Title: Bitcoin and Litecoin in 20 years
Post by: oltobit on February 28, 2016, 12:50:17 AM
Bitcoin will become the "gold" of the internet while Litecoin will become the "silver." With Bitcoin trading above $3000.

Sad part, there will be a lot of unclaimed Bitcoin by that time.

Just my thoughts.

i'd say within 2 years BTC completely owned by corporate interests etc, LTC becomes the peoples currency (kinda like gold/silver did in days gone by).

I dunno, $3000 seems a bit too optimistic for right now. There doesn't seem to be enough interest or movement for there to be such a substantial upswing in 20 years time, but you never know, a lot can happen over the span of 20 years.

its obviously sacrilegious here, but litecoin most likely will replace bitcoin, and yes thats probably laughed at mostly now (but i can give many a reason why), wait 2 years and see  ;)

Well I would say, BTCitcoin is already the Gold of the internet (it's just few know about it but surely those aware of it, have it as their top priority). In regards to Litcoin being the silver (I believe some other coin is going to replace this spot in the future but for now, it could be considered as silver of the internet).

why litecoin, which seems doomed and no one care about anymore, not to mention it does not offer anything

when you have ETH and decred that are much stronger and actually are a bit different than bitcoin, or even maidsafe if you want?

that make sense, bitcon as gold on real life, and litecoin as silver, but litecoin have chance to be replaced, some altcoin have good price to take over litecoin, such XMR or CLAM.

theres ton of reasons why ETH and the lastest co, may get flavor of the month with some of this crowd but not longterm mass adoption, KISS is one, trust is another (hell much of this forum have little trust for the motivation of the teams behind them).

lots care about litecoin, it has the trust and if you where to first come across all these latest 'original' or 2.0 or whatevers first, then btc/ltc came later everyone would be saying btc/ltc are a massive improvement on these.

over hyped 'innovation' for innovation sake doesn't make for a long term currency solution.

Bitcoin always being mother of coin, i trully believe that bitcoin's price in 20 years will be grow up, then litecoin i doubt, i think it's price will stable or maybe going down, due to it's adoption, nowdays litecoin's just used for investment purpose, not as a currency like bitcoin's did
just in my humble opinion

i know what you mean "litecoin was the second" but this argument makes sense only with the first, bitcoin, but i may see that there is a huge sentiment, and a huge attachment yet for litecoin, even if the market seems dead

i still believe that if bitcoin will be globally accepted on a very large scale, we will see many other coin succeed and not only litecoin, there will be probably a strong third fourth etc...

My guess is that litecoin will die. The coin has nothing new nor anything to bring in the game.
It's a cheap rip off of bitcoin. No innovation whatsoever.

When it comes to bitcoin, well it will depend if we can make it go mainstream. If that happens, it will be the future.

Litecoin has always been the number two behind Bitcoin and that will not change any time soon unless there is another coin that is taking over Litecoin's place. And no, don't quote me with Ethereum.

Good chance neither will be around. If bitcoin can sort its shit out then it'll continue building and won't be deposed. As for the number two spot, that's a more dangerous and constantly changing position. I don't see what LTC can possibly bring to the table. It's sitting still while thousands of people are trying to come up with something sexier. Two decades of development is gonna turn it into dust.

sorry i have quote you and mention about etherum here. i thought litecoin could be number 3  ;D , etherum rumoured become the next bitcoin , it has a community power enough and good popularity lately.
just the matter of time , not sure but it's happening now.

Bitcoin will be the king, no question about that. But litecoin, why? It offer not much value at all. In 20 years, chances are someone else will invent something else and taking over the second position.
There are many contenders out there already, I am not going over the list since will probably offend someone out there.

Bitcoin will remain in the number one spot for say the next 5 years, but I think something better are going to replace it soon. You will have the BankCoin vs PublicCoin and the governments will favor the BankCoin. People will then be forced to use these <Legal> coins sanctioned and backed by the governments and the <illegal> like Bitcoin and Dash.

LiteCoin and most of the smaller crypto's will fade away, once this happens.

In my opinion, if bitcoin survives for another 20 years, it will worth at least $100,000. Not sure about litecoin.

We need to solve the problem of network bandwidth, stoarge, blocksize etc etc... Still long way to go. Litecoin has not even started on anything like that yet!

I don't think Litecoin, or any scrypt crypto for that matter, will be alive in 20 years... I don't even think they'd be used in half a decade from now. Bitcoin on the other hand, if an agreement for the scaling problem is reached its userbase would be able to expand along with all the use cases.

i think that at that time, litecoin will be dead, because bitcoin will be main alt coin,

and price of bitcoin should be 2300$ atleast, and it will be really, really popular,  i mean every store will accept it, everyone will know it and even use it, even middle age and old people

I think bitcoin is the only coin that will stay for sure. The rest is not so sure.
Bitcoin cannot disappear i think, because all the exchanges changes altcoins for bitcoin. This market is the biggest. Litecoin is popular as well, and makes a good chance to stay as well.
The price, that is something else. If bitcoin is accepted by a lot of governments it can rise fast, otherwise, i really don't know.

Correct litecoin has nothing to bring on to the table. It's a cheap clone of bitcoin. No new things just copy paste with a different ALGO.
In 20 years i think there will be many alts too but only a few will be big.

I agree with both of you here. its all about the community and the devs.
we'll see what happens over the next 12 months, these will be the most crucial as all these new projects will be in full force by then and taking their share of the market cap.

This. Litecoin hasn't made any effort to get merchant adoption or new useful features. The only reason it's still there is because of the Chinese exchanges. It's starting to sink.

Or maybe that is their plan, mine and buy all the cheap ltc, while in the back they are securing partnerships that they will announce at a later point.
Don't forget, the Chinese are behind ltc and they are tricky and sneaky business people.
You cant ever count them out.

Actually, there are many litecoin holders, its just that they are not supporters. They bought into ltc, and are holding but supporting the more popular coins they hold.
I used to hold litecoin and be a supporter but was forced to stop holding it due to lack of development.

That's you, but there are still a lot of holders, mostly Chinese I think.
It's possible they know something we don't.

That would sound logical time ago but now in the case of Litecoin not much.

Maybe they are holding for the long-term.

Bitcoin will become the "gold" of the internet while Litecoin will become the "silver." With Bitcoin trading above $3000.

Sad part, there will be a lot of unclaimed Bitcoin by that time.

Just my thoughts.

Well of course that bitcoin and lite coin will be very popular in future, but i don't think that stores will accept litecoin, they will bitcoin only so it will be more popular, and price yes, might be around 3000$

I don't see any future for litecoin. The coin is just a clone with nothing new when you look to it's features.
Bitcoin however could be the real deal, since it's has many supports; both merchants as users.

i like this comparison and bitcoin is indeed as gold among all the cryptocurrencies.
also litecoin has been keeping up so far with the market cap for a very long time. but sadly i don't see any interesting thing about litecoin, and it seems to me like it is abandoned somehow.

I think its time to start unloading the ltc bags.

Replaced is most likely out of reach, but it will very likely grow a lot in the future when it is being used together with bitcoin for different types of transactions.

If the dev teams manage to figure out a way to make the chains work together (sort of sidechain), there is the added benefit of speed and scalability, together with a highly secure and decentralized network.

In 20 years (very long time..), I see bitcoin around 10-20k each and litecoin easiliy around 200-500 each.

I don't see the reason for Litecoin to exist in the next couple of year. Its only innovation is that it has more coins than Bitcoin. If it stays like that, Litecoin will be soon replaced by more innovative coins that we have plenty around.

Litecoin is considered to be "Silver" and Bitcoin "Gold" by some people. And it makes sense as Litecoin functions as backup coin for Bitcoin. Beside that, if BTC-E delist Litecoin for whatever reason (I don't think it will happen) then 50%-75% of its value will vanish. It depends too much on just a single exchange.

Being dependent on one exchange is one of the worst things you can get. What happens if that exchange goes out of business for whatever reason?
I know that historically Litecoin is the second most important coin. My point however is that the network effect in case of Litecoin is much weaker than in case of Bitcoin, and the only 'innovation' is biggernumber of coins than Bitcoin. That is, in my opinion, too little to guarantee surviving the next 20 years.

I think that half of the currently circulating litecoins are in the hands of Chinese investors and pools.

Do you remember the pump before the litecoin block halving?

That was probably the last big pump for litecoin before it slowly start to lose popularity and value.

if you are looking for pumps only, litecoin is being pumped from time to time but since it is older the space between the pumps are bigger (longer accumulation phase).
i think the only reason why litecoin has stayed alive is because it was the second crypto (major one) that is created after bitcoin and is very similar.

People investing in bitcoin and this is probably very good investment, but many don't consider to invest in LTC which is mistake if you asking me. LTC will surprise us all, call it what you like (final pump, pump before death..) But this is certainly we will see much higher price of LTC then today!

Everything else doesnt show some form of natural demand to buy the coin.

Looking at the price of Ether and how it has been performing people don't seem to care (yet?) about there being so many coins in existence. It's greed that takes over as usual.

it is not unlimited supply that part is wrong but the rest is true and it is good to see other people are finally realizing this fact about ETH.

there are 80 million Ethereum coins created so far and it is still growing. it is just a simple rule of supply and demand and looking at any other altcoin with similar huge supply can give anybody a good idea about the real value of ETH by comparing the two.

Bitcoin will become the "gold" of the internet while Litecoin will become the "silver." With Bitcoin trading above $3000.

Sad part, there will be a lot of unclaimed Bitcoin by that time.

Just my thoughts.
Bitcoin is going to be gold of the online currencies because it is if I am correct the most popular one. With in 20 years I hope that both currencies are valued somewhere in the thousands.

you are absolutely right. bitcoin is the most popular crypto currency so far. it is the most popular in every aspect, the market cap, most investors, most users and more importantly the most number of cases you can use it to purchase stuff.

The lite coin wil go away for sure but the bitcoin will stay in the future. Only because he is growing that big you can now pay allot of things what you want. Don't think to invest in litecoins now becasue that would be stupid.

Okay, so whats surprising is that people look forward to lite coin, when ETH is the new hype right now lol.

I guess we all see ETH not much of a value since its unlimited supply lol.
unlimited supply?? why?

perhaps in the future may be equivalent to bitcoin bitcoin, bitcoin well if prices continue to decline, and litecoin prices continue to rise, it really allows

The litecoin market cap will not be larger than that of the bitcoin. It is just a clone of the bitcoin.

Litecoin had a chance to be independent coin a few years ago. There was a discussion to change it to anonymous coin.

they keep saying that, but I see no reason why litecoin has any place to exist at all.

With gold and silver, there's demand for silver because gold is so expensive that even a gram of gold is really expensive, and a gram of gold is so small that it becomes easy to lose.

For most people, gold is just overly expensive, and they can't afford it, so silver is a good alternative, because even for $100 you can get several 1oz coins, that are easy to carry but hard to lose. And also easy to store.

With bitcoin, it's another matter, because even though 1 full bitcoin is very expensive, it doesnt matter because you can buy 1/100.000.000th of a bitcoin, and no one is that poor that they can't afford a few satoshi.

So why would someone ever want to buy litecoin instead of a fraction of bitcoin?

Litecoin also doesn't offer any advantage over bitcoin at all.

unlimited supply?? why?

ETH is very unclear about how they plan the supply of new coins, and they don't seem to ever have a stop to new coin production, so there will always be new coins produced.

Unlike bitcoin, which is very clear about the distribution method and when it ends.

I would like to know as well how there can be an unlimited supply of ether.
Always thought it would be very much like bitcoin, based on a blockchain and the hype at the moment is a simple pump effect by some people in the background.

i'd say within 2 years BTC completely owned by corporate interests etc, LTC becomes the peoples currency (kinda like gold/silver did in days gone by).

or they may even both be worthless because of what they say the better coin, ETH. ETH has been around for years and gradually being accepted by merchants.
I personally like them smart contracts  ;D

20 years is a long time, I wonder how will evolve BTC and LTC, I mean electronic equipment like miners or computers running nodes may become obsolete, this represents a strong investment being renovating these,
In the other hand, That may not be a drawback if the price soars in the same proportion. So someone supporting the network BTC think should renew their equipment 3 times during that period at least, Or this finally came to be centralized in any way.

20 years is not a long time at all. The bitcoin is already 7 years old. So 20 years is not 3 times of bitcoin age.

It is really hard to predict the future of both Bitcoin and Litecoin because there can happen way to much in the mean time. I think that Bitcoin would be even more popular then it already is but I cannot speak on Litecoin.

If you think that because of bitcoin is more popular, so  Bitcoin is a in number one and i don't know what is the number of Litecoin, because now and after 20 years, i like only bitcoins, so we think that Bitcoin is a gold, and litecoin is a sliver, so it is right.

The litecoin will not be a sliver. If the bitcoin is the gold, 0.1 bitcoin is the silver. That is because the bitcoin is divisable.
