From where you got your statistics exactly ? how do you know that most of BTC users are russians ? I guess they are less now since using BTC became illegal or whatever in russia .

I don't think so. I think the most of bitcoins users are China, USA and India, CMIIW. Well, i rarely heard most of russians are scammers on this forum. for HYIP yes, but for bitcoins i never heard.

because most of russian are anomalous started  from poorest man in russian to there president. there main thought is to hurt someone and make bad things, not only here, in every business, in every jobs they are making, they only thinking only in one thing, to hurt someone.

The title is really misleading. The word "most", to me, means >50%. I guess Chinese, at most, make up of 25% of bitcoiner population. Most users are in the US and Europe. Only a small percentage in Russia.

Not all Russians are scammers although there are a lot of ponzi sites that are based on Russia. I have few Russian friends and they've been really helpful and opposite of scammers to me, ever since I knew them so it wouldn't be fair to label all of them as scammers if you had a bad experience with certain Russian guy. And also there was a statistics image in which showed most usage base on countries and I'm sure Russia was not among most users (can't find the image).

I don't know where you got this Info. but according to me the users seems well scattered. mostly I see people from US, India and EU and some of course Russians.
As far as Russian being scamers, nah u don't think I haven't seen any Russian to scam, but then scammer don't have a country  :-\

maybe because there were and still there is huge restriction for bitcoin there, so to acquire them they end scamming people, or because there are numerous hacker there, many good programmers are russian, and they are inclined to follow the scamming route than the others

There are a lot of organized crime groups in Russia that do a lot of scams but we also have them here in the U.S., the most noteworthy criminal organization we have is referred to as the NSA.

I think not every user is a russian, user of bitcoin is spread all around the world. and about scam... i dont know, maybe it was just ur supposition. anyone can do scam, so dont judge the race but the person.  ;D

Your statement that Russia have the most online scammers piqued my interest so I decided to do a Google search and apparently countries like Malaysia, South Africa, Romania, Indonesia, Venezuela, Brazil are much higher on the lift of Internet fraudsters. the usage is really important, I think that in the countries where the governments decide to ban Bitcoin, are the countries that get the most usage, like on China where its not really legal but they have a big interest as you can see by the mining industry. i think the more gov bans or limits Bitcoin the more interest people will have.

It's nothing out of the ordinary, as the bitcoin community is really diverse. You should be bothered though if one day you receive an e-mail from a Nigerian prince that wants to give his bitcoins to you - this one is a well known scam.

From what I have observed, the Russians are really good in web designing and coding. That is why there are so many online BTC ventures out there, owned and operated by the Russians. For example, many of the gambling sites are owned by either Russians or Ukrainians (Primedice is an example). A few of them are con-men, but such people are there in every ethnic group.

I think most bitcoin users are not the people of Russia, very many bitcoin users from other countries are countless and I think China still has the largest bitcoin users besides russian  :)

I don't know how true the OP's claim is. If it is true though then it's probably because Putin & their government closely monitor where they spend their money & with bitcoin it's a lot more difficult to be monitored.

It's not true because it's impossible to draw a real demographics on who is using Bitcoin since it's pseudoanonymous (and it can be "fully anonymous" if you take enough effort into it). The only data that can be researched is who is buying in a certain country, and only from LocalBitcoin's since the data on exchanges is private.

Russia I dont think so, I guess US has the most bitcoin users than russia or even China. China just looks like theres a lot of bitcoiners there because of the miners and known for many whales out there.

besides there is no sure way to tell which country has the more bitcoin users, because there is no way of tracking who sends bitcoin from which IP for example using services like online wallets, TOR, and broadcasting TX through some online service (other nodes) make it impossible to know it.

Should always backup anything that could come off as prejudice with firm facts. Smearing a whole Country is never a good way to encourage a open discussion.

what you are telling is right but i think OP is really wrong because in russia bitcoin is illegal and in US and Europe Bitcoin is accepted and their are ATM of bitcoins, trading shops and coffee shops are their but no one heard about anything in russia. OP have to clear his message how he concluded that Russian are most in bitcoin and they are mostly scammers.

It is not that there are so much russians. Thing is (I think) that when you use say, a russian faucet or HYIP or "cloud mining", you see the russians characters and immediately think there are lots of them.

There are also quite a lot of hispanic-latino people, chinese...etc, but as they write with same characters as english people, one tends not to notice.

Russia's FIAT is extremely unstable. I wouldn't be surprised if there were more "serious" users because of this, but I still think the majority of people are in the US and China.

Do you have a basis of what you are saying? If you have been scammed or have a bad experience with a Russian that doesn't mean all of them or most of them are scammer's.

I don't know if your statement is backed with real data, but most of the ponzi mine cloud scams are deeply Russian based. Just my 2 cents here.

This was a year ago and so many things have already change during the course I'm sure Asia will have a big game China loves crypto currencies and some of the top mining pool and companies are here..

I think most BTC users currently would be from US but let's not think like that, we don't need to divide bitcoin users in nationalities, Bitcoin is above race or gender, we're all just bitcoiners, where we're from doesn't makes any difference.

Could you please name a few "Russian based ponzi mining scams"? I think it is better if you run honest and long term business project than conduct a short lived scam stunt.
Everyone knows that, Russians are not exception here. I also don't think Russians are the nation where Bitcoin is so hugely popular, but it is hard to really measure true popularity of cryptocurrencies.

you're right, very many bitcoin users, even I think that most of the china, because there are so many unemployed, making them look for bitcoin and become the largest population that uses bitcoin. but if there is a reason you're saying most of the BTC users russians are probably right...

It's just not possible to know how many people are involved in Bitcoin by country, you could only estimate by judging on registered accounts on exchanges and centralized payment sites like Coinbase and whatnot, so you can't say russians love to scam because you can't extrapolate the data from those variables.

Spammers can be anywhere. When something is popular, people tends to misuse or scam it also. Same is the case with bitcoins and it the the  greatest revolution in the finical economy.

India? I think USA and Europe have the most numbers of bitcoin users.I dont see many Indian here on forum also which clearly indicates that indians are lagging behind with even Chinese and indonesians

because Russia is a half communist country and people like the freedom.

China may have most number of miners or mining farms but as far as number of bitcoin users are concerned,US has most.You can check the trade volume for US based exchanges to verify this assertion

The exchange volume trade is  huge doesn't mean lots of people use bitcoin. Acctually very very few people use bitcoin as no where can use bitcoin in China.

Because the majority of them was in Russian language in the beginning and also when scamming (Hashprofit), thats the only data I have so far, but the scam trap is always the same, databases in Siberia, mining with lots of GPU altcoins and a lot of bsh like that. Someone from Russia IP had logged in to my btc-e account, when I was using Windows and my account was not 2fa. After this, I fired up my Linux PC changed the password there and added 2FA, since then no signs of other loggins. So yeah I agree too,most hackers are Russian and don't forget ponzis like Hashprofit.

There is strong tie with Russian, but it is fair to say there is no direct prove that Russian did it.

I don't think that the percentage and amount of russian bitcoin users is way out of proportionate to that extent, They are a big economy and has a big interest in online trading etc... but they are still a normal % when compared to US bitcoin users for example.

I don't think it's fair to put all people from Russia under the common denominator of being online thieves and scammers just because there are some bad apples among them. If you are having problems with the security of your accounts then take the necessary measures to keep them safe.

I think that many russians use bitcoin because their national currency ruble is unstable and cheap. Earlier it was popular to use dollars instead of ruble. Russians want to be more independent from their weak currency.

Having said that, I would not be surprised in the least if Russia is at least near the top of the list of big bitcoin users.  Not sure how stable their currency really is, and I'm sure bitcoin is an excellent alternative.  USD sure ain't.

I don't think that's true. If you check out demographics you'll see Chinese exchanges have more value and volume, Chinese and American people are more than Russians. You should also consider the population of China and Russia is way more diffferent.

Russia is the biggest country but not the most people in the world of a country. I think China would beat Russia for the number of btc users in one demographic region.

Well we should collect just some information about the faucets admins i believe those russians really active at several faucets,and maybe being the most actives at faucets,the reason is unknow.

I think anyone saying anything on the main race that occupies BTC is just based on total speculation and absolutely no proof. If they're going to make big claims like that, info is needed. BTC is totally pseudo-anonymous, meaning it's identity anonymous, gender anonymous, age anonymous, location anonymous, (and yes), race anonymous....

Most users looks to be Chinese. Now Russian might be entering into bitcoin as they are going down in economy due to several internal politics.

Russia's legislative assembly has banned bitcoin domestically..  even though it is banned people are using btc and i dont think that most of the btc users are Russians..

From my experience, the most Bitcoin users are not Russian. Most come from the States and Europe.
Of cource, there are some Russian and some has good influence in well-known projects like Ethereum, Emercoin, Nxt and IOTA for instance, but they do not form a majority in crypto coin universe.

No, in India the bitcoin users are not much that relative to US and China, in india it still need some time to establish , currently there is a large community of India which is unaware of it.

India has over 1 billion population with 74.04% literacy rate only 42% are internet users.It is difficult to state any accurate statistics regarding bitcoin users but my guesstimate is that only half a million people use or are aware of bitcoin.China certainly is far ahead

You are true they may use the VPN/Proxy of Russia and maybe of some other country, as all the hackers try to use VPN/Proxy of other country, so if they were of Russia they may use VPN of other country.

Yeah they are adopting bitcoin on the same proportion as the people from other major powers, we can notice an equal amount of people from Russia, USA and China etc. So that is not fact that Russsians are more at bitcoin.

Yeah, it is easy to bypass internet restrictions now thru vpn. And I don't think they can target all bitcoiners. They may be just focusing on people with very large bitcoins in their wallet.

No. The largest number of users are from the United States, followed by Russia. China, at the most may be at no.3. The Chinese exchanges usually inflate their usage stats, and it gives an impression that there are large number of Bitcoiners there. Loot at the major exchanges (including LBC). The US tops in terms of trade volumes.

No the russians are everywhere even at faucets they are heavy presence at there as well ,last time i had a faucet 40% were costumers russians.

I think you enter into the sphere of people who cheat the hobby so you immediately give a bad label on all Russian users, but not all Russian users who play Bitcoin commit fraud. And why most Russian user..?? because I think the Russians preferred the retention money transactions and an easy and transparent.

An important factor to remember here is that most of the ex-Soviet nationals are termed as "Russians" by those living outside Eurasia. Many of these "Russians" are actually citizens of Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Latvia, Estonia, Moldovia.etc. They use the Russian language forums and communities, so the outsiders consider them as Russians.

The only way they're ever gonna find out is if they actually talk to the people behind these accounts and find out where they're from. Unfortunately, I don't really think anyone's foolish enough to give up where they come from, who they are, etc. To be honest, what I wanna know is why it even matters

I was actually having that in my mind, but people always talked that Chinese are the reason why BTC is here, which is why I thought that the numbers are right and Chinese are running BTC because they hold a major % of BTC with them...

Thats kinda racist. There are heaps of different nationalities that use bitcoin, etc Chinese, American, Australia. I remember a bar in Australia that accepts Bitcoin cards.

I think this is not about the racist issue. But all i can see when in wandering around in fb groups. And i see many nationalities using bitcoin. Because i think global people aware now for the benifits and anonimosity of  the bitcoin. I have many different nationalities bitcoin enthusiast friends and i see them using bitcoin for daily living and for fast transaction on what bitcoin offers to them.

Your thread title caught my attention.  I've never heard the statistic that russians are the majority of bitcoin users.  I've always assumed that it was probably Americans that are the majority.  Also, how would you know that most "scammers" are russian?  It sounds like a made up accusation to me.

I've never heard this before. This is my first time to hear that Russians use bitcoin more and that they are scammers. Personally I am not from Russia, neither are my closest friends who use bitcoin. I might be knowing one or two Russians who use bitcoin but I never never regarded them the way this thread insinuates. Being scammed by one Russian does not mean all Russians are scammers. In this digital era, it might be probable that you were scammed by an impostor using a Russian name, yet he might be even from China, Romania, USA or even Nigeria.

It's really hard to actually know the statistics of bitcoin users since some of the users are probably using VPN or TOR network to hide their real identity, in fact I think those Russian users that OP talks about is probably some guy living somewhere completely different and using VPN to mask theirs :P

Second it is more than proven that most of the transactions are happening in China... so it is possible to correctly say that the majority of bitcoin traders and users are Chinese

I dont think all russian are scammers. Maybe they adopt the way that russia easily gave online business permit. And foreign scammers grab oppurtunity to post their certificate as proof so it can be deceiving to invvestors i think russia must fix their system about it.

threads and replies can be made by all, but investigations suggest that most of the bitcoin users are from United States. Also it is false that Russians are scammers, scammers can be seen from all sectors and we can't predict accurately.

Russia is a big country and its citizens have a large number of occupations, and there are the same proportion of good and bad people in every community , so in that the Russains are obvious, just like the Chinese are obvious in physical trade.

Another reason is paranoid the government's desire to control everything and everyone. In Russia there is a religious and political inquisition, that is a negative comment towards lawlessness authorities, or repost, or like in social networks, can condemn and imprison or condemn arbitrary, and because of this block the bank account or bank card thereby depriving the people's livelihood. I think most of the bitcoin users are Americans. It is much more used and discussed there. There are also a lot more exchanges that are based in the U.S. Also, there are lots of Americans in different parts of the world.

Anyways back on topic in reply to the OP, I don't at all think that most of the BTC scammers out there are Russian or a single national identity for that matter. Remember that Bitcoin was made with anonymity in mind and for me I think that it would be hard to pinpoint the identities of anonymous scammers.

I think it's to be agreed upon that there are lots of Russian HYIPs out there but what do we call the HYIPs which are "non-russian", not so easy to classify right without giving bias? Russia has a very distinct knowledge that makes it stand apart from all the "English" HYIPs, this might very well be the reason why they stick out more.

Its very big and risky assumptions. First of all, russians are poor in general. That is causing the need for easy money and there is only couple steps from here to scam.
On the other hand, BTC-E, russian exchange, shady and stuff, doing really good in recent years. You never know with russians, they are special :)

Just because you might have seen some Russians in a chat or a website, you thought that most users are Russia-based?

I would assume this is because the Russian currency isn't that strong and Russians want an alternative, a majority of other alternatives currently block Russian users while Bitcoin does not.

Unfortunately a lot of online scams originate from Russians hence why most other alternative money solutions have decided to block them.

There are no studies or statistic proving that russians are the number 1 btc users in population. It maybe a speculation or just an opinion. I hope you could provide with us the link of your source so we can check you claim. But anyway your post is a good topic to mingle with. I am from Russia and I can say with confidence that the majority of Russian are not the majority of Bitcoin users. In Russia, not many people know about the existence cryptocurrency, I would even say very, very few people know about them. Here such a mentality, everyone loves an old and tested, and are afraid of the new and unknown. Seniors prefer to bring them pension postman, instead of using cards.

However, if Russian and use Bitcoin, then as additional income, because the country's economy in the ass, impoverished population, and the government gets richer.

I think the OP has started this topic because the Russians are more obvious in the usage of bitcoin than any other country, and more of the online casinos using bitcoin are also from Russia, so it feels like the Russians are more than any other.

Such a graph is meaningless without comparison to the trading volumes of other countries' fiats (and I do believe overall volume has actually gone up) or as a proportion of total BTC/fiat exchange volume over a fixed time period, and so it provides no argument.

Even then, it would only demonstrate volume in Rubles was higher; what we seek to ascertain is whether or not users are over-represented in one particular place, and trading bitcoin back and forth from fiat does not necessarily provide this information. Certain currencies (the CNY, for example) are over-represented in exchange volumes due to administrative massaging, anyway, so this is not gospel.

I don't know but in my experience a lot of russian uses Bitcoin, I was shocked on how many Russian people visit ads, for example if you advert an ad in MellowAds, the statistics during the campaign will show you that more than 45% of the visitors are of Russian origin.  :o

yes it is a fact. when we are registering an account in bitcoin forum its need no nationality. therefore from where can a person prove it that most of the bitcoin users are from Russia or from China. i think it cannot be proof. i personally know so many people most of them are from India China and Saudi Arabia. they are my friends i know not a single person who is from Russia. so i will like to say that it cannot be proof that from where a particular person is belonging to.

A large number of freelancers who accept payments in Bitcoin are from Russia and the other former Soviet Union republics. What more, a majority of the sig campaigns here in Bitcointalk are being run by either Russians or Ukrainians.

Well the reason behind it is that russians typically have a way way lower wage than us (europe/usa) and the bitcoin currency seems to be attractive to them

I also think Chinese has the larger user base of bitcoins. Most of them are investors and businessman and they are currently responsible for excessive buying the bitcoins.
