Title: Did netflix violate privacy to improve geoblocking?
Post by: vite on February 26, 2016, 02:14:00 PM
I have to finally admit defeat. I know I can still play cat and mouse game with netflix to get the US content, but it has become time consuming and annoying. I was wondering how they where able to determine if I was behind a vpn, smart dns or other.
Tried different services and even for testing purposes tried creating a mini vpn server on a VPS. All work for a day or two and then netflix catches on. So I feel netflix might be violating privacy to enforce their geoblocking policies.

Maybe they're collecting lists of known proxies? Probably isn't hard to do and could be easily worked out over time espeically if there's lots of connections from numerous devices all using the same IP etc. Did you use a proxy to check any emails you recieved from them? Not sure why you need netflix anyway. Just download any content you want or get some free streaming device.

Netflix can't win the war against popcorntime. There are not enough titles available and when you search specific they never have your movies you want. Now they waste there time to geoblock there content. Sad they have to come with a good product and people will pay for it.

I wonder whether they're being pressured into it or if they're doing it voluntarily. I assume there are plenty of users who'd probably give up if they couldn't access better countries. I can't be arsed any more to change countries so I'll probably throw it in soon.

Imo it is about the license they bought.
It cost less if they only buy a license for the usa instead the whole world.
