AFAK there is no offline wallet for XRP. Rippletrade wallet is the safest one at this stage, coz it`s a California based trusted company. But after 1st of April they are deactivating users` wallets and trading on their platform.

thanks for your answer, so if they are deactivating users wallets though where else can I store my ripples? I have them on cryptsy and would like to move them (well, if crypsty lets me to it of course :))

What do you need to keep your Ripples anyway?

Is the secret key enough?

With Bitcoin, all you need is the private key to access your coins.

That said, if you don't trust online services with the safety of your XRP, can you create your own address where only you know the secret key?

yes I don't need to keep them, is what you are talking about something like a paper wallet? would you have a link to some guide on how to do that? thank you

Ripple company has strike a deal with Gatehub.net - a UK based company. Most of the users are migrating their wallets to gatehub.net. U can store your XRP with them.

U can also store your XRP on Poloniex, Bittrex and on other exchange platforms. Check the list here: http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/ripple/#markets

But as MtGox and Cryptsy history have shown, no exchange platform is more sure than your own desktop wallet.

Ripple trade is its official wallet. I trust it as trusting ripple. No other third party exchanges hold ripple for me. OP, if you are obsessed about the paper wallets, you can cash it out to bitcoin.

Maybe, but they require you to not only supply a phone number for verification, but also a copy of your passport or similar.
If MtGox/Cryptsy/Whatever other exchange has taught anything, it's that you do not want this sort of information in the hands of such a company.

A wallet under your personal control is the safest way to store any cryptocurrency; with every other option there is the chance that a 3rd party has control over your coins.

If it is not possible to use a standalone client to manage your XRP, it's pointless to bother about it.

1. Cryptsy will not allow you to cashout your XRP. I had to convert to another coin to cash out, and this was months ago. I sent an email to support in 2015 and I got this email 13 days ago:

"Currently we are experiencing problems with our withdrawal system.
If you place a withdrawal for BTC LTC DASH BTCD and a few other coins, you may experience delays.

You will receive notice once we have resolved this problem

If you would like to cancel a withdrawal, please create a "new" ticket and choose "Cancel Withdrawal"
from the ticket type.

Please see http://blog.cryptsy.com/ for current and future updates.

We appreciate your patience while we resolve these issues.

Sincerely,
Cryptsy Customer Service"

2. Yes, you only need your secret/private key to access your XRP on the Ripple network: Your public key starts with an "r" your secret key starts with an "s". However, Cryptsy doesn't issue wallets so you don't technically own XRP, you own Cryptsy XRP IOUs:  https://ripple.com/knowledge_center/password-recovery-and-your-secret-key/

3. Yes, you can create a cold wallet: see http://www.xrpchat.com/topic/995-poll-developers-how-much-do-you-know-about-ripple-rcl/#comment-8784 and http://www.xrpchat.com/topic/1059-viewing-a-cold-wallet-balance-in-block-explorer/#comment-9388

4. Gatehub.net and Bluzelle.com both offer Ripple wallets. Kraken and Poloniex offer IOUs. However, the security at Kraken is top notch, your XRP are unlikely to be "lost" or stolen from Kraken. You can also create XRP wallets on RippleSingapore and some of the Asian exchanges/gateways.

Cryptsy is an example why I don't trust online wallets.

I looked into it a bit and stumbled over https://github.com/yxxyun/ripple-client-desktop/releases

You can create a new address and secret key on an air-gapped system with it (and it seems you don't need the wallet.txt at all).
Plus, you can do transactions too with it, what makes you independant from a 3rd party.

If you have XRP stored with such a 3rd party, you could create a new address/key pair and transfer them there.

As far as I know there are no (useful) offline wallet for XRP. Storing your coins on exchanges is quite risky (e.g. Cryptsy ) so I wouldn't recommend that. I think the officially recommended site is your best choice.

I've been looking at the above.  No decision yet.  Anybody else using it?  Reviews?  Issues?

Personally I keep XRP on https://www.kraken.com/

XRP/Ripple does need a better Exchange/Wallet network.  If it gets it, you'll see upward motion come along with it.  If not, then this is a patient hold with hopefully rewards for the faithful.   I'm beginning to think that XRP/Ripple may always be primarily a "bank/exchange" accessed coin though.  It seems like that is the plan.  But that could do it if just one major bank starts putting it out there as a currency alternative, then more would follow.  A matter of time IMHO.

Does anyone have experience with the Ripple Desktop Wallet/Cold Storage (I have installed, transferred XRP to it).

Is this a Ripple supported application? If not whose app is this?
Is this for use for long term cold storage?
Is this a secure method for XRP storage, e.g., security, what happens if the application is no longer supported?
Is there any documentation for use?

If you want your money to be stored securely, put it inside of a personal wallet. Plain and simple.

GateHub is too invasive

Verifying Who You Are.

GateHub will do everything we can to respect and protect the privacy of our customers. However, we are required to first verify who you are, and make sure you are not using the Site for illegal transactions, or terror financing.

For the purpose of verification we will collect the following kinds of identity documents from you:

Photo ID – Drivers License, National Identity Card or International Passport.
Proof of address – Utility bill, bank statement (Issued within last three months).
After this "verification" by GateHub (which many customers say is much like a identity colonoscopy), our customers will be able to trade currencies using their own Ripple wallets natively on the Ripple network.

Hi Guys,

just installed this wipplex, sent ripples to it
the transaction was made, no XRP whatsoever in my account
transaction ID 6D9208929DC4A223EE9659F2E678DD4764464789EAB026501CBE90A4DF87709F

so I dont know who made the mistake, I sent bitcoins to exchange for ripples at https://changelly.com/
it says the money was sent, when we check in the chain after this transaction, shows something
however when searching for my wallet number, says account not found
wallet: rhqtJ3vrv8Bs3jz5SKwE41AQUfQtMSSnY7

seems I lost 10 xrps to somebody, glad its cheap

cheers

Marco

Title: Re: ripple wallet?
Post by: namini on May 08, 2017, 04:51:35 PM
You need to send at least 21 XRP (20 XRP + transaction cost) to activate a wallet.

"This transaction failed with a status code of tecNO_DST_INSUF_XRP, and validated in ledger 29608742 on May 8, 2017 9:33 AM."

Also as I wrote in a previous post, I've never heard of this "wipplex" wallet before so be careful.

If you want a trusted wallet you can use the wallet from the gateway Rippex:

I think to save a safe ripple only in Bittrex, because I think it's safe to save the ripples you have, but if you ever open Bittrex with HP do not ever use other people's wifi, because if you use someone else's wifi, you might be at risk. The loss of ripple that you have and be the target of others with wifi you ever use.

BitJohn is MegabyteJohnny when it comes for excuses, and again, everybody should believe that it would be stupid, as craptsy is legit, yeah right, and everybody lies

I tried to remove some xrp to see if it works or will it get stucked:

to double check the withdrawal transaction. Please give this some time as our tech support team will respond in order of tickets received.

Cryptsy.com

Guess what MegaJohnny, you should go to politics, the better you lie and hide, the better it is for you. Do you really have 14 people in your support, maybe you have only 2, rest are bots? Can you list your members by names  ;D, I know it's not appropriate, but it is also not appropriate to hold user coins, force trades in your favour, edit accounts without approval of it's owner, horrible fiasco with EUR market, horrible support, chat members that can't write 1 sentence without saying f*, ....

Culmination of this is mess is for sure the connection of all mentioned above. I am tired of reading your answers and at the same time there is no change, if your words would be truth, there would be no blog or mass of users that claim that you frauded them. Cryptsy is not far from end (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbT07mc5RVY) if you continue in the same way.

Tickets are generally resolved within 24 hours. Your withdrawal will likely be cancelled and your next one will go through. Rippled occasionally goes out of sync and responds with an empty txid when we try to initiate a withdrawal

And JAXX announced they would add Monero too.
Later they bailed on the idea with excuses.

So..

The future of "Big Banks" is bright  :D

You can share your Ripple public wallet address with anyone (start with a r...)
Never share your secret key (start with a s...) it gives direct access to your funds, store it somewhere safe (print it).

Remember you need to deposit at least 20 XRP to activate a wallet.

You can also create a wallet on https://gatehub.net/ if you verify your phone number they should activate your wallet (you don't need to send documents to trade cryptos).
Check XrpChat link I posted above, there are other ways to activate a wallet.

Why does the Ripple team not develop an official Ripple wallet for desktop?

Ledger wallet is a hardware wallet which stores ripple. its avalilable in www.ledgerwallet.com, but unfortunately it takes so many days to ship to India and shipping costs are high  :-[

There seems to be quite an order backlog on the Ledger Wallet everywhere due to high demand, have you checked the retailers based in India for prices/postage costs?

Today, Ripple has the 4th largest Market Cap (USD8 Billion +) and no desktop wallet that I can find. Is there a technical reason why the devs can't develop a desktop wallet?  I imagine a lot of potential investors would be put off by this...

No. I would be mostly non technical: regulation and the possibility that man with guns come to shut them down.

Actually there are including XRP is also able to store wallets offline but in my opinion will add panic later because there are also obstacles that can happen anytime and could be self-defeating. I suggest better save in online only

Ended up using Gatehub because they completed the verification process faster than Bitstamp.
Gatehub took 3 days, while Bitstamp took 6, and customer service was slightly better at answering my concerns during the verification process (opened my account last month).

Great, now there is some progress with a desktop wallet. Windows 64 bit and 32 bit. Probably best to see what ppl say about it in the ripple forums before using. Or just buy a Nano S.

When I first register on gatehub they gave me 20 ripples after it, not sure what it is for but glad its there adding on my account. I don't know if they are still giving such bonus upon registration but its quite interesting they are giving it away when its price is constantly rising.

The problem is that I don't have enough funds right now to buy a Ledger Nano S. so I would appriciate if someone can tell me a safe and trusted Desktop wallet to store ripples because I have been a victim of scam eth wallet before and I don't want it to happen in ripples.

so far i can not found any ripple wallet beside on the market and i think it will safe if we keep in the exchanges as long as we secure our account. but i am too curious about the dev, why they don't have any wallet like the other wallet and why they don't trying to create one desktop or android wallet so we can move our ripple into the wallet. but so far i am fine with this and if in future there is a wallet for ripple, i want to download it and installed it in my computer or my cellphone then i can send my ripple to that wallet.

When choosing a wallet you need to understand the differences. Cost is the main factor that the user pays attention to in the selection process. Bitcoin doesn't need to pay anything but Ripple insists on having 20 XRPs. When you decide to refill your wallet for 1000 XRP please note that 20 XRP will be used for booking the address. For this reason, people refuse to use several wallets for XRP (even if necessary). To save money  do not rush from side to side. It is better to immediately choose the best option for your wallet.

I have been using the desktop wallet now for about 6 months it functions as you would expect and allows you to hold your XRP under your own private key. Only thing to note is they impose a 20 XRP charge to create your wallet first time.

This thread kind of makes me want to sell my Ripple (XRP) right away. I currently hold Ripple (XRP) in my Bittrex account and I was looking for the Ripple wallet when I came across this thread. I have been slowly moving my money from Ripple into Stellar (XLM) simply because the information on the website is more clearly presented, a lot more information on how the company plans to move forward, and now finally the wallet. I figured having the same founder that Ripple would have a decent wallet, seeing that Stellar's wallet is fantastic. At least this thread lets me know I wasn't crazy when I couldn't find a XRP wallet for the desktop. I still don't understand all the hype around Ripple. I waited almost a year for it to get to a dollar while all these other coins went to the moon, now it's doing the same thing at $1.00 that it did at $0.20. Up 20% by coinmarketcap and Ripple, yet it always seems to be down versus the US Dollar. Ripple just seems like another bank with some shady practices looking out more for institutions than individuals. Developing a desktop wallet for individual users would seem like a top priority to me, given the popularity of Ripple among investors. I will probably hodl on Ripple until the New Year, it just seems like a coin that banks are going to use to cut your wait time for deposit holds down from 10 business days to 5 business days, while Bitcoin and every other cryptocurrency on the market is pretty much instant. That's just my take on the whole matter.

Yeah it is pretty weird. Why don't the Ripple devs provide a wallet? So there is no way to actually hold your own private keys to your XRP?
That is bizarre.

Keeping Ripple is a problem. Ripple was made and it is owned by a private company.
I find it strange but you have to pay 20XRP for the wallet, which brings extra money to the company.
This is the reason why the investors keep them in the exchange's wallet.
If you trust the exchange you use, you can do it too, I don't, because they can be hacked and you can lose your money and your investment.

Worst idea ever  :) at any moment exchange site can go bankrupt, get hacked or a million other things can happen that will affect it and you will instantly lose everything.

Keep at the exchange only what you intend to day trade or short term trade, everything else should in personal private wallet.

I find it strange but you have to pay 20XRP for the wallet,

If there has no been major changes in last 2-3 weeks, you information is incorrect.
You don't have to pay for ripple wallet. It's completely free. However in order to prevent users from creating ten or more wallets for one person, ripple has set a minimum deposit that you need to start using your wallet, which is or was at the time when I was creating (25 ripple). This was reduced from 50 ripple. It was reduced because ripple price increased. In future I believe it will be reduced or removed again when ripple price will be higher.
In short, you don't have to pay for ripple wallet, it is just a little bit more complicate to start using it and then to delete it and get your deposit.

You don't have a wallet there, bittrex has ripple wallet and you can trade the amount you transfer there. But to say that you have ripple wallet there is incorrect. Bittrex can at any moment trade and withdraw your coins as they are the owner of all coins wallets. Plus they can get hacked and so on. Keeping coins on exchange as a place to store your coins is very bad idea. If you trade them then it's a completely different story.  :)

One of the most secure places to store your Ripple and other crypto currencies is hardware wallet. The 2 most popular hardware wallets in the cryptocurrency community are Ledger products including Ledger Blue or Ledger S Nano, and Trezor.
