A young Egyptian studying in California was reportedly found in custody of the FBI after disappearing without a trace for several days.

Emad El-Din Ali Mohamed Nasr El Sayed (Emad El Sayed) disappeared on the morning of 12 February 2016 without anyone knowing why.

According to his family members, El Sayed had been studying at the Universal Air Academy (UAA) located in Los Angeles since September 2015. The young student’s disappearance sparked a social media campaign with the hashtag ‪#‎Find_EmadElSayed‬.
 
For more than a week, family members and friends were left perplexed and worried about the 23-year-old. However, it was soon revealed by some family members that El Sayed was apprehended by the FBI “for sharing a post” against U.S. Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump.

“My brother Emad El Sayed who has been missing since Friday, 12th of February…was apprehended by FBI, for sharing a post that was against the U.S candidate Donald Trump, as ridiculous as it may sound, yes it is in fact the reason why he was put under arrest,” wrote El Sayed’s sister on Facebook.

However, a source in Egypt’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that El Sayed was arrested for posting what authorities believed was a death threat. According to this source, the USA’s ‘paranoia’ with terrorism and the fact El Sayed was studying aviation contributed to why he was arrested.

Meanwhile, according to his sister Ohoud Ali, Emad was denied of all of his rights to a lawyer during his detention, explaining why no one had heard of his whereabouts for days at a time.

“Emad was denied all of his rights to an attorney or a lawyer who would defend him and guarantee his rights for a proper prosecution then went into an undisclosed location with no way to reach out for the world,” wrote Ohoud on Facebook.

“And suppos[edly] [the] USA is the land of the free.”

Ohoud, who has also criticized Egypt’s Consulate in Los Angeles for not taking sufficient action, revealed on Tuesday that the FBI decided to drop charges related to the Facebook post, but that there is now a case to cancel his visa.

Nevertheless, an Egyptian foreign ministry source said the government is providing all potential support to secure El Sayed’s release and to allow him to remain in the United States to finish his studies after his release.

In statements to Egyptian Streets, Ohoud said that there will be a court hearing on 1 March 2016. According to Ohoud, the charges remain unclear.

“We dont know what are the charges…they investigated him because the post on Facebook, then they canceled his visa, then they detained him for NOT having a visa,” explained Ohoud, adding that El Sayed is being held in Orange County.

El Sayed’s family and friends have also been unable to directly contact El Sayed, with all contact occurring through his lawyer.

“We are just waiting,” said Ohoud to Egyptian Streets.

Freedom of Speech does not mean that you're allowed to post death threats to anyone, let alone to someone who is running for president.

And when someone is picked up on terrorist suspicions, it becomes a matter of national security and so called "rights to have an attorney, right to call" etc. are denied.

So was the facebook post threatening or did he just disagree with Trump's policies?  We seem to keep losing freedoms every day.

He was arrested for making a death threat through FaceBook, and not for simply mocking Trump or disagreeing with his views. Even if he was making a death threat against Hitlery Clinton or Barack Hussein Osama, the same would have happened to him (albeit faster). And making a death threat can't be justified by saying that it is freedom of speech. It is a crime, to put it simply.

Yeah, you can call me a cunt all you like and we can argue, if you sent me a death threat or so on I wouldn't necessarily call the police because some stuff is obviously a joke or just mocking to anyone with a brain, but I would be exceptionally wary of you and if you tried something else I'd start taking action if it was all genuine, most people know better though.

I don't understand why it's so difficult for people to understand that, you don't get to complain if people fight back against you using physical violence or at least planning to do it in a free society, idiots, I can understand being concerned though if he really did just look up aviation and the government overreacted.

The fine distinction which you draw is reasonable.  So are the exceptions to free speech, such as the "shouting fire in a crowded theater."

I'm not somebody who believes that shouting 'fire' in a theater should mean getting arrested for it, because the thing is like with most of this stuff, you can look and see whether there is actually a fire and not have to resort to calling the police over it. This is why I say if I were to receive a death threat, I would investigate it myself, if I notice weird activities pointed towards my I.P address, like I suspect any of you lot would as well, then I would retaliate.

People say stupid shit all the time, they shouldn't get arrested for it, it's only when there's a credible threat should anything be done about it, the classic I remember is this poor guy who got arrested in the UK for saying that he'd like to see an airport bombed because his flight was delayed or something, obvious joke but some retard decided not to do some investigation first and immediately got the police involved which I believe landed the guy who made that post in trouble, I don't consider that something that should get you jailed, but that's where we're heading now if we're not careful.

I'd need to see exactly what was said in order to make a full judgment.  But let's be honest here, if anyone truly wanted someone else dead, they'd not draw attention to themselves; this sounds more like a strongly expressed opinion than an actual plot to kill Donald Trump.  Given the state's track record with overreacting to Facebook posts--IIRC one kid got jailed just for rap lyrics: http://www.wired.com/2013/06/teen-jailed-for-terror-rap/ --it's highly probable that it's doing the same thing here again.

Personally, I'd just stay off Facebook and communicate more privately.
