that much offended, then he should arrest the person who created the image (a foreign national, residing outside Turkey), rather than arresting his citizens who share them. Else, he could ban FaceBook in Turkey, just like he banned Twitter.

The EU used to be quite relaxed on violating some of it's own basic values if it's about a new landgrab :/. Ukraine is a good example for that, and I guess Turkey is big and juicy enough to condone even a small scale genocide, if necessary.

...and some idiots in Brussels are thinking about letting Turkey into the EU. They shouldn't even consider that until such "cult of personality" exist over there.

No of course not.

That's why Turkey isn't part of the EU and is not going to integrate it until they change those things.
Turkey has always been refused application because they have too much differences with EU regulation.
