The concept of making anonymous online transactions is in the spotlight because of the prominence of the digital currency Bitcoin, but most consumers remain uneasy with the cryptocurrency's instability and risk. An alternative for the privacy-minded might sprout from Tor, or The Onion Router.

...
In payments, Tor could enable consumers to make purchases online with bank-issued cards or with systems such as PayPal, while also hiding their location. Consumers might do this to avoid price discrimination, but they would not be completely anonymous.
...
So what's holding Tor back? For one, it shares many of the stigmas Bitcoin does. Just as Bitcoin has earned a reputation as a tool of drug dealers and other illegal activities, Tor is used to conceal illegal online activity.

PayPal over TOR as an alternative to Bitcoin indicates desperation on the part of whoever wrote this article.

Wow.  That "press" article wins the award for "stupid of the day".

Who knew buying something with your bank card or PayPal account (which has been opened with name, address, social security number, and possibly credit check, etc) is instantly private as long as you use TOR.

Someone should let the SR know.  BANK WIRES, CC, ACH, hell Direct Deposit from your employer + TOR = insta privacy shield.   I am sure the DEA is going to be pissed this reporter let the best kept secret out of the bag.

I wish it to be known I have read that article over TOR, so therefore it was much better when I read it then when all you other lowbies read it because you don't have as high level a TOR as I do.

Moral of the sTORy: TOR makes everything better. Except Bitcoin.

Indeed it's hard not to interpret such non-sense as a desperate attempt to dissuade people from using bitcoin.

Not true. Bitcoin through Tor is definitely better.

Actually the authors have a point. Read up on the Farmers Market and how the operators were eventually found by law enforcement.

My sarcasm ;/

Are you aware the douches are floating this theory whereby paypal + tor is "better than bitcoin", as if the comparison isn't bitcoin + x  > paypal + x, for any values of x, simply because bitcoin > paypal.
