Title: Warning about logging in after clicking on Google bitcointalk link
Post by: no-ice-please on February 26, 2016, 10:22:42 PM
Google sent me to https://fanb   itcoin.com/index.php?topic=645124.40 which seems to accept a username and password for bircointalk. Not sure if it's a scam or what.

It's a mirror site, which copies bitcointalk, there are more of those out there.
Ofc you should never enter your login details at any of those sites (I'd suggest you break that link, just to be on the safe side).

That's why I go directly to Bitcointalk and don't really bother with Google. Really I'd like for everybody to bookmark this site and also any Bitcoin sites they visit most frequently. Like, say, Bitcoin.org (https://bitcoin.org/en/), ShapeShift.io (https://shapeshift.io/) and Gyft (https://www.gyft.com/).

I see some people using it when bitcointalk is banned (in office) and logging in unconsciously.
I really do not understand when you have bitcointalk site available in home or with mobile, why take risk on mirror sites. You never know if they are scam and steal your password. So, please stick to Bitcoin talk.

A few years ago, I spent a lot of time trying to educate surfers and friends about the benefits of direct navigation, but I didn't have much success. Most people seem to just enter an url into Google, even when they want to go to mega sites like Ebay. It's dangerous, and leaves you open to censorship by Google. Google can also try to change your surfing to suit their advertising. It's got to the stage now where I think you have to use Google adwords to keep your surfers.

I just reported that site as a phishing page to Google (https://www.google.com/safebrowsing/report_phish/).

Same question came up last year apparently and theymos said that it's a copycat site (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1181932.msg13144438#msg13144438).

Wow, do you think all these hackings could have been due to these sort of links?  I would think that most seasoned users would know not to enter their passwords but you never know.

I was having trouble finding info on an obscure coin so I typed it into google.

I saw that I was at (what seemed to be) bitcointalk, then noticed I wasn't logged in.

That's how it started...

its a phishing site so most probably your logins will be sent as text to the admin of that site and they might try logging into your account. this is very common on hack forums. if you intend to visit a site, you'd rather type the url on the address bar than clicking a link.

Yeah It is a phishing site they are copy pasted any website they want to copy like this forum to get the user and password...
But we can avoided and prevent our account into risk always make sure you check the link or url link above text box of the browser before you start logging in or use anti virus like kaspersky internet security updated.. So that anti-virus can warn you about the site or block the site if kaspersky detected  that the site has suspicious codes...  I use kaspersky as my anti virus since 2011 and i am always save from fake website and phishing website.
